Finally got to watch this one last night. For those not familiar with the title it is Guy Ritchie's new film (Snatch, Lock Stock) with Jason Statham. The HD transfer is quite good with exceptional contrast and great color. I imported this on DVD a few years ago from Russia and this transfer is quite a step up from that. Colors are still skewed toward yellow/gold a bit, but that is intentional. Detail is outstanding though.

The disappointment is the plain Jane DD 5.1 soundtrack. Not awful, but it wasn't quite as good as the DTS track on the Russian DVD I have. Nice dynamics and sound design though. I love the score for this film. Oozes style.

Sony announced the DVD release for next month or April I believe but no word on a Blu-ray release unfortunately. But I would recommend this import. The audio could be a tad better, but the picture is excellent.

P 4.5/5
S 3.5/5

Thanks for the heads up Kris. This is the first that I've heard of this film.

I just checked out the trailer on Sony's site.

Would you have a recommendation on a good place to import this? Thanks in advance.

I have the UK DVD that came out a few years ago.

I see that region 1 is finally getting a DVD of this which is nice. A BD would have been better. I will import this if I don't here anything. I have to wait a few weeks as I just put in a larger order on amazon.fr...

How is the movie itself, compared to 'Lock, Stock...' and 'Snatch'?

This was a great film! Where is the import from, and do you have a link to a place to buy it?

I bought it here:

If you look up in the upper right hand side you'll see a British flag for viewing the site in English.

Different. Both of those were pretty high paced, funny and trendy. This is a crime thriller and while it isn't slow, it isn't frantic and trendy either. More of a thinking film and more serious in tone. Still stylish as hell though with great photography and editing.

This movie has a hell of a kaballah based twist at the end. Definitely a sign of Madonna getting her talons into Mr. Ritchie.

I've heard a lot of people say the shorter American cut is actually superior. I have a divx rip of the Russian DVD and Snatch is my favorite movie and I was disappointed.

The new ending is quite different, but it helps with the premise. I think the new ending is cleaner and probably a bit more audience friendly. Personally I liked both of them, but the new ending sat a bit better with me overall.

I did enjoy the movie. I watched a Euro release.
I'll admit I liked Snatch a whole lot more but mostly because of the humor. Revolver just didn't seem funny for the most part (except maybe the fat guy and the shotgun).
Definitely interesting filming and a very different movie. It's nice to see something other than the typical cookie cutter film.
However, I will say I was confused by the ending. I guess that's the point?
The first time I watched the movie it made hardly any sense and the second time I understood the movie a lot better but I couldn't figure out the ending.

The ending is completely different in the new director's cut. The confusion is pretty much gone.

Could you please elaborate on this?
I'd like to know the differences but can’t find anything on the net!

The film ends after the conversation he has with the loansharks after his visit to Liotta's bedroom, when he is still in the club. From there you get snippets of interviews with some real world professors on some of the concepts this film brings to light.

Kris,
You need to hide that spoiler. Thats not cool.

tn2005,
Yes.

I have wanted to see this movie for a LOooong time. I just can't get myself to drop $45 for a movie.

I was actually pretty excited to see Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid as well until I saw the exchange rate. Babel is $80?? FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!

Will xploitedcinema bring in this title?

If you email tony at xploited he will do custom orders for you. It might cost more then importing it directly from the source. But you can deal with tony if theirs issues or anything.

I imported the UK version 2 years ago and did not like the film. I somehow hope Guy gets his touch back one of these days.

I read that the US re-cut (I dunno if I you would call it a Director's Cut ) fixed some of the problems the original UK release had and improved the storyline to be easier to understand and follow. The UK theatrical release was so disappointing that they never even bothered releasing it else where. I hope they take the time and release it on BR, I guess they are testing the waters with the DVD release to see if there are sales to be had.

Lets hope the next Ritchie movie Rockarolla is back to his Lock and Snatch writing and directing
