View Full Version : New House. Much bigger room. Will my setup work?

So we are moving and I'm moving my whole living room setup into the new house.
For audio I currently have an HK AVR 245 running a Klipsch 5.1 setup with an RW12d sub, RF62 floorstanders, RC52 center, and RS42 surrounds.

I have another set of RS42 surrounds for 7.1 and a Pioneer Elite VSX-74TXVi that will be adding to/replacing the current system for the new room.

My question is, will this system be enough for the new (much bigger) room? I'm mostly worried about the sub.

The current room is 13x23x8 with the primary seating 2/3 of the way down the long dimension. The new room is 28x20x18high with the seating about 60% of the way down the long dimension. The new room has carpet flooring and cypress wood on the three walls with a balcony half way up the other wall.

We aren't moving for a few more weeks I would just like to know if I will be fine with what I have or I need to start saving to switch something out.

You might find that you want a larger sub or a second RW12d, especially if you are going to try and pressurize the room. However if gut rumbling lows are not your taste you could also just try moving the sub closer to the listening area.

Your only going to change the distance from the mains to your seating by about 2 feet, so unless you currently run your system at max gain, you should not even notice a difference:75 dB at 15 feet or 74 dB at 17 feet.

what he said.

Keep saving for an upgrade, you know you will want it some day. But don't buy anything till after you more and see how your stuff works out.

You'll find out in two weeks. Let us know.

Thanks. I figured that the sub might be the only problem.

I'll post pics and report back once I'm in and have everything run.
