I am trying to connect a WD MyDVR Expander to my Cablevision Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR and am having some issues. I noticed that the database lists these devices as being compatible, but I always get an error message that says the external recording device is not functioning properly. I have been on technical support with WD, Scientific Atlanta and Cablevision without any success. Is there some trick to making this work?
Cablevision seems to think that the WD MyDVR will not work because it is model number WDG1S5000VN rather than WDG1S5000N (without the "v"). WD thinks this is nonsense because the "VN" model is just an updated version of the "N" model. Has anyone else had this issue?
I purchased my WD from Best Buy and they only stock the "VN" model and I can't seem to find any place that carries the old "N" model.
By the way, I have already exchanged the My DVR Expander once to make sure I didn't get a bad drive or cable and I have tested it on multiple 8300HD boxes.
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!
