JeffSmall 06-07-04, 12:53 AM Has anyone else noticed that the guide ends on Friday? Is there something going on over next weekend that I wasn't aware of? I even unplugged and reset my box...no go...
Just wondering if it's only me...
kevinivey 06-07-04, 06:37 AM No problem here, mine goes through to the 13th.

Well crap. How can I force mine to download the rest of the guide? Mine stops *right* at Thursday night around 10ish, then is completely blank. What on earth?

Email me your home telephone number at twcscnews@twcable.com and I'll have the engineers look at your converter to see if they can find out anything more specific.
It seemed as though the Daytona 500 sped up the negotions to get WIS-DT added to the digital lineup. I was hoping that both the Stanley cup playoffs and the NBA finals would do the same for getting ABC added to our digital lineup in the Florence-Myrtle Beach DMA. No such luck however. You guys in Columbia need to consider yourself fortunate. I guess I can keep on dreaming though.
And what is worse we here in the Florence-Myrtle Beach DMA can not get OTA.
D-rock0030 06-08-04, 01:05 PM I agree, it did seem as though having the Daytona 500 helped get WIS-DT put on TWC. It sure was funny how three days before the race they got a deal worked out, when WIS-DT had been on the air since the previous January. I guess the Daytona 500 is a lot bigger draw than either the NHL or NBA here in S.C.
I was kind of hoping the same thing would happen with ESPN-HD since Monday was their big day for unveiling the new digital studios and sportscenter in HD and them getting rid of stretch-o-vision. But I guess Disney and TWC, the second biggest cable company cant get a deal worked out.
Sammy234 06-09-04, 12:56 PM Hello, I was looking at antenna's and was wondering which of the winegards would be best the PR4400 or the PR8800 for the Irmo area

The 4-Bay Winegard PR4400 should work just fine. In fact, another forum member from the Irmo area reports using one in his attic. The larger and more expensive 8-bay PR8800 would probably be overkill. It would also be more directional than the PR4400 and might prevent you from getting all the towers with one azimuth setting (the WRLK tower is located ~10miles north of the others which are located near Elgin). Not knowing your location though makes that only a guess. In the long run it will come down to your specific location, where and how high you install your antenna, and what obstacles lie in your path to the broadcast towers. If your house is surrounded by trees you might need something on a really tall mast. Trial and error is often the method used to find a successful antenna solution. Also note that attic installations can be very problematic.
Note too that both of these antennas are listed as UHF only and WOLO is VHF on Ch 8 (remaps to 25.x). However, decent high band VHF reception seems to be a bonus feature of most bowtie antennas. Personally, I use a similar Channel Master 3021/4221 4-bay bowtie that I have ground mounted on a 10ft mast. It works fine at 24 to 34 miles from the towers but I also do not have any major problems with obstacles or multipath. I also get WOLO on VHF Ch 8 just fine. Here is a link to a off forum site that did a comparison of various antennas (http://www.hdtvprimer.com/ANTENNAS/comparing.html) including those mentioned here. If you have not seen it already, I have posted some area antenna solutions on my summary page for the Cola area (see the link in my signature). Good luck and please do let us know what works for you!

No, because we do not have Turner South on the line up there.
The problem there is:
We don't have room on Basic Cable for the channel
Turner won't let us put it on Digital
I'm sorry that you will not be able to receive the games.

I don't understand why there is no room on basic cable. There sure are plenty of other useless channels on basic cable here. I would imagine if you polled your subscribers most would rather have Turner South than Oxygen. So I do not understand this reasoning. However I am slowly getting used to this. However, why can we not get the TBS games because we actually do have TBS on basic cable. By the way, any chance of getting ABC any time in the near future or still just negotiating?
DianaTWCSC 06-11-04, 07:06 AM I apologize for the frustration you are experiencing. It is our goal to provide world class customer service in every regard, including lineup, however that is sometimes an impossible goal. What you consider useless is another customers favorite channel. Therefore, it is a cardinal rule in our office to avoid dropping existing channels unless there is no other alternative.
The case for Turner South is as follows:
There has been a very small percentage of customers requesting the service since its launch
As a regional network with sports programming, it is expensive and we have hesitated to place the burden of the channel on a lineup where the demand was so much less than our other service areas.
There is no viable analog solution at this point in time
As far as the TBS games, Turner Networks is providing the Braves Games in HD to us free of charge, so they are within their rights to make the rules. The rule is Turner South on Basic Cable is required to provide games from either service in HD.
I have no updates on the current negotiations with ABC in your area.
chummel 06-11-04, 07:42 AM Hello everyone,
Just returned yesterday from being deployed for 3 months. Can anyone summarize for me the most significant development in local HD since March 5th so I don't have to read 100 pages of posts? I see we don't have ESPN yet but we do have TNT.
Thanks,

DianaTWCSC 06-11-04, 08:41 AM Good Morning,
Time Warner Cable of South Carolina is pleased to announce the addition of MLS games to the programming line-up on INHD. Please be aware, blackouts are required on INHD for MLS games to protect the local distribution market of the teams playing. These games will generally be available on that team’s Regional Sports Network, or team affiliated OTA station (in standard and/or high definition), and/or on MLS DIRECT KICK Sports Package. Blackouts are determined by MLS and the team’s local broadcaster.
Blackouts will be determined and announced several days prior to the game broadcast. Please check local listings for game availability in your area.
And - welcome back chummel - glad your back safe & sound
D-rock0030 06-11-04, 08:53 AM We dont have any MLS teams anywhere near us here in SC do we?
I guess that just shows how much I follow the MLS.

