My SP4805 has died and I have been searching for a replacement. I read through the forums and decided either the SP-7210 or the new HD71. I cannot make a choice between the two. The projector is for the basement and sometimes there is ambient light from a couple windows during the day. I am really looking for quality and brightness. I hear that SP-7210 is a little loud while the HD71 can run at 27 Db in Eco mode. However, SP-7210 has D3 and HD71 has D2. Some advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'll defer to those that have seen both to give an opinion, however I must mention that the special deal for the 7210 is now over.

well, even if the deal is over. How do the machines stand against each other? Does D3 really make that much of a difference?

Read the review at Projector Central for info on the Infocus.

IMHO, no. I own the 7210 and another highly regarded 720p (non DC3). They are more similar than not. I'm not familiar with the 71 though.

what is the other highly regarded 720P your are talking about?

I think "no" is not true... because there are signifacant differences.

Well I am looking at used SP7205 becuase of that. I had a X1 back in the day that looked awesome. I got my SP4805 thinking the blacks would absolutely destroy it. But I really didn't see a huge difference, the pixels where more invisible on the 4805 but the black were not night and day by any means(could hardly tell really). So unless I get a SP7210 DC3 for the right price I'm going to grab DC2+ in a lower price used unit. I saw a HD65 for well under 1K today and just can't pay more than 1k for anything out there today. If not I'm going used and rolling the dice.
