I am ready to upgrade as I currently own a 5 year old Sony VPL-HS10. This has served me well over the years, and in my dedicated theater has been a great performer. But black level, SDE and brightness have always been a problem for me. The brightness not so much since I project onto a Dalite HP screen (106").

But even though the resolution is 1366x768, the fill factor is low enough that on bright scenes I perceive the screen door effect and it makes the image look digital and not film like.

So now I'm looking to upgrade. The two main contenders are the Panny AE2000 and the Epson 1080UP. I'm leaning towards the Epson, but the one thing that has me worried is the possibility of seeing (or even perceiving) SDE at my front row (about 12'). I know the Panny has smooth screen, but I like the fact that the Epson has better contrast and better warranty.

Anyone want to comment on the SDE of the Epson? What is the fill ratio approximately?

Also, if you had to choose right now, which would you pick and why? The Epson or the Panny?

Don't worry - I have big problems with SDE, luckily on the TW2000/1080UB and other 1080p projectors SDE isn't a problem at all. Well, perhaps, if you REALLY sit 12" from the screen as you claim, you might get a problem, but sitting 12' from the screen wouldn't be a problem.

Is the fill factor still about 65% ?

SDE is a NON ISSUE for the Epson...have one, love it! You would have to get maybe 2 feet from the screen to see it FYI.....Plus the epson is MUCH better built than the panny;)

My screen is 139" wide and I can see screen door (at times like on white text, or blocks of the same colour) at 180" (15').

For me as long as I stay at least 1.4 screen widths away it is a non-issue. Inside of that I can see it at times. At 1 screen width (around 12') it is very apparant for me.

I have sharp vision...

I have a Z4 right now and i see cleary the screenshot from my 87 inch at 10 feet. I saw i demo at a store and it's was clearly better

The screenshot from projectorreview show that the 1080ub seem to be better than the Z2000 in that case

Wow, a 139" wide screen - is that 16:9 or scope? If 16:9, that's a 160" diagonal. Very impressive.

Well you're projector have about 1.06M pixel

a 1920x1080 have 2.07pixel so it's almost 2x MORE + with the years the technology just got better..
