The title pretty much says it all.

i'm specifically interested in Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone, Flags Of Our Fathers and The Island.

Even though I hate those rating logos, I can live with them on the cover, but not the disc itself.

Thanks, ;)

Yes, they're on the disc. There might actually be multiple logos for European territories. But hey, the disc goes from case to player, so who cares? Weirdo...

Thanks Raoul.

I know it's weird, just can't explain :D

Here's a picture of the Blu-ray import of The Island released by Warner (the pic I actually got from someone else on this forum):

So yes, its quite a mess with all the rating logos plastered all over.

Oh and don't feel wierd, I also take things like this very seriously.

Thank you very much Gamer ;)

And oh, that's just beyond... well, what a mess!

The only reason I can get over ratings on the front cover is because I make my own customs. But of course, I can't/won't replace the original label.

I'm from Brazil and discs around here don't have rating logos. My favorite imports are from US, Japan and Korea because they also don't feature these terrible logos.

No problem man. Guys like us got to stick together on issues like this. Oherwise we will never get the answers we are looking for! :D

Also, I have other pics of what some import Blu-ray disc's look like from other countries by various studios.

Wow that's great! I'd really appreciateif you could post some.;)

Regarding HP and Flags I'll be wainting for WB local versions.

But there's a couple I'm really crazy about and I guess there'll be no way around it. They are We Were Soldiers and Alpha Dog. Both are distributed by Icon in the UK and Australia with DTS-HDMA tracks as I also don't get movies without lossless (The Island would be the first, but only because there was no other title of interest on the Amazon UK 3x2 deal).

The sad thing is UK and AUS are known for some of the biggest ratings logos known to man.:)

I just wrote to the BBFC about this.

I don't mind the inclusion of the UK rating symbol, especially since the introduction of consumer advice, which provides a neat capsule summary of the reason for each rating (strong language, violence, sex, etc.). However, the recent trend toward the inclusion of ratings from both the UK and Irish censor (a cost-cutting measure which allows distribs to circulate the same disc in both the UK and Eire) has resulted in the kind of clutter mentioned here. It's ugly and pointless (each symbol says the same thing!), and it's much too intrusive, especially on the packaging for HD media, which is smaller than SD discs.

However, the BBFC dismissed these arguments with the following assertions:

"The inclusion of symbols on DVD packaging was an industry agreement as a cost efficiency. It should be borne in mind that the Irish market is a prohibitively small one. Distributors need to be sure of a certain level of return on their product in order for it to be cost-effective to release DVDs there. Simple and relatively inexpensive measures such as dual labelling enables companies to distribute and market DVDs in Eire. For this reason, there are no plans to remove the Irish certificates for the foreseeable future."

This, despite the fact the video industry has been going strong since the 1980's and that the Eire market has survived quite nicely without this 'cost-cutting measure' for [I]years!. Until around 2006, actually, when this dual-labelling scheme was first introduced. Now that they are here, however, the Eire symbols are here to stay. So there.

Should you feel differently, try contacting the BBFC at the following e-mail address, and let them know exactly what you think of their stubborn insistence on cluttering up packaging with this rubbish:

Is the blue logo the Irish one? I know the red one is British and assumed the blue one is EU.

Yes. They have one for U.K and one for IL/E.U. But the case and the media quality is much better.

That's one reason I haven't gone to the trouble of importing some movies. ick

If it's of any interest, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is also available from Canada and there are no ratings logos on the disc or front of the case.

That's great news Gekkou, thank you ;)

Can you point me to a on line retailer where I can get this Canadian version.

So it's correctly titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, right?

If I get it from Amazon CA, will it be the real Canadian version?

I got mine from amazon.ca. Yep, it's Philosopher's Stone :) and it's Canadian alright. Even has some French-language titles and descriptions on the case, though the disc itself is only in English.
