View Full Version : We Were Soldiers in Australia DTS-HD MA???
I just came across this:
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/797956
The cover art suggests that it has DTS-HD MA! Does anyone know if ICON BD releases are region free or region B locked?

How was the DTS-HD MA track?
Was it region coded? You can check to see if it is on the back, it should have an A, B, or C.

lgans316 08-25-08, 05:31 AM Has anyone got the AUS version ? It's available for US $24 incl shipping.
raoul_duke 08-25-08, 08:56 AM The AUS version is the same as the UK disc, I have the UK release and it has the Australian certification logo on the actual disc, along with the UK ratings logo. Both released by Icon.
lgans316 08-25-08, 09:41 AM Thanks mate. Does it feature DTS-HD audio ? Is the PQ better than the U.S release ?
raoul_duke 08-25-08, 12:22 PM It certainly does feature DTS-HD, as well as Dolby 5.1 EX and 2.0 surround,(if so inclined).I cannot compare the PQ to the US disc as I have never seen it. Having said that, just by quickly checking the disc, I can tell you that it's a BD-50 with AVC encoding and high bit-rate peaks. I believe that the US disc is also a BD-50 but with an MPEG-2 encode. The UK disc has a very apparent grain structure to it, so no worries about DNR on here.
Regarding extras, the UK only has the commentary and 25 min making of, which is shown in a tiny window-box. My set says that it's 1080p/24fps for this feature, but it's clearly just upscaled 480p. No PAL material here to upset NTSC players. Hope that all helps.

Hi lgans :)
Where can I get it for this price?
lgans316 08-25-08, 09:51 PM Thanks raoul_duke for the info.
AlexBC,
You can import it from dvdcrave.com.au.
I have a question regarding the DTS HD MA track. Did anyone notice that the DD EX track sounded clearer and louder than the DTS HD MA track. Did you feel the same way about these audio tracks?
Actually the 2.0 sounded even clearer with more bass. Don't know each one is the most correct

Man, I'm glad I'm not crazy. I completely agree. The reason I imported this was for the lossless audio. The dialog was too low compared to the soundtrack on the DTS HD MA. I kept flipping back and forth between the Dolby 5.1 and the DTS HD to see if I had lost my mind. All is not lost, however, the PQ was slightly better than my HD DVD and I got it for about $13. But the audio...disappointing.

I have the U.K. version, plays on my PS3 and Oppo BDP-83 just fine.
As for the AQ, I found it to be a little dissapointing compared to my old HD-DVD. Not sure if it's just me but the lfe does not seem as deep and tight, I have not tried the lossy track but will after reading some other opinions here.
Litlgi74 06-06-11, 09:59 AM Wow... just picked this (UK Version) up for DTSHD-MA... The HD Audio is terrible... It seems as if the center channel is much lower than the rest if the channels and all the other channels seem to bright.
:(

You are correct. It's almost worth rebuying the US release for the lossy DTS sountrack...MUCH BETTER!
raoul_duke 06-06-11, 01:13 PM The UK DVD was the same, if I remember. I recall ordering the Hong Kong DTS release back in the day.

They had different cover art.
raoul_duke 06-06-11, 04:42 PM What's that got to do with the price of fish? ;)
