View Full Version : Which March Releases Will You Buy? robertc88 02-13-08, 09:42 AM I can easily see myself buying quite a few of these slated upcoming titles, especially on March 11th. What are you planning on buying? Thanks in advance! TwinTurboJosh 02-13-08, 10:10 AM Appleseed Ex Machina, No Country for Old Men, & Gattaca without a doubt Hitman, ID4, and I Am Legend are maybes. bigmyke23 02-13-08, 10:25 AM Hitman, No Country For Old Men, I Am Legend, and will probably re-buy I, Robot. Big J 02-13-08, 10:29 AM Bonnie and Clyde, that's about it. J Jiffylush 02-13-08, 10:39 AM Ice Age for sure, but that is the only firm plan I have. Hoping to get it on sale too. mumbles3k 02-13-08, 10:45 AM Dogma, Independence Day, and Digital Video Essentials. JaylisJayP 02-13-08, 11:01 AM heh, lots. General Kenobi 02-13-08, 11:04 AM No Country and I-Robot Schils 02-13-08, 11:04 AM I'm glad I jumped into Blu during a slow period, makes it easier to play catch up with the currently avail titles I want, which sadly is not many, always felt the BR lineup was weak, at least as far as balance + higher QUALITY movies (I'm not a 20 year old gamer), thankfully Universal and Paramount are on board with Blu now, hopefully things will get better for my taste in releases. So March will be the perfect time to scratch the itch for some new discs by cathing up while waiting, because honestly, the start of the year looks like a bust for new releases, horrendous offering imo so far, only see 2 releases for me in March (Bonnie and Clyde, Ice Age - need another GOOD animated flick already besides Rat), though with the coming Predator and Master And Commander, spring is gonna make up for the slow start! townofturley 02-13-08, 11:04 AM Haven't looked at the releases yet. But I'll only get movies that really interest me and that I'll enjoy repeat viewings. William Mapstone 02-13-08, 11:25 AM I am Legend and Independance Day. Appleseed Ex Machina (may be a purchase, chances are not available for rent) InfernoSoul 02-13-08, 12:34 PM I'm looking at picking up "I am Legend", maybe not the day it's released but sometime within march. I might pick up DVE, however that really depends. I'm going to see what everyone's thoughts are on it first. Jiffylush 02-13-08, 12:41 PM Doh, forgot about Enchanted, that is a must buy, on sale or not. Family saw it in the theater and fell in love. rsra13 02-13-08, 12:46 PM Dogma, just because I'm a Kevin Smith completist. dpags 02-13-08, 01:03 PM I Am Legend Hitman Gattaca No Country For Old Men thewretched22 02-13-08, 02:03 PM I Am Legend No Country for Old Men Rieper 02-13-08, 02:09 PM Here's what I'm getting in March: Ice Age (Fox) Appleseed Ex Machina (Warner) Dogma (Sony) Gattaca (Sony) Hitman (Fox) I, Robot (Fox) Independence Day (Fox) No Country for Old Men (Walt Disney) I Am Legend (Warner) Bonnie & Clyde (Warner) Digital Video Essentials: HD Basics (DVD International) Steep (Sony) In April: Coyote Ugly (Walt Disney) Unbreakable (Walt Disney) The 6th Day (Sony) IMAX: Dolphins (Image) IMAX: The Living Sea (Image) Alien vs. Predator: Requiem (Fox) Commando (Fox) Predator (Fox) National Geographic: Six Degrees Could Change the World (National Geographic) The Golden Compass (New Line) Volitar Prime 02-13-08, 02:11 PM I'm interested in a lot of the Fox releases but Fox's track record lately has me concerned that I'll have to wait weeks until the necessary firmware updates get rolled out for the various players before we can watch them. robertc88 02-13-08, 03:04 PM No love for "August Rush"?? Elbie 02-13-08, 03:11 PM I'm buying Ice Age and Dogma. Gonna rent Hitman and see if I likey. rsigley 02-13-08, 03:17 PM already ordered: dan in real life hitman no country waiting on WHV to put up I Am Legend will pick up when price drops or BOGO: dogma, independence day april: already ordered: 10.5 apocalypse beer league category 7 curse of king tut's tomb walk hard avp: requiem waiting on price drops for commando, unbreakable, 