Hello. I'm getting really close to pulling the trigger on 2 of the Conquests. Wanted to see if everyone was happy with their subs from Epik. Also, how is their customer service? Will they be quick to take care of you if something happens? I know they are new to the block but wanted to see if anyone who has dealt with them has had a pleasant experience before I place an order. Thanks.:)

Don't own one but they are highly thought of at their price point and well reviewed. You'd probably get more of the specific information and answers you're looking for in the Epik Thread.

That should convince you. :)

I don't get how watching a cone move violently in and out is going to tell anyone anything specific or actionable about how it sounds: response linearity, THD by frequency, extension, group delay, etc... Sure, it looks cool and powerful. OK.

Yep - gotta agree on that one. Just about any decent sub can do that.

I've heard about a few minor issues with these guys, and they are definitely going through the growing the pains of a company getting too big too fast. Personally, I kind of view them like a stock right now. They were great if you got in early enough - but now with some of the problems and delays occuring you may be better off to wait it out a bit before ordering. Though I don't recall ever reading anything negative about them ignoring an issue - which is a very good sign. I nearly got one myself, but I was able to afford a new SVS PB Ultra, so I went that route. A new Tower or Castle - with shipping, brokerage, and conversion (though that's negligible now) would have come close to what I got my piano black PB13 for anyway, so the SVS was the better buy for me.

That's about the most negative thing you're going to read about an Epik around here, so that should tell you something about their product ;)

What made you go the SVS route? I know they make great subs, but I have heard the Castle and the Tower could outpace it for much less money. And for only $100 more then the SVS the Conquest could quite easily slaughter it. I just don't why anyone would choose an SVS over an Epik at this point...

im not KK.

'at this point' ... of the two manufacturers, it is only the SVS Ultra with TWO third party measurements that conclude that it is indeed a really really good subwoofer.

'at this point' ... epik has not even released detailed specs of their products.

Man I'm anti-svs and pro-epik but in this case you're just going too far. The pb13 delivers for its price, Castle and Tower roughly match it for less money yes, but it has it's advantages for which it can be prefered..and the Conquest outedges it not "slaughters", again having it's own disadvantages too.
Kaptain Krunch explained that getting Epiks into canada ends up being no cheaper than pb13.

i have an epik tower. its a wonderful, powerful sub.
i had some problems with fedex destroying first sub- caliber.
so chad at epik upgraded me to a tower for my trouble.
the c.s. at epik is at a level i have not yet seen or heard from at any other company. i would highly recommend any epik product to any one. if i ever need another sub there would be no question in my mind as to who to call!

Literally outstanding sound quality ... flat response linearity ... very low extension ... very low THD ... high output.
SVS has demonstrated all of these with the Ultra 13. While I do not doubt that Epik subs are wonderful performers, verifiable test results addressing all of the above parameters would go a very long way.

Tom Nousaine contributed some info about the Conquest, primarily the max output numbers which are rightly staggering. All other known information about Epik subs though is primarily word of mouth antecdotal only.

This is the same dilemma facing eD with their likely excellent subs as well.

OK, we get it. They're loud.

Sound quality is a different achievement though. People here are looking for an excellent, accurate sub for home theater and music use.

This is not an SPL drag race application. If you want that, then build a one note bandpass sub tuned to 35hz, heap on the amps, and have at it.

I have had the Conquest for about 2 months

I am very satisfied with its performance
With HT material it has the impact and house shaking bass that most of us are looking for.

During my selection process I spoke to Chad several times. He was great in answering all my questions.
Delivery was exactly as promised, in about 1 week.

I would definitely buy from Epik again.

I was originally looking at the PB13U, but when I found out I could get that same performance for 999 with the Castle, it was a done deal. I would much rather have an Epik Castle AND an Onkyo 805, than just the PB13 with my older receiver(Pio 1014). In fact, I am seriously considering a second Castle just for the fun of it. I have been extremely impressed with Epik and would recommend them to anyone.

Yea have to agree with OVALNUT. I'm looking at either between the Knight or eD's A5-350. My interest are 98-99% movies and as much as I want that dramatic "house-shaking bass" I'm also concerned with the "sound quality" and a "excellent, accurate sub".

Of what I have read on here, it sounds like the SVS PB Ultra falls in that category but two things hold me back on that(G/F and $ :( ). I got it down to these two and it's tough to pick one. Any difference in down firing (A5-350) vs. front firing (Knight)?

I'll give you three reasons why I went with SVS over Epik. (I was considering the Conquest and tower)

1. Customization of the sub's sound
2. Appearance
3. Reputation

Epik is still very young and is building their reputation now. At the time I ordered my SVS I could not get any "data" about any of the Epik subs (FR). Other than Tom Nousaine's report for the Conquest.

Newb to the sub part of a system.

Am looking at the SVS PC-U13 and the Epik Conquest.

The Epik
18" Driver / bigger motor
Class AB Pre amp
Class D amp
1000W Bash amp
Good reviews
Cost 200+ more
Shipping 135 more
No parametric EQ / Room balance

SVS
13" Driver
Class AB & D amp
750W Bash amp
Good reviews
Parametric EQ & Room balance
300+ less shipped

Any input from someone who has played with both?

At this price point, 300+ diff. is not a deal breaker for me.

Room size it's going into is 12W x 20L x 7H with openings along one side that can be closed off with heavy drapes. Carpeted and two rows of seating.

Speaker system is Klipsch RF83, RC64, RS61 on a Denon 3808CI.

Thanks

If you have the cash and the space, get the Conquest.

I'm loving my Epik Castle! I think it provides great bang for the buck. The delivery time was pretty good (22 days) compared to the ED subs.

Since this is an Epik thread...get the Epik. Having spoken to several Conquest owners and a couple of folks that actually have heard the PB13 and Conquest in the same room, it's really about that small subjective area in your back brain that tells you what you like best. If this were a SVS thread, I'd probably say SVS.

Yeah, I have no doubt the Conquest wins in the sheer output category...
