Thanks for the info. I did a rescan, I just did not go hunting through all the digital channels to find the ones I wanted. I was assuming the just dropped out for a while. The last time I lost them a rescan brought them back at the old channel numbers. I will look through the digital channels to find where they went.

All have disappeared here except two HD clear qam channel. Nothing in the 800's. Still have CBS and ABC. They have always been tuned at 19.1 and 25.1.

edit: found A&E HD, MHD.

Sorry if this question is posted in the wrong place. First time here.

I have a QAM tuner and basic cable (12 channels) through Time Warner. I used my tuner to pick up the following digital stations:

ABC
CBS
A/E HD
Discovery HD
PBS
and several others I don't use.

I cannot pick up NBC or FOX in HD although I was able to find the NBC weather channel on 101.42. I have digitally searched numerous times and have not had any luck. Am I doing this incorrectly or are these stations not available in Columbia? How can I get more HD channels without paying $75 for digital cable?
Thanks in advance for your help.

p.s. I previously used an OTA antenna and received all local channels in HD; however, I mysteriously was unable to pick up any channels about a month ago. I bought two new antennas thinking one of my kids sat on it, but same result with new amplified antennas. thanks.

Here you go colatex...this answers your question perfectly...

Call up TWC and tell them you would like the BROADCAST TIER and a HD receiver.

Currently...I pay the following for HD Cable from TWC...

Broadcast Tier - 12.39
HD DVR PKG - 16.20 - (Does allow you to record two shows at once, whether it's HD or SD)

Total cost - 28.59 + taxes brings it about to 32ish dollars. Definitely NOT 85+

Of course I also get internet service from TWC as well..so the total cost for me is around 76 dollars

The HD receiver is what allows you to recieve the HD channels, NOT the type of package you get from them. They may try to 'fight' you about it (they did with me since they didn't believe me...) but just be persistant in what you want...and you'll be able to get your local HD channels and a DVR function.

The channels that are unlocked to you with a HD unit are...

ABCHD
CBSHD
FOXHD
NBCHD
PBSHD
DiscoveryHD
TNTHD
A&EHD - not really HD...but...
MHD - collaboration between MTV, VH1, and CMT
Special events in HD - which is usually Braves games in HD...which look great, too bad I don't like the Braves...

Hope that helps!

The ACC Tourney is going to be in HD this year on ABC via JP/Lincoln-Financial.

FYI.. WOLO will be carrying "some" but not all of the ACC Tourney games. Those we carry will be provided in HD. Here's the official explanation from shakin' dave in advance:

All games WOLO is not carrying will be on WKTC Ch. 63, TWC Cable Ch. 4.

Thursday night has become one of ABC’s biggest nights with Grey’s Anatomy and our decision was to remain with ABC that night. The Thursday 7pm game is an ESPN game.

Saturday afternoon ABC has its first NASCAR Busch race. This was a difficult programming decision, but taking into consideration that ABC has a new NASCAR package that encompasses almost the entire year the sponsor opportunities and audience potential weighted heavy in our decision not to carry the Saturday ACC games.

The good thing is all the games will be available in the Columbia market.

My new 42" Sharp Aquos 42D62U is connected to an 8300HD via component.

The Sharp can handle everything the box can do, and right now I've got it in Pass Through mode. However, there's an annoying pause while the TV resyncs as it changes between 480i, 720p and 1080i.

Has anyone got enough experience at this to say if the 8300HD should be left at 1080i for everything, or would the way I have it now be best for picture quality?

I have no HDMI plans unless that would give more consistent volume on the HD network stations. Worse on this set than the F38310...

I think they did that because of Bellsouth. They offer a 6 or 7 Mbps connection for around $60/month. Other TWC's around the country price their RR based on the local competition. In the bigger cities they offer more bandwidth for cheaper. Here in Columbia there is no competition except for Bellsouth really.

I recently upgraded to the Turbo RR and it is noticeably faster. On downloads i can get right up to 997 KB/sec, with the standard RR I was getting about 625 KB/sec.

Video looks great, and I only see flickering on the score graphic when watching my plasma. Watching via my HD-ila it looks just fine. Both monitors are set to theater mode which usually smooth things out. I just have a hard time when they keep saying Carolina instead of North Carolina :p

I have a business class RR connection and it was bumped up about 6 months ago to 2 up and 8 down at no extra cost, but business class cost more in the first place. Very stable connection indeed.