Craig,
Welcome back! Here are some comments and my guess as to what you might have missed:
TNT-HD is (IMO) mostly hohum stretch-o-vision misrepresented upconverts. In other words; save for a few sporting events, it is pretty much forgettable.
ESPN-HD as you mentioned is still no where to be found on TWC.
WIS: HD usually works but not always. They continue to sometimes forget to switch to HD after a SD commercial break. For no known reason, WIS's broadcast of the season finale of Crossing Jordan was a lovely 4:3 upconvert. Still no DD5.1
WLTX: HD generally works too though they often experience HD/SD switching problems. Still no DD5.1
WOLO: HD has been fine.
PBS: HD has been fine.
WACH: no change.
DHDT, both INHD and both HDNET channels: no change.
Other stuff: see what Diana talked about earlier regarding MLS.
TWC SA8000s (both SD and HD) have upgraded firmware that now provides a meter for recording time (bar graph; shows percentage used). DVI is not yet activated (now estimated September I do believe) and analog port (coax and S-Video) work only when used with PIP or for Recording to VCR (which works as a separate function; you can record two shows, watch a third, and send out a fourth to the VCR).
If you want or need Firewire, you can get a SA3250FW (HD box). Requires TWC installation to ensure your TV works properly with it (Emergency Alert System capability must be checked). Note it does not work with the 40K series JVC D-VHS but may be okay with 30k series.
bdenman 06-11-04, 11:37 AM I emailed Dan Orta at WACH the other day to ask about WACH-DT and FOX HD. Here is his response:
"The splicer is not yet installed,or even in house. It is on the schedule
but as to when, I can't tell as yet.. We are still broadcasting as we
were but as time goes by, it will change.. (sort of vague, but all I
have at the present time.)"
I believe their encoder is HD capable and they have the DD decoder on site. So whether or not they will be ready by September is still unknown. I am not sure just how the splicer is used or when required but it apparently is something that the network provides and installs. (my guess is the splicer is needed to pass network HD and/or inserting local stuff into the stream).
D-rock0030 06-11-04, 02:24 PM Does WACH-DT broadcast the 480P Widescreen or is it just a 480i broadcast? They arent on TWC and I dont have an OTA setup. According to a guy named foxeng that posts a lot in the programming forum, all the equipment is being provided by Fox to pass the HD feed. He said that most fox stations will be upgraded by Sept when the main network starts broadcasting in HD. I hope TWC can get a deal worked out by then. Fox is supposed to be doing up to 6 NFL games per week in HD.

Yes to your question on 480p widescreen... WACH-DT Ch48 does broadcast in FOX's 480p widescreen when available. Both Bob Davis and foxeng have posted several times regarding FOX network's efforts in general which give me hope that WACH may be ready to go HD this fall. Of course that does not say when their DT feed will be on TWC.
bdfox18doe 06-11-04, 03:18 PM If they are doing the Widescreen, no reason they should be able to pass the HD.
kevinivey 06-11-04, 03:57 PM You would think, but this is Raycom owned WACH. They never give a straight forward answer to any question that has been posted to them. I recently sent a email as follows: Will WACH be broadcasting in HD in the Fall? Their response was no response. Roll the dice...

I know you will love seeing the Panther's 12weeks out the 16weeks Fox and Wach will broadcast them.:D Wltx hardly ever provided the CBS HD game during the regular season last year. They will likely just mirror their analog station. Diana, the Doppler Radar Channel 811 should be listed as "?", cause there ain't no tellin what you might see, with the exception of an actual weather radar.:D

I'm a Cowboys fan and last year with the rotating double headers and night games and thanksgiving day and CBS getting the broadcast when and AFC team plays at Dallas I got to see probably about 10 or 11 Cowboys games on tv, so that was pretty good. I never watch any panthers games other than the superbowl and their playoff game where they beat my team . Their style of play is just so boring for anybody other than just their fans to watch. Maybe since CBS is supposed to be doing more HD games this year and since our market is an NFC teams area we'll get more HD games on CBS. I do notice that the Panthers are not Fox's highest priority since they get their 5th or 6th best broadcasting team, so they will probably be low on their list for HD unless they are playing a more prestigious team.
Here's hoping the Panthers are on much more than Dallas since they are a far better and more exciting team to watch.
mikepaul 06-12-04, 10:44 PM I was already thinking about dropping the In-HD tier due to lack of interesting stuff, then they list a Porky's double-feature but a baseball game is on instead.
Is there something going to be added soon, to make it worth keeping?...

Honestly I don't have a timeline to add anything else to the HD Tier right now - but when it comes to HD programming, things happen on a faster timetable, so things could change quickly.
The best part of tier programming is all you have to do is call in to turn it off and on - very convenient. If its not what you want now you should absolutely take it off your bill.
Brent Hutto 06-15-04, 12:57 PM I wonder if anyone else had trouble with either WLTX-DT or WIS-DT (via Time Warner) on Sunday evening. We had the Explorer DVR set to record Cold Case at 8:00 and then Law & Order: Criminal Intent at 9:00.
We decided to switch over to the Cold Case at 8:00 and watch it while it was being recorded. The picture was OK but the sound was choppy. No big deal, turns out it was a rerun of an episode we've already seen.
Last night I tried to watch L&O and the recording has like 10 seconds of jumbled pixellation and then ends abruptly (briefly stalling the Explorer box, BTW). So I wonder if maybe there was a problem with the TWC feed on both channels that got worse as the evening progressed. Or maybe it was something on our line, the analog channels have been looking pretty noisy the past few days.
D-rock0030 06-15-04, 01:06 PM I mostly watched the NBA playoffs sunday night in HD on TWC and there was no problems. I did flip back and forth during commercials to both programs you listed and didnt notice any problems, but I was only watching them during the commercials.

