recently acquired an old Sony TA-AV571 Pro-Logic Surround setup and am having a small problem with audio quality.

it seems like the front Left and Right speakers are not handling the signal correctly. when a steady tone is played, the volume and quality of the sound seems to shift back and forth at random times, making certain parts of the audio randomly "jump out" of one side of the room. the other speakers seem to be functioning properly, even after rotating them around.

does this sound like a wiring issue? going to hook up some other temp. speakers and try a few other things as well.

What you are hearing is probably channel separation (or lack there of) problem. This is typical of Dolby prologic decoders because of how prologic works. If you are planing a non-prologic encoded source, make sure you turn off the prologic surround mode. Playing standard stereo content with prologic on can cause the affect you are describing. Do you have a center channel or are you using the "phantom" mode? Either way, make sure you turn prologic off unless it's a prologic source.

ahh...i thought it may have something to do with that.

yeah i have a center channel and a phantom mode option...i'll adjust the setting when i'm not listening to Dolby encoded things

thanks a ton...you saved me a day of frustration!
