I posted this over at the HTPC forum and got no responses- can anyone give me an answer to this...

I've always set the color depth on my video card output to 32 bit but since I am using a Dell 20in digital LCD on my workstation and a Westinghouse LVM47 on my HTPC do I really need any more than 16 bit color? I've heard that LCD's can only do 8 bit... or am I over-simplifying this?

8 bit LCD gives you : 2^8 (Red) * 2^8 (Green) * 2^8 (Blue) = 2^24 colors. 32 bit color depth is in fact 24 bit color with alpha channel. So stick with 32 bit.