I watched Sunday's SFU and noted no problems (as I recall; watched the recorded stream with about a 10 min delay from the live feed). I listened to the analog audio my TV vice the digital out to my A/V receiver. Which feed do you experience your problems with? Did you ever change channels and then back again to see if that helped?
D-rock0030 06-15-04, 04:15 PM "As of Sept. 12, at least 70 Fox affiliates should have the requisite equipment in place, representing about 80 percent coverage of the country, said Jim DeFilippis, VP of television engineering at Fox. The network began the installation in March. All of the 194 Fox affiliates that have made the transition to digital will have the splicing system in place by the end of the year"
Thats a quote from an article with a FOX bigwig about the HD switch over. I'm guessing that WACH wont be included by 9-12-04 since SC represents such a small percentage of the overall population of the US. I read somewhere that according to the US Census Bureau that the Columbia/Lexington "Metropolis" is around the 86th largest population center in the country.
So I guess we'll have to wait till sometime between 9-12 and the end of the year before we can get NFL games in HD. Hopefully it will be done before the World Series so we can see that in HD also. But it all may be moot if TWC is still dragging their feet getting a carriage agreement signed.
D-rock0030 06-16-04, 10:22 AM Did anybody here watch the Braves in HD yesterday? I wanted to check it out see how it looked and what kind of graphics they used, but I totally forgot about it last night.
Mitchell B. 06-16-04, 01:31 PM I tried to watch but all I got, was a screen that said Not Authorized. Called TWC but did'nt get any help. I live in Darlington, but am in the Florence market. I pm Diana, maybe I can get the next game.... Mitch
DianaTWCSC 06-16-04, 04:46 PM Apologizes for the lack of Braves in HD in Florece and Summerville last night. The Engineers have worked on both all afternoon and claim everything is fixed and ready to go for tomorrows 1pm game.
I do not have HD in my office (what's up with that!) - so please if anyone has trouble post right away!
You guys let us "red headed step children" in the Myrtle Beach DMA know how good it looks. We are not afforded the privilege of being able to see any Braves games in HD. But then again we couldn't get the Stanley Cup playoffs in HD, or the NBA finals in HD, and coming soon we will miss Monday night football in HD and I am not sure who has the Super bowl this year but I sure hope it isn't ABC or FOX because we will miss that too.
chummel 06-18-04, 02:17 PM Off topic but does anyone in the local area own a 50" plasma? PM me if you do.
jdjackson 06-20-04, 08:30 AM I'm a Lord of the Rings fan (books and movies) and noticed a news item on another site that WB (Warner Brothers Network) would be showing Fellowship of the Ring in HD this fall in two parts. What's the info about this network in our area on TWC?
kevinivey 06-20-04, 08:55 AM WBHQ channel 63 is our WB affiliate and is available on TWC channel 4. It has been awhile since I talked to anyone at WBHQ (April I thinkl) and I can't say that what I was told was definitive, but then I was told they had no capability or plans for HD. And until they do I doubt TWC will put their DT station on cable. I can attest to the fact that WBHQ does have a signal up and running on Ch 39 that is a simulcast of their analog programming on Ch 63 emanating from their Cola tower. (I have corrected an error for WBHQ on my summary page).
Interestingly, and something I do not fully understand the reasons for nor implications thereof, WBHQ was one of two stations recently admonished (June 10, 2004) for failing to timely construct their DTV facilities (FCC doc here (http://216.239.41.104/search?q=cache:bqoLIJR8-o4J:hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/FCC-04-124A1.pdf+FCC+WBHQ+DTV&hl=en).
Brent Hutto 06-20-04, 09:37 PM So is WIS-DT off the air or is the problem just with Chan. 805 on TWC? I've had a black screen there for the past several days.
My analog channels were so noisy as to be unwatchable this weekend even though all the HD channels came through fine. It would have been nice to watch the golf broadcast upconverted on 805 but instead I had to rig up rabbit ears to catch it off the air. I sure missed being able to pause and then fast-forward through all the fluff pieces NBC insists on inserting into every sports program they broadcast.
I wonder what's wrong they knocks my Road Runner modem off the air and snows up the analog channels but doesn't affect HD? I always thought of HDTV as requiring a stronger signal than the other services...
DianaTWCSC 06-21-04, 06:44 AM Brent Hutto,
Your experiencing a local issue, either neighborhood or house. I looked through my customer records and I can't find your home telephone number. If you pm me with it or send it to twcscnews@twcable.com, I will have a service tech swing by today and check the levels outside your home to narrow it down and see what we need to do next.
bdenman 06-22-04, 10:12 PM FWIW...
It appears both WIS-DT and WOLO-DT (ota and twc) are off the air (including their subchannels) at this time (unknown when it went down)and WLTX-DT switched their color bar pattern off and turned on their weather radar image.
update: 10:30pm.... WIS is back up (ota and cable) but WOLO remains dark. Radar shows Cola is getting hammered with rain as is perhaps Camden. Lots of lightning to the north and NW from our vantage point here.
bdfox18doe 06-23-04, 07:30 AM We're looking into WOLO..Appears there may be a Microwave problem
between the studio on Shakespeare Rd and the tower on Rush Rd..

Can someone tell me if I must use the more expensive one to pick up our Columbia locals?

Trial and error may be the only answer to your last question but there is a good chance that either one will work. WOLO-DT broadcasts on Ch 8 which is VHF (Ch 2-13); the rest of our digitals are on UHF (Ch 14 and above). So you do need an antenna that does both. (keep in mind that most stations remap their DT signal to their analog station number; i.e.; WOLO remaps and shows on your receiver as 25-x)
If the $15 Radio Shack antenna you mentioned is their "UHF Dual HDTV Indoor Antenna" #930-0998 then it might work. This antenna (available usually mail/special order only) is the same as the old Double Bowtie and actually usually works fine for UHF Ch 8. Of course you have to be able to receive the signal otherwise (obstacles and distance are limiting factors). I have one and it works fine at 24 miles. Try it first and see what happens; return it if it fails.
If your talking about the 15-880 then it also may work. It has an amplifier built in (the other does not) that may help/hinder its performance. So if the cheaper fails then try this one.

tritchie 06-25-04, 10:04 AM While I'm thinking about it Bruce, do you have any recommendations for an indoor other than those I asked about that someone would have in stock around town? I'm about 20 miles from downtown (Chapin area) but receive analog over some rabbit ears just fine.
Thanks for any recommendations!
bdenman 06-25-04, 10:11 AM Those are the only ones I am familiar with or have read about that I am most comfortable saying should work. The Zenith Silver Sensor (designed by Interference and sold under several names actually) probably won't as it has lousy VHF performance (no Ch 8). Well, you could use it if you used standard rabbit ears for CH 8 but you probably need a UHF/VHF combiner to make it work. There is always the possiblity that rabbit ears with a loop or bowtie might work too. If your analog signal has lots of ghosts then you may have a problem with multipath (reflections) and thus likely will need a better antenna.
What gives with WIS-DT audio. It appears to be out of sync by about 3 seconds. TV this way is totally unwachable....
bdenman 06-27-04, 09:34 PM About 8:10pm tonight I discovered WLTX-DT was not on the air. Shortly afterwards I noted WOLO-DT was also down. WIS-DT however was on the air so we did have one (out of three) weather-radar broadcasts working while our areas experienced severe thunderstorms (~8:30pm to 9:15pm here in Sumter). I have no idea when these stations went off the air. And it appears Columbia is undergoing a major thunderstorm as I speak and it appears to be headed this way.
update: noted about 10:10pm both WOLO-DT and WLTX-DT had come back on air.
Problem with the SA8000HD.
I have watched quite a bit of HD the last few days, and for some odd reason the SA8000 has developed a lip synch problem. The audio is a fraction of a second ahead of the video, and it changes from a fraction of a second to a second or two. It is really, really annoying.
I see the problem on Discovery HD, and ABC-HD, most recently.
Anyone else seeing this??

