View Full Version : The History Channel HD New Logo
fleetwoodguy79 02-16-08, 05:56 PM Am I the only one who is incredibly annoyed by the new logo? If you haven't seen it yet, flip it on. Some of my favorite shows in HD are upcoming tonight (Engineering Disasters) and yet there is a HUGE, COLORED, TERRIBLE logo on the bottom right. Its so distracting I couldn't even watch the show.
Is this bothering anyone else? I've about given up on this channel, first the squashed/stretched image now a terrible logo that takes away from the show.
kevinivey 02-16-08, 06:03 PM terrible channel

....don't get me started.....
It is even worse than the ugy "Animal Planet HD" one that is really big and positioned in the Upper Right of the screen. Ugh! At least that one is semi-transparent.
nickdawg 02-16-08, 06:17 PM At least it's not in the LEFT corner like NBC!! It's sad. The days of clean, clear HD picture is coming to an end. Great, I get History HD next month.
The new logo for the History channel shows really poor judgment. Please dim the H and get rid of the red underline and HD. But what I hate most is the web link.
vertigo235 02-17-08, 12:27 PM Is the logo stretched? :)
richiephx 02-17-08, 12:54 PM Well, HistoryHD is now added to my do not watch suck list of channels.
AUS1969 02-17-08, 03:07 PM Oh, they probably squash the logo horizontally before they add it to the program and stretch the picture - we can't have a misshapen logo, can we?
Tell them they suck at this link

The logo is added by master control and is not effected by any aspect ratio manipulation going on with the video.

OR the CW one with the lame show plug on top of it...
Anyone want to start an "HD Channel logos we love to hate" thread?
yudaman33 02-18-08, 04:40 AM The new logo is, at best, interesting. However, it isn't anywhere as annoying as the new Animal Planet logo.

That is truly one of the ugliest logos I have ever seen who ever designed that should be fired. It looks like a rough draft sketch that got carried away. It signifies nothing about Animals, Earth, Discovery, etc. Nice to see they actually decided to make transparent the Science Channel Logo, instead of that big bright orange glow that was on the screen at first. Guess they were trying to say look, look we have a new logo for the first couple of weeks of it. Frankly I can do without any logos on any channel. We all know that will not be happening though.
Jim85IROC 02-18-08, 09:47 AM Just so I understand, it's the LOGO that makes it unwatchable for you, not the pathetic aspect ratio?
I could care less what the logo looks like. I just wish they'd correct their aspect ratio. I can't stand watching that network. I usually watch the SD version instead.

I think its that along with the aspect ratio that further annoys people as well. I don't have the channel on my Cable System but its a shame its as poor with the AR issue as people have been highlighting. I do have TBS HD and never watch the channel because of the lack of any HD ontop of the stretching, I can only imagine. I am a huge history buff, heck studied it in college and love the History Channel. I just don't understand why these aspect ratio issues cannot be corrected. I guess we are that powerless because no matter how much we complain about it, the channels continue to broadcast the same way. What does that say.
Hey, at least the logo is smaller than the last one. They're headed in the right direction. I believe the fact that they've already modified the logo after less than 6 months makes me think they're hearing a lot of negative feedback.

The AR problem was almost enough, the new crappy logo IS enough to make me stop watching it.
Such a shame, I really was enjoying The Universe.

We can only hope that is true. Would be nice to know if these channels actually hear our P.O.V. After all the things that seem so obvious to us seems to be the opposite of their actions in most cases.

I just turned on this station and ON MY GOD is that terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The new History logo is bad also. Why is it so hard to make a logo that doesn't look like my 2 1/2 year old son made it?

I agree with you. These stations don't care. Only a few do, and they have posted on here or made changes for the better.
Wow that History HD logo sucks balls!!!!!! Wow the HD red part has to be a huge burn in issue!

No
mdonnelly 02-19-08, 08:52 AM History HD logo is bad. At least the Science Channel HD logo is translucent now, and not that awful yellow square that it was. Maybe History will figure it out too.
machpost 02-19-08, 09:35 AM Can someone post a screen cap, for those of us who don't have History HD?
jefbal99 02-19-08, 09:55 AM http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=102574&stc=1&d=1203432914
very close to this logo off the website, just with HD on the right side
If everyone posting here would take the time to send THC a comment, they would have 20 or so negative responses to that logo. If it bothers you that much send a comment HERE (http://www.history.com/global/feedback/faq.jsp?NetwCode=THC&level_1=nodes_54229&level_2=nodes_54249&level_3=nodes_54386&x=42&y=21#). Change doesn’t come by complaining on AVS, it comes by taking action.
ThumperII 03-15-08, 08:16 PM Why stretch 16x9 programming in HD? I just do not understand it.
And why are the commercials 2x as loud as the normal programming?
I used to think highly of the HC...
Knicks_Fan 03-15-08, 09:03 PM I used to think highly of the HC...
Not anymore!
steady teddy 06-02-08, 09:45 AM I watched Band of Brothers for a good part of Sunday and the logo caused image retention on my Panny plasma. There is a distinct 'history.com' burn in on the lower right of my display. Even the commercial breaks didn't prevent the IR. I'm running the break in DVD and it appears to be imnproving.
jabbathespud 06-10-08, 02:43 AM Tonight's epsiode of 'The Universe' was unsquashed unlike when it was aired previously in December. It's the first time I've ever send the History Channel unsquash a HD program.
Tonight's epsiode of 'The Universe' was unsquashed unlike when it was aired previously in December. It's the first time I've ever send the History Channel unsquash a HD program. For the past six months, the Universe has been squashed about 3/4 of the time. Sometimes the same episode will be squashed one week, only to be re-run unsquashed the next. The same goes for other squashed shows (10,000 B.C., etc.). So keep trying.
draggon_9 05-31-09, 08:05 PM I quit watching because it burned into my new 42" plasma. Now I'm f*****g burned. Maybe I should try suing the *******s.

Did you break in your plasma before watching this channel?
draggon_9 06-01-09, 08:28 AM No, I didn't know about it till it was to late. Since then I have cranked down the settings hoping it will eventually go away. I figured there would be no problem cause the logo isn't there during commercials. Still, the stations are aware of this problem and wont do anything to correct it. I emailed them twice and never got an answer. They just don't care about the consumer and are more worried about their rattings. (Lesson learned).

Hopefully you're burn in issue will improve over time.
And yes, they just don't care. Why they think they need to pound which channel we're watching into our heads with a persistent logo is beyond me. An intermittent translucent logo would accomplish the same thing. While I haven't had a burn in issue with my plasma, I just tend to not watch those channels with bright persistent logos, such as the History channel. Both of us lose because of their logo.
I was looking forward to the wwII in color series but after 10 minutes I had to go to another station. I have a new panny 65" and although I ran through the break-in picture session I was also worried that the garish logo would burn into my eyes.
I might get the series from Netflix but for me, History Channel HD is a network I'll never watch again.
8traxrule 11-21-09, 12:12 AM But they're still happy as long as you keep paying your cable or satellite bill.
