I had the fuse problem some time ago and sent the unit in for repair. When I got it back, it had two light grey spots (about grapefruit sized) appear at the bottom of the screen on very dark/black scenes... but not appearing on normally lit scenes. It looks like a dust blob or something. I have talked to the service department, and they tell me to pack it back up and ship it to them (at my cost... and loss of machine time... last time they had it for 2.5 months). I thoroughly cleaned the outside of the lens to no avail. Any chance I could open it up as if I was going to change the bulb and clean the inside of the lens? I don't want to spend $40 sending it away for a month when I could spend an hour and clean the inside by myself and fix the problem. Any anti-glare coatings or anything else on the inside of the lens I should be fearful of damaging?
Thanks.
Any Infocus gurus out there know if I can?

Personally I would hold off on the repair yourself specially if it is under warranty. ( unless you absolutely have to )
if it wasn't there before the repair but there after you need to get on the phone with Infocus and explain this to them.
Also 2.5 months for a fuse repair seem high ( unacceptable) .I have read many had it back turn around time within ten days for the same fuse issue.
Don't take no for a answer. If the Indians refuse to help demand a supervisor .
Also $40 for shipping is pretty high as well .
I ship to infocus and it runs me $15 to $18.
cheers

Living in Canada has its drawbacks. :(
If it's a dust blob, you'll most likely need to access the DLP chip itself. When dust settles on the DMD, that's when you have problems. Cleaning the inside of the lens probably won't do anything.
Dust blobs on the X1 and 4805 were a common problem and there was lots of info on how to access the sealed DMD chamber and blow the dust off. The INxx series is better sealed and dust problems aren't that common, and I haven't seen any info on how best to do it yourself.
As a side note, I did the procedure of cleaning my 4805's DMD twice, but the blobs kept returning eventually. You may be best served by having InFocus clean out the projector. I would hope they would give the entire inside a good cleaning, minimizing the risk of it happening again anytime soon.
Good luck. :)
P.S. if you do decide to attempt it yourself, let us know how you make out (and let us know how you did it!)