I just checked DHDT or ABC and don't see a problem here. Suggest you reboot your box; I suspect it might fix it.
Thx, I'll try a reboot.

kevinivey 07-03-04, 08:34 AM The "Soundstage" presentations on Thursday evenings have been passed by WRLK(PBS) flawlessly. Quite impressive! Thanks WRLK.
The Braves games from Turner South-HD and TBS-HD have been simply stunning. This is by far the best HD image quality I have seen on my set. Thank you ! Time Warner Cable.
JeffSmall 07-04-04, 03:17 AM Here's a quick question:
What's the status with 813 and 814? I live in Myrtle Beach, and thought these were part of the HD tier. I could've sworn I was seeing content on them when I first signed up for the HD tier. I added all the HD channels to my favorites, so that only HD was on the little favorites button, and I added 813 and 814 a while back, but for, oh...say the last couple of weeks, they've just been black. At first I thought it might've had something to do with Braves Games and rights and whatnot, but seriously...there's nothing on either channel...um, ever...
Do those channels even work anymore?
kevinivey 07-04-04, 07:43 AM Not part of the TWC HD tier. 813 used to mirror INHD 1. 813 has been used here and in other areas to show the Braves HD games. 814 is a backup for additonal programming if 813 is being used. The guide however does not list programming, but the Braves HD schedhule can be found on the TWC website.
Will some kind soul tell me all the TWC HD channels, and their Channel Number???
Many thanks in advance,

My wife and I have been staying with my parents since I sold my previous house sooner than expected, they have twcsc. I have fallen in love with the dvr but I can't live without the sunday ticket. thursday southeastern satelite is coming to install my sat and hopefully I will be able to respond about their hd broadcast soon. I bought the hughes HD directv receiver which also has an ota atsc tuner so I will have the local hd channels too. I am very excited about all of this. I am at work today and the guys are at my house today installing my speakers, plasma, and receiver.

Just FYI. I dunno if it's a TW thing (which I'm seriously doubting since it's *just* NBC with the problem).
Oh, and I just turned to the analog NBC...no sync problems at all.
Anyway, I had never seen what's been reported here, but as soon as I saw it I leapt up and ran over here to post...

Yes, sounds like a problem that we have seen before and brought to the attention of Dan Stalnaker at WLTX (Ch Eng). As I recall, the station's encoder has a problem at times and the temp fix is for them to reboot it. Calling the station is all we can do at night; if memory serves call 776-3600, ask for news, and politely ask them to pass along the problem report to Master Control. This has worked at times plus they have done a reboot just before a key program. A permanent fix I think was a new encoder which I thought had been ordered but perhaps not.

It should be fixed. It is the CBS HD receiver which has this problem and NOT WLTX'S equipment. CBS knows that these receivers do this from time to time and are waiting on replacing them anyway.

"In contract negotiations" I dont know what that means... Nuclear reduction treaties between the US and USSR have been negotiated a helluva lot faster than the carriage contracts for one HD channel. I think thats just the TWC corporate line... "We're negotiating" to keep people off their back.

bdenman 07-27-04, 03:35 PM Bob,
Thanks for the update on WOLO-DT. Does this mean that WOLO's weather channel is gone for good or might it TBD?
DianaTWCSC 07-27-04, 03:55 PM Good Afternoon,
Certainly appreciate the kudos from WOLO, as well as the opportunity to provide more quality Digital Programming to our customers. And thanks to Bob for being such a good engineering partner.
Channel 816 is up and running. There will not be any guide information available until tomorrow morning's download, so you have to input 816 to access the channel until it appears on the guide. We also don't have enough room in the Short Description area to call the channel ABS News Now, so it will be noted as ABC-2
One slight tweak. it is not part of the Digital Tier as was stated in the press release (which is a subscription product). ABC-2 is a Digital Channel provided free to all customers who have any variety of Digital/HD Converter (i.e., you don't have to subscribe to the Digital Tier to receive it).
Have a great day

DianaTWCSC 07-28-04, 07:59 AM Bruce - WOLO did not have anything on 816 yet You can still "Enjoy" Dopplar from WIS and WLTX on 806 and 811 respectively. Personally I think ABC is making much better use or their bandwidth with this programming- I'm enjoying it.
bdenman 07-28-04, 08:37 AM Diana,
When I checked yesterday I thought I saw ABC Now programming on TWC's Ch816 though the IGP which, as you said, had no data. We still have 2 local radar channels and ABC now has a 24/7 news channel. Which is fine. I agree ABC's 720p format does handle multicasting better than 1080i. However I still prefer the 1080i format and, being HD centric, want full bitrate HD though that rarely happens. To each their own...

So what's the latest on Olympics broadcast? Will WIS broadcast the opening ceremony in HD or not?

Content on ABC may be part of it. We will see tonight with the NFL game. Since we only have WOLO-DT to see the effects of multicasting via 720p. I will contend that your 480i upcoverted to 720p doesn't look as good as the other 1080i upconverts. I will contend that Wolo's radar is simply better , it has the national weathers service audio transmission along side the video. Multicasting in general is the future for the locals. SCETV is a prime example of what the future will bring. I will be interesting to how the "SEC" games on Wltx-DT will look with the increased bandwidth. The Super Bowl in February was artifact free, but the "SEC" games had numerous banding artifacts.
Wis-DT ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????

Ok, but you don't mention what monitor/stb combination your're using. If your STB is NOT set to(or can't do) native formats, and the monitor won't do 720p native (as with certain Sony's) then either the STB or monitor is cross converting the 720p to 1080i..and with catv and consumer gear, that's not a vaild observation that the picture really isn't as good. It may or may not be better in reality. I'd be interested in what you have to say when WACH gets FOX's 720p on-line., vs ABC vs CBS..

53" Hitachi rptv widescreen with a TWC HD stb. Set to output 720p to the set. My set does a better job converting to 1080i than the stb.
27" 4.3 HDTV direct view crt with internal Ota HD tuner. To be honest on this set they look all the same.
Thank goodness I will be able to see Fox in a digital format via the smaller sets internal tuner. Seems odd that I would have to Wach it on the smaller set to get a better picture.
I pretty sure Dan at Wltx' said his radar was running at 1.5 mbs.
I think there is a HD satellite sport station that also broadcast in 720p.;) I of course can not compare that.

Just watching your HD Football game on WOLO. It looks great! No artifacts that I can see due to compression or lower bitrate. I did notice some vertical jitter in the picture though. The only other noticeable artifacts were from the Blimp camera. When it was on air, the field had several artifacts in it. However, my guess is it is from the microwave feed to the truck since I don't see those same artifacts int he field camera. What bitrate are you running on the HD feed? Is it dynamic or static?

