Hey guys, we're going to have a theater in the new house, but the wife wants to be able to have some light on (enough to read by) while watching movies, football games, or having company over. I want to do a cinemascope CIH system.

I really love the SmX acoustically transparent curved screen with a masking system...but there's not very much gain on the screen.

For a 150 inch screen, is there a projector that will give me good brightness? I'm thinking the C3X (non 1080p or 1080p)? I'll need that cinemascope lens kit as well.

Thoughts are welcome.

Thanks,

How much ambient light? 150" is decent sized, but should be attainable. You may not be able to use the SMX though, as it really doesn't lend itself to ambient light conditions (I have one).

A lot of what you're trying to attain might be done through good zone lighting design as well...

Do you have the space to do a rear-projection setup? That is the best solution, IMO to controlled ambient lighting. Front-projection will just always look like turds in comparison when you turn the lights on.

That would mean the front speakers have to be at the extremities of the screen, correct?

Not necessarily,

The screen in this room was 12' wide starglass IIRC, but it was sized with the L, R speakers in mind as well. It just depends on where your priorities lie- me personally, I'll sacrifice screen size every time to get the proper balance between video presence and audio presence.