If a channel comes in great on one cable box and not another, is it a signal strength problem? Channels 810 and 815 will not show a picture in my living room while coming in fine in the bedroom. These two channels, along with 811, 812, and 816, have not been coming in well lately, but all other channels seem normal. In fact, I went to watch a recorded Lost last night and it was just an hour of messed-up pixels. Is this a signal strength problem, or something else I need to be aware of? Either way, I need to get it fixed before the tournament starts! Thanks in advance.

I was about to ditch Directv for TWCSC. I had been running TWC and D* side by side, and the PQ on TW was MUCH better.

I had the tech out to run all my drops, and now the sub 100 channels look horrible on my big screen. BSG on TW looked awful.

I know it technically is not an HD question, but I was under the impression that all the channels on digital cable in Columbia were digital. I guess the sub 100 channels are still analog, and therefore affected by splitting? Thanks for any insight.

Jim -

Why is it that the more desirable games to this area - for example UNC / E. Kentucky; Winthrop / ND; and the VTech game are all not being shown in HD? My guess is that you want all of the viewing public to see those games, which I understand, but why shaft those with HD sets by only using HD for second tier games? Why not just tie HD and the main CBS together and give up 1 game? I'd venture to guess that most with HD sets would rather watch the prime game that is on your main channel.

oh and another thing that annoys the mess out of me...
Every time CBS switches from one game to another or from a game to the studio, the picture is completely out of focus/blurry when the change is first made.. it usually comes in after about 4-5 secs, but the first few are unwatchable.

What is the deal with this?? Anyone else notice this? I am sure it is a CBS HD thing because I have noticed in the past watching CBS HD football that their cameras will go in and out of focus all the time..

I saw on the previous page two posts about audio dropouts on digital channel 19-1. I have been experiencing the exact same problem here for almost a month. I am using a Dish network 211 receiver. I have contacted Dish tech support and was told that if I am only having problems with one channel, the problem is with the provider...WLTX. I have also contacted WLTX and was told that they are having a hard time trying to track down the issue. If anyone from WLTX posts here, I would like to pass along the info that last night during the NCAA Tournament, I did not have any dropouts, even when the audio swiched from Dolby to stereo. This morning, the dropouts returned and were so bad that their was more silence than audio. I hope this small bit of info helps in resolving the problem and any ideas or help would be appreciated. As much as I disagreed with CBS' handling of the local interest games (most not being in HD) I have to admit, that CBS and WLTX in particular, did a great job of offering the most games at one time. Anyone know why a splitter would kill off a digital channel?

BBC America (141 in Columbia) disappeared a few weeks back, and when I finally called about it I was told that while they'd heard of the issue, it'd take a service call to resolve my version of the problem since it was considered 'fixed'. Of the two 8300HDs in my house, both of which were on different split cables, only the one where the tech undid the splitter now shows the channel. No indication that the tech took this as a sign the signal should be boosted further up the line.

Is there a history of splitters disrupting only SOME digital channels? Any brand that doesn't? The splitter did have an important job...

Thanks for the email concerning the HD signal, I am the Chief Engineer here at WACH and due to transmitter technical problems we have been off this last weekend. We hope to get the parts in ASAP to repair our unit and hope you continue to watch WACH HD.

Does anyone know for sure what channel the Masters will be on via Columbia TWC on Thursday and Friday? I'm going to be out of town and want to record it but no mention in the TWC program guide as of yet. I believe it's going to be on USA-HD but there's no normal channel for that, right?

There is the link to the TV listings page on the Masters Website.
Not sure if there will be any bonus coverage on any of the CBS sub channels or not.

I have yet to see anything show up on their website in the HD Special events page.
The season starts today.

Last season, they started out showing all TBS home games and Turner South Home games in HD on channels 813 and 814.

Later on in the season, all the home games that were on FSN South (channel 31) ended up getting aired in HD on those channels also.

I am hoping that this year all the SportsSouth and FSN Games (ch. 21 & 31) home games get shown in HD as well as the TBS ones.

There is a new TV contract this season and TBS doesn't have near the games that they have had in the past.

Man, it sure would be nice to have someone local like Diana her again..