The opening ceremony will not be live for sure - 8pm our time will be 3am in Greece.
I'm talking about 2 separate feeds - SD starts at 8pm, HD (same event) - at 9pm. Stations broadcasting HD will have other programming before 9pm. WIS will start at 8pm...
TechMan 08-10-04, 01:15 AM Hey Bob,
I second Dan's observation, Football game looked great except for the frame jitter.
bdfox18doe 08-10-04, 08:36 AM Thanks. I'll look into the jitter today if there is ABC test time.

Yes I'm interested to see if WIS simply passes the SD signal over on the digital channel. The HD feed from NBC is going to be on a 24 hour tape delay (which sucks) so whatever you watch on WIS analog on Saturday that same thing will be in HD on Sunday. NBC clearly doesnt care about HDTV right now.

Thanks!
Well, I think everyone else has pretty much covered the Olympics for us. Whatever is on the NBC Network feed in HD will be shown on Channel 805.
As far as the US Open, I looked on the CBS website and they don't go out that far yet. If we can use the past as a guide, when CBS broadcast the matches, they will be in HD and we will air that on 810. Now, the bad news. In the past USA provided a simulcast HD feed that we put on our HD Special Events channel. Since NBC now owns USA and Bravo, USA will provide the HD feed to Bravo HD and since we do not have a deal for Bravo HD yet, I SUSPECT, we will not have to option to air these matches on our Special Events in HD channel.
Let the booing and hissing begin.

I'm disappointed to hear about the Bravo HD feed. I was hoping there was some deal in the works for that channel before the Open starts. I was looking forward to seeing the fuzz on the tennis balls for the entire 2 weeks, not just on the weekends. Oh well...

Nucleartiger 08-10-04, 02:52 PM Hello everyone. I am new to AVS but I had a question or tow and also a comment or so to make.
First a question: I have noticed alot recently on the NBC and TNT HD channels that the sound is not matching the people. I am hearing their voice before they even move their lips. I think someone mentioned this earlier but I didn't see any reply or discussion aboutit otherwise. So what is going on with that and is there anything on my end that I can do to fix it or make it better?
2nd question I called in to TWC a couple months ago and was told something about channel 835 and some other HD channel that were coming soon. Has there been a change in this or are they coming and what will they be?
Now a Comment. I watched the Foorball game last night in HD on WOLO and I was very happy with the PQ so thank you for making it look great whoever you are.
Thanks everyone, Danny

I'll ask my headend guys to check on NBC and TNT HD. We do try to stay on top of this issue, although in most cases, when it is a lip sync issue from a broadcaster, it is coming from their end. The cable channel on the other hand... I'll just have to ask them.
Channel 835 - no clue - not anything I put out to customer service, so I can't help you. We typciallyadd HD channels as soon we get the deals signed, rather than on a planned basis a few months out (like we do for regular digital channel launches).

I know this will not do anything to help the way you feel, but the multicasting of the HD Network channels to include other programming is part of the original contracts all Cable Operators sign with Network Affiliates for HD carriage. We did not negotiate new deals to carry doppler radar or convention coverage as they are using the alloted 19.8 in the original contract to provide HD and multicast signals. So its really not compariable to negotiating a deal for carriage of a cable channel in HD.
Not trying to make you any more frustrated with the situation, just saying your comparing apples to oranges.

Diana,
Hey thanks for answering my questions about the channels and lip sync issue. I have another one. Will Fox be broadcasting the NFL in HD or ED (whatever they have other SD) this year. If not when are they supposed to be going to that?
and sorry to beat a dead horse here but I do have to agree with D-rock in that to me "the casual consumer" it looks like TWCSC is dragging their heels on the ESPN-HD issue. I was told back in Late January that ESPN-HD was a "done deal" and then that the negotiations had broken down. So any answers on this would be most appreciated.
Anyway thanks again for answering mine and everyone elses questions on here.

Diana, I've seen this issue to a much greater degree lately on WIS-DT.
I've got the 8000HD DVR and when the sound goes out of sync I hit the rewind button. The sound will be in sync for a short period of time and then the sound will slowly drift off synch again.
I'm sure this must be a WIS issue, but could it also be an issue with my STB?
Nucleartiger 08-11-04, 10:51 AM That was what I was wondering as well Blizz. I have the 8000HD DVR also and pretty much every local channel and TNT's HD feed all have the lip sync problem. Its not every time and just like with you I can sometimes rewind or change channels and get them to sync back up but it is a daily occurence here recently.

FOX football plans - I don't know. I'm not involved with local negotiations so I don't know and haven't heard and I haven't made any sort of investigation towards this issue (probably should have, but busy with other priorities) - however, I'm sure one of the other guys here will know... like maybe Bob?

As an HD consumer I agree - other MSOs have done deals and there is nothing that would make my life as Marketing Director easier and as a Football fan better than to ad ESPN HD. But its not within the control of TWC in South Carolina to do a deal outside the corporate office.
I was told back in Late January that ESPN-HD was a "done deal" and then that the negotiations had broken down. So any answers on this would be most appreciated
I apologize - CSRs are NEVER supposed to say anything is a done deal until they get it in writing with a launch date. The rep spoke out of line and it obviously hurt our image with the consumer - which is why I tell them to NEVER make promises or provide any sort of a guess at a time line - it backfires everytime.
DianaTWCSC 08-11-04, 11:20 AM The guys in the headend are going through all the adjustments on the receivers. They are also calling the networks to make sure things are correct on their end.
I would hold on to your converter until we check everything at our end. I'll post when they are through checking. If you still have issues, then we would recommend a switch out.

Any word on the update that will activate the DVI connector? I just got a new Plasma and I am dying to see how the DVI looks!
Thanks,

kevinivey 08-11-04, 04:16 PM I was in Lancaster today and saw a van painted red, white, and black with a huge Espn-HD banner on the side. On the front doors were small lettering saying Comporium Cable. I guess they get along with Disney. Some other TWC areas have already added Fox. Fox will broadcast some games in HD this fall . I can not confirm that the local (wach) will be HD ready. They rarely if ever answer emails. Not trying to add fuel to the fire, but Espn-HD schedule list Sept. 12 USC v. UGA home game as HD.

