I've read so much about extended warranties on this forum.

Are the Plasmas and LCD sets not as reliable as the old stand. def. CRT's ??
I have to old CRT hitachi's that are still going strong. The 27" is 19 years and the 31" is 18 years old and neither has ever had a failure. I even dropped the 27" during a move and it fired right up when I plugged it in.

I vowed I would not buy a Plasma until one of the Hitachi's died. But realizied they would probably out live me. I'll soon be taking delivery of a Pioneer 5080. Should I not expect similar reliabilty as my two work horse Hitachi's ??

The only stats I know of were done by Consumer Reports, and if I recall correctly...plasma and lcd both had about a 3% failure rate which was on par with crt's and better than rear projection. I don't know where they got their data or what criteria was used...but regardless it is better than message board speculation.;)
