Need some major help here people, please!

My audio occasionally keeps getting "blips" or spots of sound loss while watching TV. It mostly only happens when watching a show through the DVR I've noticed. It is completely annoying and was wondering if this happens to more people than just me?
My sound is optical cable into my Sony Receiver. The sound issue is with programs in 5.1 Dolby surround. My receiver doesn't handle HDMI, and I'm wondering that if I upgrading to run my audio through HDMI instead of optical if this would "fix" my issue?

So if anyone out there can explain why I'm getting audio loss from my current set-up please help. I thought I read somewhere that sometimes if your video is HDMI (which mine is), and your audio is optical, sometimes their is an audio issue because of this set up????

It's a Moto DVR issue. Nothing you can do about it except complain.

I have a Scientific Atlanta DVR though.Yes it is common and I think it's a transmission issue.

Call your cable provider and see what they say!

Happens on my BEV9200 as well.....no drop outs from dvd/cd/pc, so I am assuming it is an issue with the signal.

And yes, from what I have read, it is a common issue :(
