I did a quick search and couldn't find any write-ups on this. I'm redoing my basement home theater and I want to hide all of my equipment in the closet. I have the following:

Receiver
hd dvd player
xbox 360

I know the 360 will work behind the doors but I was wondering how I could get the receiver and dvd player to turn on behind the door. I heard about the ir blasters a few weeks ago and thought it was a neat idea. Can someone explain how these work?

What do i need? just a few IR sensors and a block? Any top brands or kits i should look for?

I've got a wall mount speakercraft IR IRC4.0 receiver, running (via cat5) to a speakercraft AT1.0 amplified terminator block, and then through Jobsite brand dual emitter.

It's a lot simpler than I ever thought it would be. The only problem is the Speakercraft IR receiver gets a lot of interference from my plasma TV, and I was under the impression that it was designed to prevent that...

With the TV off, it works absolutely perfect. I'm still trying to figure out what to do about the interference...

You might try adding an IR Pass filter to the receiver to try to filter out the plasma interference. The filter material can be found relatively cheaply here:
