I'm about to buy Sony Vegas Movie Studio v8 to edit my HDV videos (from Canon HV20)
it doesn't mention HDV, but the platinum version mentions improved HDV playback and memory.

Do I need the Platinum version?
What are the differences in practical terms? i.e. how significant are they?

Also it mentions that it does chroma key (green screen) - does that mean that if I buy a plain green cloth - I can transpose my video onto different backgrounds (ala nightly news casts)

thanks,
Jon

I purchased this and my understanding is that it should do HD content just fine. I only have a SD camcorder currently though.

I actually need to find a class or a quick course on the software as my book did not provide enough information for me to just play around with it and figure it all out.

I am interested about the green sheet thing, I have not heard about this and that would be fun to play with.

Sony Vegas only support HD with the Platinum version (Movie Studio) or the Vegas PRO. Take a look at this comparison chart:

Sony vegas 8 will not accept formats of HD unless you have quicktime updated.

Sony also will only save in a lower quality not HD.

I use magix pro editor 12 you may check them out
saves Hi def burns Hi def, and burns on a standard dvd for blue-ray machine, yet to try it

Magix is a product made from Sony pinnicle and Ulead
