Reminder that the Kimbo Slice vs. Tank Abbott match is tonight in HD on Showtime's EliteXC program. The HD feed from Showtime looks great so far.
It's like PPV for free if you subscribe to Showtime.
Watch 10 action packed fights with names such as Antonio "Big Foot" Silva, Scott Smith, Yves Edwards, James Thompson, and Florida natives Krazy Horse Bennett and Edson Berto live from the Bank United Center at the University of Miami. Fight card subject to change. The night begins at 7:30pm ET with undercard bouts streamed on ProElite.com before the main events move to Showtime.

The live HD looked decent with no major problems.
The five fights listed were all that aired and no undercards made it to Showtime's first showing.
Since there will be many replays, and the other boxing PPV fight is on right now, I won't divulge any particular details so that others can watch the replays without spoilers. Most fights were determined by KO tonight, so there was a lot of action and fan acceptance.

Fan acceptance? I thought the crowd was worse than usual. Goldberg muttered 'idiots' regarding the booing at least once.
The Abbott v Slice fight was a let down even with low expectations. Abbott's an old man that needs to hang it up. I can't wait to see Slice in the octagon/circle/cage against a guy with a range of skills other than just a banger. Only then will we know if he really deserves to be in an MMA league.

I agree with your comments completely.
My mention of fan acceptance was for the fact that most of the fights were standup brawls that ended with ko's - thus making the crowd generally happy. There were several times the crowd booed, not understanding the reason for in ring events, such as when Ricco asked to check his vision. To the crowd, it appeared he asked to get up and get checked out in the middle of round.
It's not UFC, but was worth the price.

The crowd was really bad in terms of knowing the game. It is hopeful that many casual fans came out to see an event that does not UFC on the marquee. It just shows the drawing power of Kimbo to the public at large.

Speaking of idiots, the real idiots were those other two announcers. If Showtime expects the EliteXC to become competetive with the UFC, they certainly don't need announcers who sound like they work for the WWE. I seriously thought about muting the sound just so I wouldn't have to listen to their mindless overly dramatic observations.
The play by play guy has got to go. The action in the ring is enough without all the extra verbal garbage.

well usually I'd agree but stephen quadros and Mauro are two of the best MMA commentators out there. Sadly together they aren't a terrific team, the best team is Mauro with Bas Rutten on color. If you want bad commentary listen to Mike Goldberg for 5 minutes.

Better yet - let's put Mike and Bill together.