Re: WIS sound out-of-sync
They are broadcasting " Law and Order" in HD tonight on their Digital station, and have the audio that matches their audio on their subchannel ,and their analog station. It switched to SD about half way ,and it never switched back.
I just noticed that ER is being broadcast on WIS-DT in DD 5.1!
Way to go, WIS!
kevinivey 08-12-04, 10:53 PM Too bad the video and audio are 2 seconds apart. Audio matches 10-2, and analog 10. Verified ota, and from TWC cable.
mikepaul 08-12-04, 11:07 PM Maybe they are mixing the SD audio with HD video?
In the front room I have a TV using a standard converter, and in the bedroom is the HDTV. Some channels show an obvious lag, so when I'm walking down the hall I hear a joke, then I hear it again a second or so later.
I'm not saying this is what's wrong, but it seems oddly familiar...
kevinivey 08-13-04, 05:45 AM That's not the same thing Mike. If you have a dvr then the audio will not ever be inline with any other cable connection. The dvr is always behind because they buffer video and audio. Wis is using the wrong audio for the video they are showing on Wis-DT. Wis has 2 subchannels alongside there Digital station. TWC does not carry Wis-10-2. It is merely a low bandwidth 4.3 digital duplicate of there analog station. I once questioned the need for this channel at this present time. There response was " we are trying to serve all our customers, not just our HDTV customers". That is the mind set that we are dealing with in relations to Wis. Wis is simply has the least reliable digital broadcast in Columbia.
Well, today Titantv shows an Olympics broadcast on WIS-DT starting at 9pm in HD. Let's hope for the best. If not, I'll switch to D* channel 84...
scruffy7 08-13-04, 01:54 PM i haven't watched WIS-DT in ages because there hasn't been much on this summer that i want to watch and because last time i watched the it audio was so far out of sync with the video it was like watching a badly dubbed foreign film. last night i stumbled across it again to watch the finale of Last Comic Standing and audio and video were all lined up here. i was watching it on TWC 805 on the DVR about 15 minutes behind live. i didn't stick around for the ER repeat, though...

Ummm, well, with both sets playing WIS-SD, buffering is good for a fraction of a second, maybe. I can hear that.
However, WIS-SD and WIS-DT are at least a second, maybe even 1-1/2 seconds apart. Far larger gap.
Now, if DT requires that much extra buffering time, then they need better hard disks in these DVRs...
Dan'sHiPix 08-13-04, 05:41 PM The delay you are seeing between the sd and the dt is due to the analog to digital conversion at WIS. If you waych WLTX Dt and compare it to our sd, you will notice the same delay.
kevinivey 08-13-04, 05:44 PM The digital broadcast is a entirely different stream. None of the local digital broadcast will match their analog counterpart. The dvr is just another time delay.
The opening ceremonies are on a 1 hour delay for HD, it should start up at 9pm ET.
jdjackson 08-14-04, 10:06 AM For those of us asking about TWC and ESPN-HD. There is a thread on the HDTV programming forum "I e-mailed TWC VP" Fred Dressler in which the e-mailer got the response that ESPN would not allow a deal for ESPN-HD without a renewal of all the Disney contracts.
This is probably old news, but for what its worth it explains some of the dealy for ESPN-HD, but does not make it any easier to wait.
kevinivey 08-14-04, 10:52 AM I would love to recommend TWC to my sports buddies, but....
For what its worth, I called WIS last night when they failed to start the HD broadcast. The woman on the phone refused to let me speak with the engineering department, was rude, and insisted that "we are in HD, you are watching the wrong channel". I finally convinced her to let the control room know that they are NOT in HD. They flipped the switch several minutes after that.
Needless to say, today I'm watching D* channel 84 that shows exactly the same, plus with a better quality then WIS OTA - I guess because of the multicasting with 3 channels in total.
kevinivey 08-14-04, 02:55 PM I called once called, and I had a similiar experience. No channel 84 option here. Maybe I should go up on the roof , and turn it toward Augusta.
courier72 08-14-04, 03:33 PM I called WIS last night also shortly around 8:40PM. Apparently, the main switchboard most keep rolling over til someone picks up. As it turns out, Dawn Mercer and Craig Melvin were very eager to check things out for me. They asked how I was viewing the boradcast (OTA or cable) and checked what they were picking up from their TW STB. According to them it was indeed NBC that was delaying the start of the HD feed until 9PM. From what I could tell, I missed nothing. There were some audio glitches, like the announcers diallog being mixed in way to low, but apart from that the show was great. Well, one more gripe... camera coverage didn't seem nearly as much on the HD side as on NTSC.
So how did the TWC NBC HD look ??
And did you get to see the entire opening cereminies???
-- Cain
kevinivey 08-14-04, 07:21 PM Exactly the same as ota. 14mb or less HD video. Motion artifacts similar to SEC football on CBS. Blurry reds ,and encoding artifacts. Nothing like sports or events on HDnet or INHD. 1080i needs more bandwidth than what Wis is allowing. Do they think we really need the duplicate (10-2)? Yes, they think they do. The Braves games that have been shown on the special events channel are by far the best HD I have ever seen on my sets.
I watched some HD Olympics on WISDT and it looked pretty bad wiht blocking and pixellation on almost any motion.
Who do we know at WIS that can switch off that silly radar and give the max bandwidth to the Olympics in HD?? Anyone who posts here perhaps??
How long before MPEG-4 Comes to TV/Cable/Satellite for HD??

The contacts I have for WIS are Barry Ahrendt, Dir of Marketing and Programming and Ken Thayer, Chief of Engineering. Neither gentlemen post here as I recall or even follow this forum (they have been asked). WIS's main phone number is 799-1010 and I believe their email addresses are bahrendt@wistv.comand kthayer@wistv.com respectively.
I agree; the HD is poor. Unfortunately, I am not suprised.
FWIW, I have been out of town for over a week and tonight is the first time I have tuned into HD in some time. The Olympics on WIS was what I tuned in first. I changed the channel less than 15 minutes later.
bdenman 08-15-04, 11:24 PM Just hit me... I think we are @#$%^&*(#!
WIS probably cannot change their bit rate. I believe by FCC rule they have to do a DT simulcast of their analog signal. Since their HD signal is a different broadcast (thanks to NBC's time shifting the Olympics by a day), they have to run both. Also, their third service, the radar channel, probably consumes very little bandwidth (less than their competition uses) so it is doubtful terminating it would be of much help. So, I must conclude we are stuck with their motion artifacts and low PQ during these Olympics. Sad. Still would not hurt to inform WIS management of our low opinion of their broadcast!
kevinivey 08-15-04, 11:31 PM I'll take the extra megabyte here.:D still, it looks a heck of alot better than analog channel 3 on TWC. I cheated and watched a little off the antenna, and it was better, but far from HD. Folks , may soon talk about the good ole' days when the picture was actually clear if someone decided to move fast.:p
I would had loved to compare to the dedicated NBC-HD channels that Wis allowed the Satellite companies to broadcast. Why wasn't TWC allowed to have the direct NBC feed if they were?
Lights out! (-:

The FCC did away with that rule for the Olympics and may do away with it all together. There are no constraints for duplicating your analog shows at this time.

