View Full Version : Any major new/catalog releases coming out in 2008??
impetigo 02-18-08, 10:22 PM I jumped on the SACD wagon about six months ago and bought some 35+ SACDs in that time, but now, there's nothing left that is already out that I want and I've resorted to buying stuff I would never have bought if it weren't a SACD. Anyone know if ANY good new or catalog releases are coming out this year?
Pink Floyd - WYWH... that would be cool
U2 - Joshua Tree... what a tragic rumor
******... ????
SiriuslyCold 02-18-08, 11:24 PM Jumped? you could just walk on to a wagon thats almost at standstill *LOL*
sorry dude, no idea about new releases check at http://www.highfidelityreview.com/ ?
You can also check the listings at www.acousticsounds.com to see if there are any other discs you're interested in. You can either buy from there, or price shop once you find something of interest.

Is there any news about the Beatles' catalog going online?
I think it's all happening soon. There are contractual things, and you'll find that someone in the loop maybe doesn't want to give what they should give, so it's negotiating. But I think we're kinda set. I think that Apple is set to do their bit. The whole thing is primed, ready to go. There's just maybe sort of one little sticking point left, and I think that's being cleared up as we speak, so it shouldn't be too long. But, you know, you've got to get these things right. You don't want to do something that's as cool as that and in three years time you think, "Oh God, why did we do that?" So it's down to the fine-tuning, but I'm pretty sure it'll be happening next year, 2008.
neil wilkes 02-26-08, 04:08 AM If the Beatles gets a 5.1 release, it is not going to be on SACD.
I believe the delays here could well be down to the US label - columbia (AKA Sony) not wanting to release DVD-A (as the "Love" album was) & the production team not wanting to go to SACD. This has been a common sticking point for a lot of titles.
Damn Sony & their greed is all I can say.

Sorry to inform you this, but the Beatles >>>recordings<<< aren't owned by Sony or any of its affiliated labels. Sony and/or Michael Jackson may own the >>>publishing rights<<< to the Beatles catalog, but neither of them own the actual recordings themselves.

And Sony/Universal do not own any of Bjork's recordings either - but they do distribute them.
They refused to take DVD-A for the "Surrounded" Box Set.
Warner refused SACD.
This is why we got stuck with DVD-V DualDisc.
s2silber 02-26-08, 03:42 PM The question of when/if/how Beatles catalog recordings are released in new formats is between EMI and Apple. As a previous post noted, Sony only controls the use of lyrics and melodies in other media, i.e., publishing rights. They have no say over distribution or engineering of new Beatles recordings.
As to the timing, my guess is that online availability and release of remastered recordings is being held up by Paul's divorce proceedings. He wants all ties severed with Mucca before that goldmine is realized.
oblio98 02-26-08, 05:11 PM "Love" was DVD-A, "Ringo 5.1" is DVD-A, that might be a hint!
However, SACD 5.1 would be fine with me. At least I could make a DVD-A out of them. You can't do it the other way around! :D

You can turn an SACD into a DVD-A? I didn't know that:confused:
Anyway, I'd be happy with just remastered versions of those early 80's CD transfers of the original albums. Can't believe that every other group has updated their catalog except The Beatles.

I meant the CD transfers from the early 80's.:o Would've been nice, though, if they were still making original albums back then.
