I have a Sony 60 inch XBR950 Rear Projection LCD tv. The resolution is 720p/1080i. What scaler is best for me for budget of 900-1000 dollars? I want to scale all my components if possible, but mainly for my SD content. Thanks in advance!

there is a new 'home theater scaler pro realta' (google that) made by gefen due out next month, supposedly.
it's to use the realta chip, which 'may' be the 'best' in your price range.
i couldnt find it at gefen website but u can google it.

should do wonders for sd material.

Check out the Lumagen Vision series. Very good VPs for the money.

Can you guys show me how it suppose hook up to my system?

Do I
1. plug all hdmi source (cable box, video game system, bluray) to the A/v reciever,...

2. then plug it into the "Scaler"

3 then from the scaler, use the out hdmi to plug into the tv????

Let me know thanks!

Well tell us what your receiver is and what source components you have. As always, it depends.

when the gefen 'ht pro scaler' comes to market we should:
wait for reviews.
check on what it has for in/outputs.
check on what controls it has.

i hope this one is a winner.

OK Well I have an 805 too, but my configuration will probably be different.

The Lumagen Radiance which can perhaps be acquired for 1K less than MSRP, (Talk to AVS for exact price.) has two HDMI outputs so one can go to the receiver and one to the projector/TV.

In the 1K range VP, it would probably be betst to have your HDMI sources initially go through your 805 and use it to do the HDMI switching to the VP.

I would have the WII go straight to the VP and only send the audio to the reciever.

This will make your switching a bit more tricky, but that is what good remote controls are for. :D

I have the Geffen HD-Mate and I am not the happiest TV viewer. I am waiting for my Radiance next week.

I wouldn’t know what to expect from the Geffen Pro.

If I remember right I have the ps3 and cable box going to my onkyo 805 hdmi inputs on the receiver. Then I have the hdmi out on the onkyo 805 going to the scaler hdmi in. Then the hdmi out on the scaler going to the TV. :)

would it be redundant like HTS on the current/recent generations of full HD Plasma/LCD TV?

I assume you mean a VP. Yes and no. All digital displays have some sort of internal processing. They require this to take the input signal (480i, 1080i, etc...) and convert it to their native display (usually 1280x720p or 1920x1080p). But, depending on the particular display model, this processing may be quite good, or quite bad. In the vast majority of cases, an outboard VP will benefit a display (although again, to what level is hard to say for sure without trying one).
