Hi,

I have purchased a HDMI-Capture Card form GrassValley: "Pegasus". Via this card I would capture the SDI-Signal from my DVCPRO-MAZ. To convert from SDI into HDMI I would use an AJA-Converter (HI5).

Do you have any experience with it?

Could this device convert YUV SDI into YUV HDMI oder it would be RGB HDMI?

Thank you for your answer.

Istike

I just hooked up my AJA SDI with my Lumagen Radiance and brand new Sim2 C3X 1080, and Theta Compli DVD player with SDI.

Works fine.

My Lumagen info display shows that intake is 480i.

Thanks!

Sounds good. I will buy it... Do you have an alternative device?

Convergent Design has such device not in sortiment.

One more question: I would use the SDI-Output of the converter with a used DVDO VP30.

Do you have any better idea? I wouldn´t like to invest more than € 1000 / USD 1300,- in a proper deinterlacer / scaler. I think, VP30 is still the best one (SDI-Input, ABT-102 for deinterlacing). in this category.

I would need it to monitor my SD-Footage on my full-HD Sharp (22") as well.

Thanks again. Regards,

Istike

I have connected the Hi5 output to the Pegasus input. The Pegasus can capture it.

AJA told me that the Hi5 output is RGB 16-235.

This means there is a color conversion going on internally, correct?

There is very little info on the Aja website but they do say the Hi5 is designed to be used with monitors which I assume means RGB. I believe that SDI from a DVD is encoded YCbCr so hopefully they are doing a color space conversion.

For a scaler which uses YCbCr internally (Lumagen) this would be an extra color space conversion. Done properly I don't imagine it is problem, but maybe Aja is not doing any conversion which is why some Lumagen users don't like the Aja.

Yes, since SDI is YCbCr.

My Lumagen Radiance info shows, when using the AJA SDI converter, that intake from the converter is 480i AND RGB; and then output to my projector as set is 1080p (native rate of my 3 chip DLP) and RGB.
