Okay, here's the sad situation. I have my DVD player, HTPC, receiver, and Tivo in a seperate room from our TV. Over the past few years, it has worked great with a Buffalo IR system. I had a receiver that I moutned in my center channel speaker, feeding a dist. block near the components, with an IR blaster on each component. No problems.

Recently replaced the RPTV with a Plasma, and of course I got too much IR interference. I bought this to replace my IR receiver:

And it works great on everything but my HTPC! It solved my plasma issues for the audio receiver, Tivo, and DVD Player, but it won't control my HTPC no matter what I try. If I press the button 100 times, it might get through once. I don't understand! This happens with the Plasma TV on or off.

Any suggestions? I'm about ready to GIVE UP.... lol. It's all gotten too complicated.....

Thanks
Robb

Find out the carrier frequency your HTPC IR sensor is looking for. I'd be wiling to bet it wants something which is out of the range the IR receiver you have now purchased operates in. This is still a somewhat common problem with certain satellite & cable tuners but can obviously occur with any IR receiving product.

Most of todays AV gear uses a frequency range somewhere between 34k - 42k. Some devices are still being made that us frequencies over 46k which many IR receivers that are part of an IR system do not pass.

Wow, I've been digging for this information and can't seem to find it anywhere. The new receiver says it's good for 40 to 56k. My remote is a Microsoft model 1039, although I don't use that remote I use my Harmony.....

40-56 is pretty high. Most of my equipment is in the 38 area.

I found some info on remotecentral that says that I may be actually blasting too much IR at the receiver, so I'll try to cover it with some tape and see if that helps.....

Video 321 is right...40k is still on the high side of what most gear uses (even though I said 34 to 42). If that receiver states it's good for over 40k (but not under) I'd replace it. Xantach, Speakercraft, etc...the Speakercraft one is quite good & seems to be one of the few I've used that works on everything I've thrown at it...even okay around plasma w/out it being a "plasma-freindly" labeled model.
