Is there any difference between the European (Region B) release of Sunshine and the US (Region A) release regarding the video encode? An answer to this question would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

View Full Version : sunshine pal vs us? nithr 02-13-08, 01:51 AM Is there any difference between the European (Region B) release of Sunshine and the US (Region A) release regarding the video encode? An answer to this question would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. cybersoga 02-13-08, 02:51 AM There is no PAL version, both are 1080p24. Fox set the region code for the US version region code A and the European version region code B, so you can't compare them on the same player. nithr 02-13-08, 05:25 AM ehh the version released in pal regions was released well before the us version came out and is missing a lot of the features of the us version so i was wondering if the transfer is different as well 1080p24 is not everything if you didnt know... Paul Cordingley 02-13-08, 06:07 AM 1080p24 is not everything if you didnt know... Why do you insist on using the term PAL? This is HD not SD. And yes, 1080p24 IS everything. CKNA 02-13-08, 11:33 AM is there any difference between the pal version and us version of sunshine in terms of picture quality? There is no PAL or NTSC in HD!!!! HD is HD!!!! CKNA 02-13-08, 11:36 AM ehh the version released in pal regions was released well before the us version came out and is missing a lot of the features of the us version so i was wondering if the transfer is different as well 1080p24 is not everything if you didnt know... All Blu-ray and HD DVD film releases are 24Hz. There is no 25Hz. Thank god for that as we do not have to suffer from 50Hz sound speed up anymore. As a matter of fact there is no 50Hz releases on either HD format anywhere in the world. Only 24Hz for film and 60hz for video. GamerGuyX 02-13-08, 11:42 AM PAL and NTSC only pertain to standard definition. EDIT: Oops. CKNA beat me to it. nithr 02-13-08, 12:41 PM I AM TALKING ABOUT THE TRANSFAR NOT THE RES OR HZ SUPPORTED two movies can be 1080p24 but one can be a ****** low bitrate mpeg2 codec and the other tier 0 avc... is this really that hard to understand or are you people just trying to be funny? qz3fwd 02-13-08, 12:45 PM Yeah, But you used a technical term PAL, which implies a different resolution and frame rate, when apparently in fact were asking about codec/bitrate differences. The 2 are toatlly different. BTW-Both PAL and NTSC both use MPEG2 encodings. The people on this forum cannot read your mind you know? nithr 02-13-08, 01:09 PM Yeah, But you used a technical term PAL, which implies a different resolution and frame rate, when apparently in fact were asking about codec/bitrate differences. The 2 are toatlly different. BTW-Both PAL and NTSC both use MPEG2 encodings. The people on this forum cannot read your mind you know? i said in terms of picture quality every blu-ray is 1080p so that's a given anyway 24hz does nothing for picture quality it's just look better in motion according to some yes i said pal but i also said us and not ntsc so then maybe you could've put 2 and 2 together also pal is still a region for hd games so it's just not a res thing kthxbye GamerGuyX 02-13-08, 02:01 PM For a guy that wants help you sure are being an assh*le. nithr 02-13-08, 02:26 PM well when people cant answer a simple question one can become a bit irritated Donnie Eldridge 02-13-08, 02:38 PM No need to get upset. Your original question is poorly worded. CKNA 02-13-08, 02:54 PM i said in terms of picture quality every blu-ray is 1080p so that's a given anyway 24hz does nothing for picture quality it's just look better in motion according to some yes i said pal but i also said us and not ntsc so then maybe you could've put 2 and 2 together also pal is still a region for hd games so it's just not a res thing kthxbye You should ask if there is difference between US version and Euro or whatever version it is. Also not every Blu-ray is 1080p/24Hz. There are 1080i60Hz Blu-rays of concerts or sporting events. Again there is no PAL in HD. For games it is just region locked but they are released at the same frame rate everywhere. Regions also apply to Blu-ray movies. US and Japan are region A, Europe is region B. Since I do not own this film, I can't give you an answer of the difference between different releases. Bleddyn H Williams 02-13-08, 03:03 PM Agreeing with Donnie. People were trying to help you. If you had written "Is there any difference between the US & UK editions of Sunshine as regards picture quality?" this thread would have been much more to the point. GamerGuyX 02-13-08, 03:11 PM well when people cant answer a simple question one can become a bit irritated If its such a simple question then why did you create a thread about it seeking help? nithr 02-13-08, 04:01 PM If its such a simple question then why did you create a thread about it seeking help? it's a simple question but a question non the less and im looking for the answer if i knew the answer i wouldnt ask the question no matter how simple it is ok let's try again Is there any difference between the European (Region B) release of Sunshine and the US (Region A) release regarding the video encode? An answer to this question would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. poodfoison 02-13-08, 04:20 PM ok let's try again Is there any difference between the European (Region B) release of Sunshine and the US (Region A) release regarding the video encode? An answer to this question would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Yeah, the European version is PAL and the U.S. version is NTSC. poodfoison 02-13-08, 04:21 PM :) raoul_duke 02-13-08, 06:54 PM rotfl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CKNA 02-13-08, 08:29 PM Yeah, the European version is PAL and the U.S. version is NTSC. I give up!!! Ron Jones 02-13-08, 08:41 PM I give up!!! I think you have a very valid question, but it appears no one on this forum has directly compared the European and North American releases and even though they have no useful information to contribute on the subject they never the less feel compelled to post something. House 02-13-08, 08:49 PM AAs a matter of fact there is no 50Hz releases on either HD format anywhere in the world. Only 24Hz for film and 60hz for video. A few releases from EiV in the UK have been 1080i/50. Also, to the OP's original question; they are identical encodes (1080p AVC). nithr 02-13-08, 10:38 PM euro version ordered. if it ends up being crap i will blame everyone who didnt answer my question  ;) Edit: thanks house!
