Founded procedure to recovery flash. I will inform if work.


Similar to TFTP method of NTD36.

1) Need PC with IP configured 192.168.1.16
2) TFTP software running with romfs.bin (I do verify if loader.bin is not needed)
3) To start recovery press SETUP and GOTO key on remote control.
4) The LED around Power Button starts blinking when Update is started properly

Now help me, the romfs.bin file is the normal file .pkg that distribuite Novatron for update firmware? or is other type of file?
Can obtain or extract a romfs.bin from romfs-novatron-iamm37-10-1-1-1-106.pkg file?


Hope this information are usefull for who as me have your NTD37 corrupted.
PM me if you what PDF file with instruction and photo.

no wont work they TFTP methode is the same but you need an new loader.bin and the firmware part inside the pkg file calles romfs
you can ask novatron to get it.

Yes I know that is for DVI version only.

I found in old thread of this forum an method to extract romfs.bin from .pkg distribuition with dd and gzip. Was used on previos model NTD35 and NTD36 but I verified that is the same also for pkg firmware of NTD37. In future can be extract either DVI or HDMI version starting from original firmware package.
Interesting instead I don't use any loader.bin, on TFTP I put only romfs.bin and the NTD37 player don't search for this in this method of recovery.

yes you can extract the romfs but not the loader.bin!!! so watch out please you cant use the loader.bin with an hdmi firmware because then you will get problems with the hdmi!!

So now I wan't to go back to 1.1.105.

Unfortunately it didn't help !
I manage put 105 version, but after the flash was ended, the unit start and
then lock with power led on and then didn't accept any command. I restart
the unit several times but nothing help.
So I extract an romfs.bin from 110 and I put it back and now the unit is
back ! (I have to cut the power once) I think I have to wait another update
from Novatron (this may take a while)

I have the hDMI version and I want to go back to 105 version too !
I tried with tftpt method but it didn' work for me !

A simple method to obtain the romfs.bin from any firmware :
1. open the official firmware with winhex (I think any good hexeditor will do)
2. select from begining to 1F 8B characters, delete and save with zip extension for example. So the new file will begin with 1F 8B and will have a zip extension.
Inside this archive you have a file named rompkg_pack_tmp.bin. This is the file you need (renamed to romfs.bin).

I have same problem after firmware update, NTD37 DVI cant start.

there is no way to go back to old firmware when you have installed 1.1.112 :( really bad but my friend who has contact to novatron tolds me that there will be an new firmware next week so i hope this will help you guys

After trying to update NTD37HD to ver. 115 firmware it was hanging at step 3 and now dead :( Has anyone got the required romfs.bin etc. to recover it? I tried the hex edit extract from the .pkg file but the zip is not recognised.

I managed to extract the romfs from the ver. 115 pkg but I still need the loader.bin I think. Also can't get TFTP working from NTD37HD. I tested tftp from another pc and i can connect to the server and download. How do I start the tftp from the ntd37hd? I tried SETUP and GOTO but nothing starts.

For those who might have bricked an NTD37HD; mine has been recovered using help from this forum and a useful guide that I found for TFTP recovery:

I used the hex edit (ultraedit) mentioned above to trim down the pkg from ver. 115 firmware and create the romfs.bin file. I followed the instruction from the link above to fetch romfs.bin from tftp server on my laptop (loader.bin was not needed). They key to kicking this of from the "brick" was to not turn it on before trying the SETUP then GOTO keys on the remote. So I just plugged it in and did SETUP followed by GOTO from the remote. After a few secs the blue light around the standby button started flashing. It too approx. 7 mins to restore the firmware. I now have ver. 115 up and running and can play .mkv files!!

Since then, cannot play divx, cannot connect on HDMI output, etc...

Do you mean that your NTD37HD HDMI is working fine with firmware 115 ?
Downloaded 115 already but whenever I attempt to install I get the message
that this firmware update is not for my machine. I am sure that I downloaded the right version.

It went pretty well, in less than 10 minutes.

I crashed mine after trying to update to version 1.1.1.118. Unfortunately the box restarted but it's like a random key is picked at startup and is always pushed. I tried to downgrade to firmware 1.1.1.115 but the box refused to let me. It kept saying "this is an old firmware version. Upgrade canceled." I have a box with HDMI and Wifi.

Anyway, I tried to flash the box by TFTP. Now I've downloaded twice an old firmware into the box but after a while the box is stuck with the power button light on. And...nothing else.

Can anyone help? I'm wondering if I have a good version of the loader.bin (even if it didn't seem to download this binary file when flashing the device). I can see that some people here have had the same problem and managed to get around the problem.

Hi, I have NTD37L (distributed by WeDigital as FullBlack TFT H264 HDMI) which is like NTD37HD but with LCD and H264.

WeDigital delivered a firmware 115, which disabled the HDMI output :(

I installed Novatron firmware 115 and then 118 but the HDMI seems not coming back.

Please help me finding my HDMI output back, i think coming back to the delivered firmware could help (but cant remind version :/)

I have upgraded the firmware on my NTD37L.This firmware is was bad (Russian!!!) and i have repeat the upgrade with the previous (romfs-novatron-37L-10-4-1-1-125.pkg). Now my NTD37L don' t work. I followed your procedure on the forum. I created romfs.bin, i changed Pc setting with IP 192.168.1.16, i used TFTdesktop using the directory tftboot, i pressed SETUP and then GOTO, but it don't work. I am not very experienced with this problem and i don't speak english very well (i'm italian). So sorry if i have you disturbed, but i have see in forum that you are expert certainly more than me. This concerns my WEDigitial DVI box (NTD37 rev 1.1)

I'm looking for a loader.bin for an NTD37, if anyone could check their archives...

Here's the history:

I decided to use my NTD37 to practice hacking the ulinux.

All was going well, until I flashed the loader.bin file from station - drivers (which was, in fact, a NTD 35 version). That loader disables a lot of the features, and the box wont boot now (not even to load a replacement image from TFTP - the ethernet does not come up)

Looking at this problem as an opportunity, I opened up the box found it had a serial connection and attached a serial adaptor.

So now I have access to the Sigma boot ROM, and I can see from the command help, that I could xmit a new image...if i had one.

I will see if I can manually bootstrap a romfs image, but would prefer to have correct loader.
