View Full Version : DVDO Trade in program terminated for Canada
Well guys the title says it all.I tried to order the VP50 Pro using my VP50 as a trade in and the online ordering would not let me do it. So I called ABT this morning and I was told by the sales folk that as of yesterday the International trade in program of which Canada is part of...has been terminated.Thats all she wrote. We are up **** creek without a paddle.
I guess it's at least part fault of a few internet dealers. If I see brandnew 50pros for sale under $2.000 there's really little point in continuing the trade-in programm. Just buy a 50pro and sell your non-pro 50 yourself. Should work out the same....
It still sucks...
The reason they gave me was that "shipping costs" were becoming too expensive.
Well at least I have no reason to stick with DVDO now. ;)
I hear you...I was all set to trade because I had the itch....so it will have to be some other VP. Any recommendations folks...I would like to have an SDI input as I have a modded 5900. Display device is a VP11 S1 and both HD and BR players.
Maybe I don't even need the damn thing...LOL...oh well I will have to scrath the itch with something else.
Josh...instead of dropping a bomb on us with no warning can't ABT at least give us a small grace period then put the new rules in effect. This came out of no where and there is absolutely nothing on the website telling us this until we start to place an order.
Thanks
cinema mad 02-16-08, 07:49 PM Wow that is A huge Bomb shell !!!,BUTof coarse DVDO dont wont to make A big noise about the international upgrades being droped it's not in there best interest, It's the same for bug reporting on the VP50pro DVDO would prefer us to report VP bugs direct to them and not post them on the VP50/pro forums ....

Agreed. Maybe stop the trade in program for newly purchased units after a specific date, but still offer the trade in program for people who purchased before that date. Because, I don't know, but if someone were to buy a dvdo scaler over another because of the great trade in program only to have the rug pulled out from under them, they might be kind of ticked....Just a thought. I hate things like this, this trade in program only applies to these 300 or so million people, the rest of you 6,000,000,000 in the world that buy our products can all go f$&* yourselves:) Either offer a trade in program or don't. It's not rocket science.
It totally sucks. You would think that they would have given us some kind of warning at the very least. If the costs doing the international business were not attractive to them they could have given us the option to absorb the costs. But they did nothing.
Thats how you treat a loyal customer....I was on my third upgrade.Looks like it will be my last.
And there is still nothing on the website,
I thought these guys had more class than that.

Exactly, all other higher end a/v companies that i've dealt in regards to upgrades or servicing or anything shipping is always on the customer, not the company, unless it's a warranty issue but even then it's not always the case. So the shipping reason IMHO is Bull.
Yeah a mention on the website as a minimum, a mention here from josh as polite gesture and maybe mention on some of the international forums dvdo guys occasional visit. :)
From what I've seen there wasn't a huge take up for the vp50pro trade in, at least in the uk, so maybe they thought it was time to end it. I know some of the eu distributors have taken a bit of poking from dvdo each year to take part so there are reasons, however the customer focused way would have been to give say a months notice. :)
Personal it's not an issue as before the pro came out I'd already pritty much decided not to go with dvdo again. Alas this change just reduces the 2nd hand value of my vp50. :(
Josh@dvdo 02-21-08, 03:38 AM I am sorry that this was not announced better.
Our upgrade program is still available to some international customers. Upgrade pricing may vary by country. If you are an International customer that is interested in upgrading your DVDO unit please send us an e-mail at upgrade@anchorbaytech.com that includes the following information:

shingdaz 02-22-08, 04:55 PM I spoke with a Anchor-BAy sales rep, and he informed me that is was cancelled, but is still under review, so I assume it's still possible in the future to use the upgrade program.
I definatly hope DVDO keeps the upgrade program, cause I know I'll be trading in my VPpro when a new model eventually comes out.

+1
- I guess the upside is that we don't need to keep on the DVDO path
