A few months ago, I seem to recall that there was a movie or two that was released on both Blu-ray and HD-DVD, but the Blu-ray version had bettwer features because of the space availability.

Can anyone recall what that movie might have been and what the difference were? I seem to recall it was a pretty big announcement that one of the studios was giving Blu-ray a better version....I just can't remember the movie/movies?

Thanks.

Harry Potter 5: The Order of the Phoenix had certain extra features in HD on the Blu-ray version only. HD DVD had the same features in SD even though it had IME.

The overseas HD DVD version had all special features in FULL HD.

If I recall correctly, this was back in the fall timeline and I thought one of the advantages of the Blu-ray version included a better audio or video encode?

It was Shoot Em Up.

Shoot Em Up was a very short movie similar to Swordfish. If you compare the scanned bit rates of Shoot Em Up and Swordfish there ain't any big difference. Once Warner tries to encode Batman Begins, V and Matrix for Blu-ray with PiP they will come understand the difficulties in authoring BD. Before jumping into this IME fancy let's expect Warner to feature the basic bookmarking facility and the cool graphical menu design on Blu-rays post June'2008.

Fox didn't seem to have any problem coding Sunshine with PiP for Blu-Ray.

Lets see, fox did it with Sunshine, Sony with Resident Evil, Lionsgate with War. I believe Disney and Warner are the only ones that haven't released a profile 1.1 title. Please explain why warner is going to have trouble with PiP on blu-ray??? I find it ironic that the studio(Warner) that is holding back titles due to PiP capabilities is one of the last ones to release a profile 1.1 movie.

I could care less if there is pip or even any extras on these, I just want these movies in Blu-ray! Other's I can't wait for are The Big Lebowski, Transformers, and of course some day the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

God and Generals is another WB release that had both feature and extras on BD50 whereas on HD DVD, the extras were put on DVD side of a combo disc.

Shoot Em Up is not on HD DVD...

The hd dvd was canned. It was due months after the bluray release. It was quite notable at the time that encodes were going to be done to be format specific.

I am not sure exactly what the OP is asking, but the titles that I remember are

NIN
Nature's Journey

I seem to remember that the NIN disk has a higher bitrate in certain places in the Blu-ray.

I also remember one of the makers of Nature's Journey saying that the Blu-ray would be a seperate encode to take advantage of the Blu-ray spec.

Do a search for these titles and I think you might have your answer.

only NOT. Why do people bother to fight this kind of thing?
