View Full Version : Another PopStar born? NMT HDX Player!

For those not as brilliant, intelligent and super sharp as me on this Friday, I'd like to explain the title refers to another PopCorn and ISTAR "look-a-like" being born, the HDX player. And super sharp as I am on this Friday, I also noticed how the complete content of the product page is taken from PopCorn up to the level of being "ridicule". Even the "A-100" is mentioned in the description so it seems, we are dealing with a brand copying a little bit of text from the competition to cover up their "English" skills maybe? Anyway, the product seems interesting. Featuring both Optical and VGA connection. The remote is the same as the PCH and also ISTAR will be using this remote according to our latest "off the record" information. Back to the HDX player, eSATA and 2 USB2 connections are ready for expanding capacity of hard drives.

Interesting to see is the different main board design so it's not just a default mpeg board stashed in a new casing. The looks is rather "boxy" but not bad. The fact the HDX player is also using the NMT firmware from Syabas, is an advantage and brings even more competition to PoPCorn and ISTAR which are already familiar brands now. Also the TViX certainly has another competitor in this one. There is room for one more and if all goes according to plan, we shall be reviewing the HDX player soon enough...

More info (copied or not) can be found on http://www.hd-1080.com/en but as stated, the fact it is copied, could mean the info is totally wrong and not accurate for the majority. I'm also not sure, they even know they copied even the release dates of PopCorn site and such... Price will be 230$.

Oh yeah, in our efforts to find more info, we registered but cannot login anyway... Some weird Chinese messages popped up on several occasions and since my Chinese is a little "rusty" beyond the standard "ni hao" and "smile" approach i not even understood what went wrong. We'll see what this shall bring in the near future. First impression is however a bit lost already as lacking English skills in maintaining the EN version of the web site, kind of means there are no skills for support in English... We still run it and see what happens in the next few weeks. Maybe we'll be surprised...

More choices, more fun... right?

Thats the same remote from the popcorn?

Is the same company releaseing this and the popcorn?

If so what's the main difference between this the popcorn and istarhd if they are all using NMT firmware?

It's not the same brand. They just use the same OEM remote...
This will lead to al three PopCorn, ISTAR and HDX to use the same remote...

The players are different though concerning hardware but also use the same firmware...
Differences in amount of USB2 connections, eSATA connection, VGA port, optical output
etc...

would there be any sound quality difference between an optical toslink and a RCA SPDIF?

There shouldn't be. They both carry the same digital signal.

Yikes! They have a new website now http://www.hdx1080.com/. They are listing the price at $359 but still have lots of Popcorn Hour references all over the site. Maybe they are just using stuff from the NMT forums? Anyway for the additional cost over the Popcorn Hour you would think that they would have a better site.

Laters,
Jeff

Dear AVS Members,

i am quite surprised as to how words spread fairly quickly on the internet. :)

hdx1080.com is the official website for international sales and support division of HD Digitech (the company behind hdx player).

The list price is it SGD$359 (Singapore Dollars) which loosely convert to US$240 which is our OFFICIAL list price, this is NOT a promotional price as what one of our reseller has mispresented.

Our website is still under testing and constructions, in reality we have not really officially launch our new website yet. We are planning a site launch promotion soon, do register with us to recieve more news.

@eq_shadimar
when you mentioned a lot of popcorn reference, what do you actually meant?

HDX 900 and A-100 basically based on the same platform using NMT middleware provided by Syabas... so the software functionality is basically the same.. hence you will find some similarity.

Hope this clarifies it.... cheers!

No. Pretty much with the exception of the CS615 (AU) and the SageTV Media Extender. There are probably a few others but most are from China.
