First, I am curious as to if there are ony folks out there who use this, and if so, if they are happy with it?

Second, at 80 bucks, is this really doing anything proprietary for H/K units, or are there DIY possibilites here? If it is 80 bucks for something proprietary, then so be it. But if it is 80 bucks for 10 dollars worth of parts from your local Frys/RadioShack... anyone know?

It's nothing special. I use Audioplex IR stuff with my HK. They plug into the receiver and work just fine. Now, some of the IR gear can be more expensive than that Remote Eye, but if you catch a good sale on Ebay, they can be cheaper too. Also, you can find a number of different remote sensors. Stand-alone, decora plate, in-wall, in-ceiling, etc.

Some of the other brands may work, too.
