Hi,

I am rewiring the room and currently using 16 AWG wires for all the speakers, Front and center speakers are 5 feet from receiver and rear speakers are about 25-40 feet. I have 2 questions:
1) Can I use the same wires for in-wall installation or I need/should buy in-wall wires?
2) Is 16AWG will be enough or I should go for following 14AWG for rears?

1) If they will be run in-wall then use in-wall wires. :) Seriously, you probably should use CL2 or CL3 cables if you are running in-wall. I believe one of the major differences is that in-wall cables are double jacketed to protect it from vermin (mice, etc) and any nail punctures. Cost is not that much more so better to make it conform to code. Also, keep in mind that you can't share boxes with any service lines so you'll need to install a new box or use a boxless frame.

2) I'd go with 14 gauge.. not because you'll really need it but just because it's something you'll never want to replace. Again, the cost is usually not that much more for the cable.

Roger was a speaker designer for Mcintosh back in the day, I would trust him.

Good Luck.
