A friend on a gaming site was asking for my advice about a gaming projector in his room. I recommended the HC1500, since he works at Best Buy in Van Nuys, CA and can use his discount. He gets back to me saying that his store is out of stock and that there are no more on order. He says it's a clear sign of the unit being "pushed to clearance" soon. So he'd rather wait for the next model.

You Mitsu owners have any ideas? Was there an announcement made at CES or something about a new model, I dunno, HD2500U or whatever?

The 1500 has been on the market for just over 7 months. It was announced just before Infocomm last year, and only started shipping in late June. The 4900 was announced at Infocomm too, and also shipped in late June, but it's price was much higher back then.

The only thing I can think of is that the 4900 is being priced so aggresivly now that it makes the 1500 redundent for most retailers.

Isnt the HC1500 same as the HD1000, besides 100 lumens extra on hc1500?
HD1000 cam out end of 2006, and basically i think HC1500 was a USA version of that..I think the HC1500 was direct competion with the HD70, which is now slowly gettin discontinued in most stores. There should be a new one on the horizon maybe around Fall...Just speculating.