Thanks Dan; I did not know that. That rule has come up before in discussions with WRLK as to why they had to broadcast three services (the third being mandated by the state). So it is possible WIS could improve their HD bitrate if they so chose. Interesting....
kevinivey 08-16-04, 09:02 PM Dan, I hope you and Wltx continue with the extra bandwidth for the upcoming football games! Has anyone seen a local Hd retailer (Best Buy, Tweeter, Circuit City, or Sears , showing the Wis-Dt/ NBC-HD 24 hr. Olympic loop in their stores?

That, and finally fixing that almost 1 second audio lag!
I watch Olympics on D* channel 84 only. So much for NBC worrying about their advertizing dollars. Get the local stations to broadcast HD right, and I will watch it!.
kevinivey 08-17-04, 06:37 AM CBS Sports' NFL HDTV broadcasts will feature the highest definition television format – 1080 lines of picture resolution – along with 5.1 channel digital surround sound. Dan, lets hope that you get the updated eqiupment you need to pass the 5.1 signal this year.
bdenman 08-17-04, 01:03 PM Yesterday I emailed Barry Aherndt about the multicasting of three services and its effect on the HD feed of the Olympics. I requested they consider suspending the simulcast of their analog signal and the weather channel for the Olympic broadcasts. This is his reply I received this morning:
We have decided not to change the bitrate, but we understand that knowledgeable viewers like yourself can perceive a difference. Our subchannels are important to us both in the present and in future applications.
Thanks for your email and your interest in our HD broadcasts.

It saddens me that they put so little importance on Picture Quality when it comes to HDTV. And it makes me wonder who at WIS actually watches HDTV at home. We are fortunate that WLTX and WOLO both have personnel who watch and appreciate HDTV!

The folks on duty are not trained nor expected to deal with the public in general.

NO EXCUSE for that whatsoever. If you EVER get a rude response, you should let the station management know.

This is 100% accurate. This was a part of the FCC's Report and Order of August 4, 2004. However, in the R & O no mention was made specifically of the "Olympics." (The full R & O has not been issued. This fact from the FCC release of the Commission's meeting.) The impact on NBC's election as to programming was, however, the same. No requriement for duplication as to content or time.
"DTV" stations are not required, by FCC Rules, to "duplicate" any of the analog station's transmissions any longer. This can have pros and cons depending on your viewpoint.
Just FYI.
msturkie 08-18-04, 03:18 PM Hello all! Longtime lurker. I read an article yesterday about the Scientific Atlanta 8300 DVR. Very interesting, and I know that you've hinted about it before. Diana, do you have any idea of when these will be available in Columbia? Also, do you need other boxes to watch recorded programs on other TVs, and, if so, will there be an additional charge for each client? Thanks in advance. Almost forgot- any plans for an HD version?
DianaTWCSC 08-18-04, 03:47 PM I do not know when they will be available.
You will need a client converter to watch recorded programs. Since these devices are first and foremost converters with all the inherent benefits of current digital basic converters to which we are adding additional capability, they will cost $9.95 each - which is the current converter cost.

CPanther95 08-20-04, 11:31 AM Is there any chance of WOLO-ABC getting a channel reassignment in the UHF range, or is that a non-issue in Columbia?
bdfox18doe 08-20-04, 11:33 AM We have a choice whether to stay on 8 or move the digital back to Ch25
once analog goes away. TBD..
CPanther95 08-20-04, 11:49 AM Bob, I forgot WOLO was one of your babies. :)
ABC is the only channel that I don't have a backup on OTA, but I've got no shot of picking it up VHF. So it was a selfish inquiry - but didn't know if it has caused any problems down there.

And talking about WACH-DT and HD, I called their Chief Engineer today (Dan Orta; at lunch time.. duh) and then emailed him too and got a very quick email back. Not necessarily good news but not real bad either; here is what he said:
Bruce, Thank you for your interest in WACH DTV. We are capable of
transmitting DTV. The Splicer is scheduled to be integrated into our
system in the very near future, hopefully in time for the up coming
sports season. I have been in touch with FOX as early as yesterday
afternoon and they are making preparations for coming in to don the
necessary work along with my engineers. Thanks for watching WACH!.
Note that their getting OTA with HD is just the first step for many viewers here; there still is no transmission agreement (that we know of) between TWCSC and WACH and that might take awhile to complete.
kevinivey 08-20-04, 06:02 PM Dan, I hope we get the increased bandwidth for the game tonight. Have you installed the equipment to broadcast DD 5.1? I hope we get surprised , tonight!
bdfox18doe 08-20-04, 07:27 PM Hey Dan-
Have some extra Dolby E gear I'll loan you if you'd like until you get yours..

Bruce:
You have got to try this developement in televsion. It is called "Wireless TV." A developement that does not require cable.
Just kidding, but it does work really good for those who care to live on the edge of "new" technology and it does not require any agreements. Just a little Silver Sensor :)
Enjoy the game and best regards.
kevinivey 08-21-04, 07:02 AM The game looked great on Wltx last night. It was an improvement over last year.
chummel 08-21-04, 04:45 PM I know this has already been covered but... I am just now watching some of the Olympics and seeing the pixelization ( I think that is the correct term)
durnig the diving was horrible. Is this due entirely to lower bandwidth?
kevinivey 08-21-04, 05:12 PM Absolutely