I forgot that wach was down all weekend and I just assumed that they would fix the problem today.. I guess I was wrong. I recorded a blank channel for almost an hour. Guess I will have to find another way to watch the finale of Prision Break..

You would also think a good PR move would be to have some sort of message on your website, or on the SD channel letting us know that you are working on the problem.

I believe you can watch Prison Break online through fox's website.

Wife and I missed the first 10 minutes or so (until the first commercial break). What we saw was good though, really good.

And to BDavis - I could care less about 24. Never was interested in it. But, I'm sure a lot more people we're pissed about that than they were about Prison Break...

By luck, I noticed that FoxHD was blacked-out and I switched out my Prison Break recording to the SD channel at about 2 minutes into the show. I'd have been ticked had I tuned in at a later time to watch the season finale, only to see an all-black channel. Absolutely atrocious service from FoxHD.

Yeah, I have the HD tier, been watching ESPNHD since it came out. Obviously something needs to tell my box I am a subscriber. The TWC "technical assistant" on the phone keep trying to tell me its not available yet. Guess I'll have to find another approach!!!

So if The Masters is going to be on 945 then I would have to subscribe to the "HD Tier" for $6.95/month to record it, right? I'm pretty sure I wasn't subscribed to that tier last year but I know I recorded/watched the Thursday and Friday coverage. My memory was that it was on one of the WLTX-HD channels or something like that.

Worst case I guess I can subscribe for a month and then cancel. Seems pretty steep for to record three hours of golf on Friday while I'm out of town (playing golf, of course) but it sure would be nice to sit down and watch it before bed time when I get back Friday evening. I suppose it's worth it.

Last year home games were shown in HD on channel 813. tonights game versus the Mets is on TBS, so it should be TBS-HD for tonight. HD tier is not required to tune in this channel. The only thing concerns me is link only list FSN as HD, but again all home games TBS,FSN, or TSN were shown in HD. The Saturday Fox (national) were shown on WACH, and were upconverted widescreen. I hope this helps. I will try to tune in tonight to see what happens. :)

"Time Warner Gets Versus HD Rights
But a spokesman says it's up to each system to add it.
By Phillip Swann

Washington, D.C. (April 9, 2007) -- Time Warner Cable has obtained the rights to broadcast the Versus/Golf channel in High-Definition.

However, Mark Harrad, a Time Warner spokesman, says it's up to the individual Time Warner system whether to add the high-def channel.

Versus/Golf, which is owned by Comcast, carries National Hockey League games and some golf tournaments in HD. The network will broadcast NHL playoff games in high-def.
__________________________________________

____________________________________________

Harrad says he does not know which (if any) local Time Warner systems have added the HD channel.

"We do have the rights to carry Versus in HD," Harrad says. "I do not have information here regarding which divisions have added that to their line-up and which have not at this point in time. It's up to the divisions. Generally, we try to add as much HD programming as possible, but there has to be channels available on the appropriate tier and the channel line-ups differ from division to division."

With the NHL playoffs beginning this week, several Time Warner subscribers have contacted TVPredictions.com asking if the high-def Versus/Golf will be added."

More than likely it's a 'free preview' of the two channels that TWC has neglected to inform us about, lol. Or, if they do inform us, it'll be two weeks after the free preview ends, lol.

Why is it so difficult to add this channel? TWC slaps garbage channels up at a moments notice, but it takes months to add ESPNU? After all this time, TWC corporate is starting to sign distribution agreements (apparently, they now have rights to Versus/Golf HD and National Geographic HD ... where are they?), and then we have to wait for 6 months to actually get ESPNU? One thing that I found that I had some problems with when I had one of the antennas from radio shack last year was my blinds.

The blinds in my house were the old metal/aluminum blinds. My antenna sat on top of my entertainment center right in front of the window.

I was getting terrible signals pointing the antenna towards the towers. Then I had the bright idea to open my blinds and the signal got much better. Then When I actually pulled the blinds up to the top, it was even better.

Just something to think about when troubleshooting..

Anyone else having strange behavior from their 8300? It didn't record American Idol last night, even through it was set to new. When I tried to manually record it, it indicated that there were two recordings already scheduled (American Idol Being one of them).

I've rebooted this AM, so we'll see if it was a one time thing or not.

