I ordered the HD70 from projector people yesterday. It was deal of the day so I went for it. Now i have to figure out how to get it mounted and wired with my finished basement! Anyway, I can't wait!

I ordered the same deal from PP. Hard to pass up at 6 bills. I also ordered a bunch of cables and adapters from Monoprice, just have to figure out what I'm going to do for a receiver and speakers. I may steal my audio setup from the family room (10 years old, but nice quality), now that movie watching will be done in the 'movie room', and put a cheapo HTIB in the family room for daily TV watching. I plan on a DIY ceiling mount, but may buy one depending on how I feel when it comes time to install it... I also picked up a Buttkicker to put under the sofa, and have my eye on Blueray deals (though I think I'll wait on that a few more months unless a really good deal comes along).

For the time being I'm going to project onto a wall (it's a very light gray/greenish right now) until I determine what size screen I want.

This is my first pj, and the whole room is being done on a very tight budget so I'm having to do the usual value/quality decisions. It's main use will be for Friday night movie night with the kids. It is a lot of money and work for 2 hours/week, but I love movie night and our little TV (used to have 27", now 37", still waaay too small) just isn't dramatic enough. As I keep telling my wife, it's for the kids!

Congrats david, your going to love your PJ - there is nothing like watching a movie on a 100" screen

David, monoprice has a decent ceiling projector mount for as little as $16. Maybe not worth doing a DIY one when you can pick one up so cheap.

yeah, I've seen that one on their site. I'm leery of anything that uses ball joints to mechanically keep something from moving. Nothing personal against this mount, I've not heard anything in particular bad about it, it's more of a general mechanical design objection. Maybe all projector mounts are like this, I really don't know.

Seems to me, in my case, I could just mount it to a piece of plywood (screws going through the plywood into the projector), then screw the plywood right to the ceiling. Total cost = the cost of a few screws. I can't see that I'd need any tilting/rotating, and since the HD70 has a large offset and I have 8' ceilings, I think the closer to the ceiling the better. Is this (somewhat obvious, and very basic) idea ever used by folks?

Welcome!

I have a lot of light during the day so I went with a "small" screen 80". But my HD70 is almost 4x bigger then your 42" Plasma, at the same price.

MarioKart with 4 people, each have their own 40" dia 16:9 screen to buzz around the track. :) And it only cost me $40 to replace my screen if someone throws a Wii remote at my screen.

I got in on the PP HD70 deal as well. :D Will be replacing a infocus 4805.

Just wanted to chime in about the monoprice ceiling mount. I went from a DIY to this mount and can say for the money it isn't that bad. Comes with two different section lengths and pretty much once you have it setup you just tighten it down and it stays put.

Oh yeah it looks alot nicer than my old DIY mount as I got black

Good luck with the new projector
