I'm about to buy this streamer, but will like the advise of others on this thread. Is this future proof? or should i hold off. What i need is basically something that can play vob, iso, dat and music files stored on a usb drive connected to a pc.

thanks for your response.

Not sure about DAT but the rest it will do.
Future proof, nothing is future proof but updates can take you far in the future before you
are forced to change. Sadly, MVIXUSA is one of the companies in hardly bringing updates
with a record of having their customers wait almost a whole year on the MViX MX-760...

I don't like them personally for their lack of support but maybe they will do better with
the new model...

Don't get your hopes up too soon. I purchased the 780HD to replace my mediagate mg35. I thought the HDMI and SATA feature would be well worth it. So far, i've noticed that it takes longer to load up video files before playing. I'm having issues connecting it to my wireless network, and i'm waiting for a response from their "support" team. Other than that, it works "OK"

As for the guy looking to stream isos and vob files... I wouldn't suggest it. The files are way too huge to stream over a 802.11g network. Those files should be in the internal hard drive of the device. As for divx/xvid and mpeg files, those should stream decently from a wireless network.

The 780 works fine except for one major issue.

I have large number of VOB files which I play as a video jukebox. Some of these were originally recorded with variable audio volume. Where the volume was particularly low or high I ran the VOBs through a program called VideoRedo Plus to normalise the audio. On MVix 5000s, 760HD and Dvico TVix 4130 these videos play fine with the normalised volume. The 780 on the other hand does not recognise the volume adjustment and plays the VOBs at their orginal high/low levels. This is completely unacceptable, as when you adjust the volume up for a quiet track, the next track will play super loud.

This problem seems to evident when playing a ripped DVD which may have had the volume levelled prior to me ripping it. The other machines mentioned above play these ripped DVDs at the correct volume whereas the 780 will play them either very loud or exremely softly.

They must change the video playing function to match those of the 5000 or 760.

I just bought this today and out of 10 so far I give it a 7.

Setup was easy and worked with no problems with my wireless connection. Streaming DivX and Xvid files over wireless is not a problem. Where the streamer runs into trouble is wirelessly streaming .vob and .iso files. It simply can't handle it over wireless.

I am planning to run an RJ-45 cable into the home theatre room anyways so wireless shouldn't matter to me soon, however if it has trouble with .vob and/or .iso files with a wired connection, I'm gonna return it.

So if I want to go to NBC.com and watch a episode of ER by streaming video, can I stream that from my pc in the basement to my HDtv upstairs? Or does it only work if you can download a show to the hard drive?