6th day, and predator vpn75 02-13-08, 04:09 PM Definitely: I, Robot Gattaca I am Legend Independence Day Possible: Ice Age - I'm sure this will look great, but I wasn't a huge fan of this one or the sequel. Plus FOX's pricing of catalog titles is ridiculous! Dogma - Love the movie, but not sure it is worth the upgrade to HD. I'll wait for the PQ reviews before deciding. SheepFactory 02-13-08, 04:15 PM Crap I'll be broke by the end of march it seems :( ShagMan 02-13-08, 04:29 PM This is what I have lined up for March: Appleseed Ex Machina No Country for Old Men Gattaca Dogma I Am Legend Bonnie and Clyde nyg 02-13-08, 05:01 PM I'll be buying all of these BDs in March: Ice Age Gattaca Hitman I, Robot Independence Day I am Legend Bonnie and Clyde MickB 02-13-08, 05:46 PM No Country for Old Men Gattaca I Am Legend Bonnie & Clyde SirDrexl 02-13-08, 07:34 PM No Country for Old Men and Gattaca are must-haves for me. I may get Bonnie and Clyde and DVE. I'll probably get I, Robot at some point, but I usually wait for a sale on most Fox catalog titles. lgans316 02-13-08, 08:38 PM Won't be buying anything unless there is some firesale. NO BOGO / B2G1 = No Sale. Jiffylush 02-13-08, 09:19 PM Won't be buying anything unless there is some firesale. NO BOGO / B2G1 = No Sale. There is a big sale at amazon right now, unfortunately the stuff I want from march isn't on sale. :( robertc88 02-15-08, 08:44 AM I can honesty see myself getting between 5 to 10 of these new titles. Thanks for the feedback on what you are anticipating buying! q3131a 02-15-08, 10:46 AM Won't be buying anything unless there is some firesale. NO BOGO / B2G1 = No Sale. +1 OldCodger73 02-15-08, 10:48 AM Buying No Country for Old Men and Enchanted; renting Independence Day and possibly Bonnie and Clyde. jkcheng122 02-15-08, 11:10 AM Won't be buying anything unless there is some firesale. NO BOGO / B2G1 = No Sale. heh, we are so spoiled by the BOGO/B2GO sales. then again if prices werent so high now we wouldnt have to say no bogo = no sale. c'mon studios, get the prices lowered. SanDiegoinHD 02-16-08, 05:30 AM I Robot Independence Day I Am Legend No Country For Old Men Ice Age This will be a busy March for Blu for me after a lackluster first two months of the year. However, that did let me recoup from all the Christmas buying sales and mania. Plus, that gave me the chance to pick up LOST Season 3 and Ocean's Trilogy on Blu-Ray Sven Almighty 02-16-08, 08:15 AM None, well maybe I Robot if the reviews are good. ragar01 02-16-08, 08:49 AM It will depend on the cash flow as always. Now if I can get past my favorite soundtrack retailers and the next 2 weeks with the release of Film Score Monthly's Blue Box (The complete scores to all 4 of the Chris Reeve Superman films) and Varese Sarabande's next batch of limited editions which are announced shortly after the Oscar broadcast(probably 5 titles definitely including 7 discs). I will for sure pick up Enchanted and Independence Day(which I have on laserdisc). Gary robertc88 02-19-08, 03:05 PM Saving my pennies. Cannot wait for March. :) dpags 02-19-08, 03:58 PM No Country For Old Men Hitman Enchanted Independence Day EPlay 02-19-08, 06:12 PM No Country for Old Men Enchanted Gattaca Dan in Real Life davew61 02-19-08, 08:04 PM No Country for Old Men.......one of the reasons i picked up a PS3 a few weeks ago along w/ the Warners announcement. luigionlsd 02-19-08, 09:23 PM My birthday is 3/9, so I'm pretty thrilled that the studios decided to make 3/11 March's "big day" of discs :D Pre-ordered: Gattaca No Country for Old Men Dogma Enchanted Bonnie & Clyde I'll probably end up nabbing DVE too. What a great month! savage1005 02-20-08, 01:12 AM No Country and I Robot shadowrage 02-20-08, 01:38 AM I'm pleased that so many people are planning on picking up No Country. But a word to the wise. The film has almost no sound except dialogue and a few gunshots, the wind should sound good. I dont there is even a