Hi,

I need some help here with my old Panasonic PT-L300u (http://www.projectorcentral.com/panasonic_pt_l300u.htm). Though I bought this projector long ago I have only recently started using it with a HTPC.

The problem I am facing is that whenever I select the PC resolution as 1280 x 720 I get two taskbars on the Vista desktop. Even when I play a DVD the bottom portion of the screen shows some static image about the width of the taskbar.

When I select 1072 x 603 as the resolution then the picture fills the screen fully with no problems.

The projector itself is 720p. It seem to like the 1280x720 better than 1072x603. Do you have any suggestions why I am having problem with 1280x720 resolution?

I am using an ASUS M2A-VM DVI motherboard with 690G Chipset that has an ATI Radeon 1250 onboard video. I am using the onboard video. I have applied all the latest graphics and vista drivers and patches.

1280 x 720 - Please note the duplicate taskbar image at the bottom of the picture.

1072 x 603 The image is fully filled on the projector screen.

Your PJ is not a 1280 X 720. This was taken from the ProjectorCentral link you posted. "The L300U features three 0.7" native widescreen LCD panels in 960x540 resolution. This is the new "1/4 HD" format, so called because the native HDTV 1080i signal of 1920x1080 can be compressed exactly 50% in both the horizontal and vertical dimensions. The advantage is that it yields a particularly clean scaling of HDTV."

Actually it does support 720p as per the spec sheet. Also according to projector central The L300U takes 525i (480i), 625i, 525p (480p), 750p (720p), 1125i (1080i). Color systems include NTSC, NTSC 4.43, PAL, PAL-M, PAL-N, PAL60, and SECAM.

Another interesting that I have noticed just now is that my projector displays the picture mode as Wide768 and Wide600 when set to 1280x720 and 1072x603. Does it give any clue to what could be the problem.

I am beginning to wonder if it is more of a HTPC question than a Projector question. If so, could the moderators please move this thread to the HTPC forum?
