View Full Version : Is MTV HD Language Censored?
hammerdwn 02-17-08, 09:36 PM So I'm watching Amy Winhouse Live From London and I keep getting what I thought was audio drop-outs. Then I realized when she starts singing the F-me Pumps song, that the drop-outs occur exactly where the F*@! word is supposed to be. I guess that means MTv HD is censoring???
Jim Shaffer 02-17-08, 09:59 PM MHD censors, so I wouldn't be surprised if MTV-HD does too. I wish they'd quit it, it's annoying and stupid.

That show was on MHD instead of MTVHD. Yes, it appears MHD is censoring.
Desert Hawk 02-18-08, 01:24 AM You have to subscribe to HBO or another premium channel if you want to hear strong cuss words.
nickdawg 02-18-08, 01:34 AM Considering the microscopic audience those two channels broadcast to, you'd think they could get away with being uncensored for awhile. Rate it TV-MA.

I've heard the f word on Universal-HD many times. That's not a premium channel, is it?
The FCC can't do anything about it since mhd is on cable.
FX is not that Premium (cousin has it on basic) and see Nip/Tuck, and similar shows not censored, as long as they rate them TV-MA it should be no problem.
ABCTV99 02-18-08, 05:03 PM I'm not sure what MHD's standards and practices are (I assume the same as MTV's) but I have definitely heard the F* bomb on MHD a number of times, particurally from some of the foreign program. I remember the 2006 European Music Awards Justin Timberlake and Snoop were having a cuss off basically on the air and the re-ran in the middle of the day. So I'm not sure what they're deal is. Obviously stuff they re-purpose from VH1, BET, and CMT should be clear to air.
chitchatjf 02-18-08, 07:25 PM Technically between the hours of 10pm and 6am you have can have unedited stuff on BROADCAST TV!
Donald V 02-19-08, 02:11 AM They could at least do a better job if they are going to censor things. They do it with the entire audio track, not just the vocals which makes for a terrible presentation. Also I was disappointed that the Amy Winehouse concert wasn't in DD5.1 either. Lame.
Donald :)
agregjones 02-19-08, 11:44 AM As long as they rate the show appropriately, I could care less what content they have on it.
The FCC should really revisit the idea of the 10pm - 6am window, as well. DVRs are so prevalent now that many households rarely watch live TV. Ratings are there for a reason. If someone chooses to ignore the rating, it's their fault.
I do wish that the guides did a better job of blocking show titles that were inappropriate. It doesn't help much when you set the TV to not show TV-14 or up but still see extremely suggestive titles in the guide. I should be able to find appropriate content for my young daughters without having to explain the words in the guide.
audiomagnate 02-20-08, 04:03 AM I DVR's the Amy Winehouse show. It's censored. I can't believe what a great show she put on for being so obviously high and drunk.