soundtrack. It adds alot to the beauty of the film but be warned. You should also know that you will not like the ending(There Will Be Blood does that part better). My list for March No Country Gattaca(Uma in HD!!) I Robot(If it's less than $15) ID4(Goldblum is the man) Enchanted(Dempsey's hair is my idol) I am Legend(Just to complete Will Smith month) BTW-Between Yuma, No Country, Jesse James, and There Will be blood there are some really good contemporary westerns available in HD. Friggin cool. IMATS25 02-20-08, 07:12 AM No Country for Old Men and I am Legend robertc88 02-20-08, 08:57 AM Best month ever for BD releases IMHO. Thanks for the responses! Joe Cole 02-20-08, 09:47 AM Pre-ordered: Gattaca Ice Age ID4 Enchanted I, Robot And I count Unbreakable since it releases on April 1. Hey it is the one I want most.... :) egrady 02-20-08, 11:20 AM "Which March Releases Will You Buy" I, Robot and Independence Day. I'll rent No County For Old Men first as I shy away from blind buys. While I'll be buying March releases, it won't be IN March. After seeing all the deals on Fox titles over the holidays I'm very reluctant to pay more than $20 for a BD. I just picked up The Rock for $15 at BB. All good things come to he who waits. I urge everyone to restrain themselves until Fox does away with their ridiculous pricing. They've done this with LD, DVD and now BD. I've learned from my mistakes. vpn75 02-20-08, 12:02 PM "Which March Releases Will You Buy" I, Robot and Independence Day. I too have a hard time justifying the ridiculous prices FOX is charging for their catalog titles, but I don't know if I can wait for I, Robot. I have a feeling it is going to be a truly reference disk. I may hold off on getting Independence Day though until it goes on sale. paulisme 02-20-08, 06:12 PM I absolutely cannot wait for No Country For Old Men and Bonnie & Clyde. TuenMuner 02-20-08, 06:19 PM ID4 for sure. I may get Appleseed but I haven't seen the first one yet. Crimson King 02-20-08, 06:42 PM No Country For Old Men and I, Robot. Can't wait for March 11th. Im going to have to take issue with your blanket statement of "You should also know that you will not like the ending" of the Coen brothers No country for old Men.Id like to think that most AVS members are glad the Coen brothers stayed true to the vision of Cormac McCormacs novel and can appreciate that they resisted the urge to end things with a hollywood style shootout or explosion. The ending is haunting and powerful as is.Thank the lord for film makers like the Coen brothers. xb1032 02-21-08, 12:33 AM The Rookie and Ice Age. jaffa69 02-21-08, 01:20 PM My ID4 has just been posted from MOVIETYME:) and ive also gone for I ROBOT I AM LEGEND BONNIE AND CLYDE robertc88 02-28-08, 11:45 AM I usually don't preorder but I'm doing so for March releases. I can't see buying movies that have DTS-HD, since the players can't play it. So which of the March crop have TruHD tracks (or possibly 48khz/34bit uncompressed) tracks? Only Fox and New Line are using DTS-HD MA as of now. The other studios use TrueHD or PCM, though some titles from Warner are Dolby Digital. However, I expect Warner to move to lossless as standard, at least on new releases, when their titles are produced just for BD. Michael Clayton may have been the last one prepared for both (and thus with DD). It remains to be seen what New Line will do now with them being folded into Warner. I don't know if the specs have been released, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bonnie and Clyde turns out to be DD since it's an older mono film. I wouldn't let this stop me from buying it, but to each his own. lrstevens421 02-28-08, 10:34 PM Already pre-ordered: I am Legend I Robot No Country for Old Men Hitman Can't wait :) robertc88 03-07-08, 02:38 PM The problem now is which to watch first! :) ThePrisoner 03-07-08, 02:54 PM No Country For Old Men Independence Day I Am Legend Dan_J_H. 03-11-08, 10:49 PM I loved August Rush!