The 8300HD I picked up for the new HDTV hasn't successfully recorded much of the stuff I've requested a-la-carte. It seems to do OK on the scheduled stuff, but several times (not 100%) I tried for "The Tudors" only to have it say it recorded 4 minutes then not play anything.

Several reboots noted, while the 8300HD in the other room doesn't SEEM to be acting that badly...

i've been having 8300HD issues too. i have The Tudors, The Sopranos and Entourage set to record off the west coast feeds. a couple of weeks ago it started partially recording The Tudors and this past weekend it skipped The Sopranos and Entourage. this week it turned off the record schedule for The Colbert Report.

the other night i walked in the room and i could only get a white screen. i could pull up the recorded list and see that, or the guide or the settings but video was white. i rebooted and got the video back, maybe that will have cleared up some of the other funkiness that was happening...

Well, I double-checked the older 8300HD last night and discovered that my future recordings list had been wiped of everything except Wheel of Fortune, and since I hadn't been watching that set much this week I missed stuff from Sunday night on. I've started putting it back in place but this is damn annoying...

Well, first of all I am sorry to hear about your guys friend. Second of all, I am wondering what you guys think I should do about my TV situation. I currently live behind the VA hospital, off of Garners Ferry and I have Direct TV, I also recently purchased a 50 inch Sony Rear Projection Tv and a pretty nice surround sound system, but have not switched to HD because I love DVR and the HD DVR is around 300 bucks. I want HD, but am in a bind on what to do. Heres the deal, right now I pay about 85 a month and get no HD other than my antenna for locals because Direct TV doesnt have locals in HD now anyways. I called Time Warner and they will buy out my Direct TV contract which is $162, and give me Digital cable with HD, DVR and HBO for $57 a month, so what I want to know is should I switch to Time Warner Cable or stay with Direct TV and get the HD DVR, let me know what you guys think or give me some other ideas. Thanks!

However, the TWC deals seems fair. TWC offers Video on Demand , Start Over for some HD channels. They currently offer more HD than D*. D* has offered a 150 new HD channels by years end. HD Locals do not apear to in the cards for D* locally.

You may have already tried this, but check the settings on your converter. If the audio range is not set to narrow, the sound on any digital channel will be lower.

This debate has been waged on many different AVS forums, both local-interest like this and general interest, without IMHO finite resolution. In some ways it's like the 5 blind men and the elephant parable, because each end user has a slightly different perspective.

I don't think however I would be flamed to say that the 2 main DBS-Sat providers are fairly uniform in technical quality all across the country because all the customers look at the same source, a constellation of geostationary satellites. CATV systems however can vary tremendously from franchise to franchise, even from block to block, depending on a host of different technical design and maintenance issues. Each node or amp in a CATV system feeds only a few dozen to a few hundred users, so if I am happy with my CATV signal a neighbor 2 streets over may be worse off.

TWC and Comcast are the 2 largest multiple-systems operators, and while I 'm sure they have unified corporate guidelines for system performance, the fact is their plants around the country are all a little different in design and degree of maintenance. It is probably unfair then to generalize about TWC or Comcast vs D* or E* technical performance, except perhaps within a very small geographic area.

Having said all that, I will say that in my neighborhood and in my opinion, our CATV feed generally outperforms DBS. A friend and neighbor 3 houses down has E* and a very nice DLP HD set, but after watching a show there on, let's say Discovery-HD, when I come home and put the same show our plasma set, it runs rings around his. Of course it's not an apples-apples comparison, but I feel pretty certain if I could feed his set with my signal, or if I could see his E* on my set, I would feel the same way.

Since you posted in the Columbia SC thread, I assume you are in the greater metro area. Perhaps someone in your neighborhood or subdivsion, if you choose to identify your location that well, can give you some specific "local knowledge" about DBS vs the available CATV provider(s).

Hope that helps...

Mike

For what it's worth, I see no difference between DirecTV HD and TWC HD offerings.

I have a slightly 'better' deal with DirecTV that most don't get because DirecTV is a wedding gift from my father...

So, cost wise, it's a no-brainer for me...

After having TWC HD for 8 months or so...and now DirecTVHD for the past 1-2 months...I have to say I enjoy DirecTV a bit more.

Obviously, it costs less for me (though, might not be the same for anyone else).

