It's completed, finally! Initially I intended to just focus on DVD-Audios, but there are tons of DualDiscs, DADs, HDADs and now MVI too, so its hirez and/or surround music other than SACDs (see http://www.sa-cd.net for these)

please go along to http://dvd-a.info/

register if you can (allows you to add reviews and new titles) - or just help me rate the releases :)

thanks!

Thanx for doing all that. Very valuable asset. I registered already and will bookmark the site.

a couple of years too late :(

hope there's enough interest (and more importantly, releases) to sustain though

I should add HDDVD / BluRay music titles with Dolby TrueHD / Hirez PCM tracks, if only I knew where to find the info

Nice work, will watch and contribute if I ever have time.

think you could allow the table to sort by format as well?

hi thanks for the suggestion - it wasn't there earlier because it was originally only DVD-As

I will put it in next round of programming edits ;)

Interesting website!

However, I wasn't aware that Björk released all her albums on DVD-A? Aren't those DualDiscs? If I'm wrong and you're right, I'd very much appreciate anyone telling me where I could get those discs.

hi Coren,

I haven't been able to verify the data on most of the discs :(

I've looked for some and if they are available on Amazon I've linked it. There ARE however Bjork DVD-Audios (I've seen a couple of DVD-A versions locally in Singapore - some time back) so I suspect this is a regional thing - for example the Talking Heads reissues are DualDiscs in US and DVD-A + CD in UK, some are available as imports and some not.

I'll change the data if and when I can find them - or since you joined perhaps you could help me with it ;)

To my knowledge, Debut through Homogenic are only available on DD either in the Surrounded box or separately. Vespertine is available as DVDA and I think SACD too. Medulla I think was SACD only. Volta was DTS/Dolby 5.1 only.

Very nicely done SC; the non-SACD formats have needed something like this for a while. I've registered and will help if I can.

Congrats and thanks again!

I really like the setup of your website (i.e., having drop down information about the disc, a place to review the disc, and, if available, a link to buy the disc).

I do have a couple of suggestions about the reviewing setup. It would seem to me that it'd be easier for the reviewer to have specific rating values for each category (i.e., 1-10), instead of a slider bar that has no specific value displayed (the 50% stays constant when I slide the bars). This latter leads to increased subjectivity IMO because it's harder to be consistent from review to review.

Also, with the "Stereo" and "Multichannel" categories, are we supposed to be reviewing the mix, the fidelity, or both? I'd suggest a "N/A" option, in addition to the 1-10 scale so people can submit a review without having to listen to both the stereo and multichannel mixes. For example, before I got my surround sound system installed I exclusively listened to the stereo mixes, but now I can't see any need to go back to plain stereo, so many of my stereo mixes I may never get around to listening to. I could put in some arbitrary value for the stereo mix but that wouldn't be helpful, now would it? ;) :D

JMO,
Josh :)

Josh - thanks, great feedback! I struggled with the ratings bar trying to decide what metrics to use - I hope its not too late to change and incorporate some of the suggestions (probably mess up ratings for the few discs that already have ratings).

You can have 1-10 even with the sliders - I'll have them display in the next round of edits :)

udp - there are two Medullas I found - one DualDisc US release and the onelittleindian UK DVD-A - both updated. I guess the rest are dualdiscs I will get around to updating it

Terrific job! Thanks for taking the time.

Given some of the stratospheric prices people are asking for these discs, one must wonder why certain record companies have not rerun these items. Case in point - Hotel California.

thanks. funny how a weekend of boredom can turn out. Actually i had *real* work but i was distracted and goofing off. :o

the listing was done sometime ago, but the new functionality (detail view, rating, review) was added last weekend. back to work now, tho *sigh* much more fun doing this..

I agree. Metallica Black Album is another one that seems to have a high demand. It is selling for over 3 or 4 times issue price new on Amazon and eBay. The Chicago and Yes releases would be good too!

GREAT site. Thanks. Registered, rated a couple and wrote a review. This is great for those of us who love all mch. Non-SACD needed a site like this. Heck, include the sacd.net links in it so it's all-inclusive. I agree that good multichannel advanced audio codec stuff in uncompressed PCM or TrueHD/DTS HD MA (like Dave Matthews Radio City) ought to be included.

Ted, hi

thanks for the reviews and heads up re: the blu-ray Dave Matthews; I've added it

In fact I added a whole slew of blu-ray discs

Yesterday while i was updating the registry putting in a whole bunch of blu-ray titles with hirez audio, I came across this Celine Dion Live in Vegas (http://dvd-a.info/detail.asp?id=1691&w=Y) disc. Could the ASIN be merely a coincidence?

(for those not familiar with Amazon, the ASIN is a unique ID Amazon uses for its catalog, its in the URL, but you can also look in the Product Details area of the page. I have to wonder if it isn't manually generated, now)

hey SiriuslyCold - what's MVI? maybe another "format" to consider is downloads. itrax, musicgiants etc. I agree with counting out sacd. I'm only interested in pcm!

Terrific job! Thanks for taking the time.

Given some of the stratospheric prices people are asking for these discs, one must wonder why certain record companies have not rerun these items. Case in point - Hotel California.

It could be like the issue surrounding the Traveling Wilburys disks: the artists only authorized the first run (or batch of runs), and the record company could not legally re-issue the disks until everyone (or at least George) agreed. But Roy and George died, so it tangled up a bit with widows, estate lawyers, etc, and eventually the disks saw the light of day again thanks to a remaster by (or at least supervised by) Jeff Lynne.

More likely it is that the original run of x thousand copies languished for the longest time in the record company warehouses, slowly trickling out to retailers, and it is only now after all retail copies have been gobbled up that the three or four dozen copies per year that are really desired are going for such prices. A re-release may only sell a couple thousand copies, maybe only a couple hundred, not worth the time and energy of production run.

I'm gobbling up MC releases of stuff right now that I've seen for years on store shelves or on Amazon because I fear there will be no more production runs and the product will just disappear. Otherwise I might just leave them again for "when I really want it". I mean, I finally broke down and got a copy of Deep Purple's Machine Head because I saw one from a third-party Amazon reseller for what I considered a reasonable price, and thought "now may be the last chance at that price range". I can't believe it took me that long to pick it up - it's a really interesting mix of songs that I've owned on LP and/or cassette for decades.

IMHO,

that's an interesting thought... I will investigate downloads.

MVI is yet another doomed idea IMO - DVD video disc with stereo hirez (and DD 5.1 if any surrround at all) and MP3s. Plus video bits and other things.
