So I have an old Panasonic AE100U sitting in my closet, and I figured if I could get it running under $300, it'd be worth it. The problem is when you turn the projector on, it will run for about 30 seconds, then will turn off the lamp and flash the LAMP indicator. Now since this is flashing and not constant, the manual indicates Lamp Circuit Failure. Also when starting during this 30 seconds, there is a slight flicker in the bulb for about half a second, then ti slowly brightens until its turned off.

I've opened this up and done some diagnosis, and I've narrowed it down to either the bulb or the ballast board, given this information, and I'm happy to answer any questions, which do you think I should replace?

Ballast: $265
Lamp: $288

It is probably the IRIS problem. Please do a search on the IRIS problem. That is what you are looking for. Good luck.

That's one thing he can be sure that's not the problem, the AE-100 has no iris...
I think you are mixing up the AE with the AX-100

Well thanks for trying, but yes the AE100 is pretty old. So no suggestions?

Well it's a good opportunety to buy a new pj when the old one dies...
Otherwise I think it's best if you could try to borrow a lamp from some nice guy in
your neighborhood and try that out first, maybe the lamp from the AE-200 and 300
also fitts in the 100, I don't know when they (Panasonic) switched the 100-lamp for a
new one
But it could also be the high power part (is that the same as ballast board?)that has given up, that was a pretty common failure when the AE-100 came out

Maybe you could get hold of an used working AE-100, then you could try both things,
they shouldn't cost so much these days and I think there are more then one AE-100
that is collecting dust in a closet...

Good luck