Not really. It has been noted in the programming forum that there has been pixelization. With the majority in the swimming and diving events. Fast, small moving obects (water) is very hard to do in Mpeg-2 without pixelization. The source of the problem is the HD feeds in Athens.
TechMan 08-22-04, 12:24 AM Go to Best Buy and look at the Direct TV Feed and you will change your mind about the Olympic feed from Athens. Looks flawless!
kevinivey 08-22-04, 10:28 AM It's a recorded loop from a harddrive server ,and it's not even HD. They do not show DirecTV in their stores.
bdfox18doe 08-22-04, 05:13 PM Having watched quite a bit of the 'lympix here from WCNC-DT, I can see that the compression artifacts here are minimal. While my trained eye can spot subtle artifacts, the only objectionable problems I see occur when the
"wipe" with the Olympic Rings Logo is used.
TechMan 08-23-04, 02:31 AM Sorry Kevin,
Your would be right most days, but your wrong today. Look for the HDTV in the Projection TV section with a sign on top of it that says "LIVE DIRECT TV FEED OF THE OLYMPICS" it's tuned to D* channel 84 with live, true and moderately compressed NBCHD.
kevinivey 08-23-04, 08:01 AM I'll have to check out this moderately compressed NBC-HD DirecTV feed when I am in Best Buy this week. One may consider the DirecTV feed to be moderately compressed at times, but this may be a true exception in this case.
chilley 08-23-04, 12:00 PM Diana,
My father just upgraded to HD in Florence this weekend. While I was visiting him I noticed that he receives INHD and an HD movie channel that I do not receive. He says these channels are free with the HD box. Is this true? Should I be receiving these channels in Columbia? I just wanted to know without calling customer service and feeling stupid.
Corby
DianaTWCSC 08-23-04, 01:24 PM Sounds like he is referring to the promotional offer for HD Tier free for the first 30 days (available to all customers). So, if you can confirm he is looking at channels 830, 831, 840, 841, then he agreed to subscribe to the HD Tier for the first 30 days free. If he is looking at Channel 813, then he is seeing a HD Special event that is a simulcast from IN HD (some HD Special events are provided by the IN HD feed, in which case it is simulcast on both 813 and 830).
If you provide the channel numbers I can tell you for sure what is going on.
But, to answer you question, no IN HD is not Free in Florence and on the Tier in Columbia.
kevinivey 08-23-04, 08:31 PM Picked up a SA3250HD from TWC, and the box has a optical audio out. This was not a feature on my previous SA3250HD. However, this box was DOA, and will have to be switched out. joy, joy:(

Did you call Customer Service and have them send a hit?
kevinivey 08-24-04, 06:26 PM Diana , I called today, and the box was "hit" , and it now operates correctly. I apologize for NOT trying this before posting a negative posting. The CSR was very friendly, and helpful!
DianaTWCSC 08-25-04, 07:11 AM When you picked it up, the Cournter Rep should have given you that tid-bit as a preventative measure. Obviously an area of more educational need on our part. And you, Dear Customer, are always right!
Best news is it works - Yeah!
courier72 08-27-04, 06:18 PM One minor quick I've been noticing recently has been that my 3250HD resets it picture format back to FIXED from my prefered setting, PASSTHROUGH . Not a problem to reset the reset setting :D , but curious as to the reason.
Also is there ever any reason to be concerned about either of the two stat screens attached. The first capture is a config error, the second is a persistent overflow status. Probably means nothing...
BTW, has anyone noticed channel 41 showing twice in the program guide?
kevinivey 08-27-04, 06:50 PM I've got 2 pages of errors on the hd dvr, and have had no problems. I have no problems with the 3250 using the pass through, other than the slowness to change formats.
courier72 08-27-04, 11:40 PM Dotta take back what I said about the double entry... no longer there tonight.
kevinivey 08-28-04, 08:53 PM The audio for tonights NFL game is up and down in volume levels. Could this be the down converting of the DD 5.1 to 2.0? This sound problem shows up ota, and via TWC.
It is not showing DD at all on my receiver but Pro Logic for TWC.
kevinivey 08-28-04, 11:23 PM Gary, the source from WLTX-DT is DD 2.0 ,and then a recevier can matrix the stereo audio to a surround sound format. DD Pro logic, DD Pro Logic II , SRS 5.1, DTS Neo 6, etc.
WLTX does not have the ability to broadcast the CBS Network provided DD 5.1 feed, yet.
TechMan 08-29-04, 02:07 AM I think the 1080i video looked pretty good. Better than last year stuff. Fewer SD cam also.
kevinivey 08-29-04, 07:19 AM Video was indeed suberb.

No such thing as DD Pro logic and DD Pro logic II. false false false
The source for Pro Logic does not have to be digital. Show me the words Dolby Digital Pro Logic on their web site.
kevinivey 08-29-04, 08:58 AM You're are right, I should had said Dolby instead. I also apologize for trying to explain to you that Wltx-DT audio broadcast is in DD 2.0. They do not broadcast in Dolby Prologic.
No one said they broadcast in Prologic. My A/V receiver displays Prologic because the signal is not Dolby Digital 5.1.
bdfox18doe 08-29-04, 12:45 PM Listening here in stereo downmix on my tv from WBTV..audio was all over the place..had a few clix & pops too.
kevinivey 08-29-04, 01:04 PM Thanks, Bob

It is a problem with the downconversion to dolby prologic. CBS uses set ratios to downmix all 5.1 material for 2 channel pro logic. If the audio technician in the truck at the venue does not p[ay attention to his down conversion mix, that is what you get. I have been complaining for two years about that. It affects our analog ch 19 as well. Even if we had the gear for 5.1, the probelm would still be there on the analog side since there is no way to do 5.1 on ch 19.
bdfox18doe 08-29-04, 08:50 PM Dan-
the offer still stands..
kevinivey 08-29-04, 08:50 PM Thanks, Dan.
bdenman 08-30-04, 07:47 AM Dan,
Thanks from here too
DianaTWCSC 08-30-04, 10:34 AM Bruce!!! were you on another trip? I was getting worried!
FYI - Channel 812 comes on again this afternoon for CBS coverage of the Republican National Convention.

Was.. yes
AND
I am on yet another as we speak! :)
jdjackson 08-30-04, 08:24 PM I read in the paper sometime in the not too distant past that TWC was in negotiation with the former owner of BET and new Charlotte NBA franchise to form a regional sports network to compete with College Sports Southeast? I know that the Gamecocks replays will not be shown on TWC because they are on CSS, any news on this possible network?
kevinivey 08-30-04, 10:35 PM Is this HD?
jdjackson 08-31-04, 08:23 AM No, its not HD, so I guess it should be posted in another forum. I just wondered if Diana had any info. The article was in "The State" and it mentioned that CSS was owned by another cable provider (Comcast or Charter) and that TWC wanted to develop its own.
DianaTWCSC 08-31-04, 09:49 AM Hi There,
CSET (Carolina Sports Entertainment Television) is not HD, it will be a Digital Tier service, they are working on getting ACC and SEC games akin to what CSS does. I do not have enough information at this time to tell you if this is Football games or intermual girls field hockey. We haven't talked about it because we simply don't have a lot of information from the service yet.
Oh yeah, it will have Charlotte Bobcats and Sting games but beyond that I don't have a lot of details.
