I have a 11' x 19' room that I took out an older HTIB and replaced it with a new Onkyo. Here is the breakdown of the equipment:

HTIB: Onkyo HT-S990THX 7.1 THX (did not use the surround side or rear speakers)

Surround (side and rear) speakers: HiFi Works THX speakers

Additional subwoofer: Onkyo SKW-200 (150 Watt 8" ported long throw)

In the room two feet from the tv wall there is a french door, there is a closet door and a door that leads to the storage area (pictures will be posted soon).

I have tried placing the subs in different areas but I can not get the bass that I want. The walls near the sub shake, items on the wood floors upstairs shake, pictures on the wall shake but once you get a few feet from the subs...nothing but in the next room if the french door is open. You get woof, woof.

What can be goign wrong?

So, you're using two small HTIB subs? I'm not clear on what setup you're running. It sounds like you're experiencing classic room acoustic issues, as bass almost always sounds stronger near walls and esp. in corners. Also, a HTIB sub probably doesn't have the cone area or power to do much bass wise anyways, depending on what your expectations are. For now, I'd suggest continued experimenting with placement. Have you tried putting the sub in your listening position and then walking/crawling around the room to determine where the bass sounds strongest? That is where your sub should go.

Thaks deneb. Sorry for confusion. I am using two HITB subs. I thought I would save some money and buy anothe HTIB (refurbished Onkyo 880 for $320 shipped) instead of paying $400 for a sub since the SKW-200 used to sound good enough for me in the room before I took out the furniture.

That is also something that I left out in the post. There is no furniture except for a TV stand in the room right now. I cleared out while patching holes and fixing drywall. I plan on building or rebuilding a sectional to fit in the room.

I have not yet tried the crawl method. I will do over the weekend.

Update. The pictures may not be clear enough but the floor plan should tell it all. the bifold door was removed and I replaced with a regular door. The door that is on the side goes to the storage under the stairs.

The boxes on the wall (top) represent the in wall speakers. The smaller ones at the bottom are wall outlets. The room does not have the crown molding or chair rail yet.

ok this is really strange. I put a couch back in the room and you would think I put a new amp on the subs. They are much louder. I guess since the couch is anchored to the floor I am also feeling the bass a lot more as well. I will wait until I build my sectional and then report back. Just to think that I was going to buy a new subwoofer tomorrow.