PQ wise, I see no difference when comparing the same channels that each provider offers (ESPN1/2HD, DiscoveryHD, TNTHD, etc...). TNT looks 'bad' sometimes, but TNT looked 'bad' on TWC as well...more than likely it's TNT's fault and not the fault of DTV or TWC.

The HR20 DVR mops the floor with SA8500 (or whatever it was). It's easier to use, more streamlined, and more functional of a DVR.

The 'little' things I like most about DTV is that I can remove channels that I don't get, so I don't have to scroll endlessly through spanish channels, ppv channels, etc... as I did with TWC's service. It's a 'small' feature, but one I'm very happy for.

I also heard a rumor from my TV repairman that DTV is updating their guide interface in preperation for their soon-to-be announced/launched video on demand service.

The 'clincher' on DTV for me was that when an antenna is connected to the HR20, those OTA channels are integrated into the guide service as if you were getting those local HD channels straight from the satellite. You can DVR them to death :). of course, you're subject to losing signal depending on your distance from the towers (I'm in Lexington, SC which is about 25-30 miles from the towers). I get a very good signal with an indoor powered antenna.

All in all, I like DTV HD a lot. Might be different for you, who knows....

I'm a total noob so forgive me for posting a question as a reply......

I have VERY basic cable from TW (12 or 13 channels), but I have an ATSC/NTSC tuner in my tv. I can switch between regular cable and digital channels via my remote. I have done a digital search for local HD channels and have pulled up ABC, CBS, PBS, and a few others, but I have yet to locate NBC or FOX. Isn't TW supposed to supply these local HD channels for free since I'm a cable subscriber? In addition, I was receiving TNT in HD and Discovery HD Theater but these have disappeared.

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

No, Tv stations don't "increase" their power. They stay at relatively constant power output, only if there are problems do they end up at reduced power.

It's simply atmospheric conditions being good enough for you to receive WIS.

Hello,

Complete and utter HD noob here.

The last set I purchased was a 27" Sony Trinitron in 1996. That set gave up the ghost prematurely(I was hoping to make it to Feb 2009) this past Friday and I went looking for a new TV. Not being very up to date on the new tech and having only 11 channels of basic cable but having a rather extensive DVD collection and a Nintendo Wii I went for the best looking set that had a case dimension no larger than 37 1/2" so as to not have to replace my entertainment center.

I wound up with the Samsung TX-T3093WH and promptly began to look up info about it which led me here. An email from Best Buy mentioned something about an HD antenna to receive HD channels for free.

As this thread is 266 pages long as of now, I will begin perusing it but if anyone would feel like helping me out with a minor explanation or pointing me to the correct post to read I would be much appreciative.

I have made the assumption that I am in the correct thread for my question as I live in the Columbia area and am wondering if I can expand my available channels beyond the 11 currently being picked up.

They keep starting the process of repairing the problem over and over after the first visit determent it to be an issue on their side of the line. Each time trying to barge into my house when it not needed and blaming me for the problem. Dish may go out in the rain, but cables old amplifiers are failing in the heat of the day causing channel and internet connection loss. After about an hour the Rep called me back and said she got the answer from engineering. What she did (while I was watching a digital channel) was switch off the digital tier to my house, and then she reapplied/reset the digital tier. That immediately solved the problem. Off-and-on over the last 6 months, I've had blank channels instead of some of the Flix channels and one Cinemax channel. I had a tech come by once, and when he removed a splitter I was using to feed the cable box and a VCR, the channels started coming through to that box but not to another one. Left with it being MY problem, despite it working all along up until then, I was not happy.

Fortunately, they were apparently called to fix someone else's problem up the line somewhere and the channels came back. Probably an amplifier that failed to provide me with enough of a signal to let it work split.

So if you ask TWC for help, and you aren't sitting right on top of the bad amplifier or whatever, it will probably go misdiagnosed until they finally stumble across the solution.

Bitter feelings? Nah...

FCC is coming , do you know where your digital broadcast is?

jtbell
08-02-07, 08:53 PM
WZRB (MyNetwork) won't be sending a digital signal before analog shutdown because they don't even have a second channel for digital. I think they started up after the FCC handed out the current digital channels at the beginning of the transition process. They're supposed to convert from analog to digital on channel 47 when the time comes.

As far as I know, WKTC (CW) is supposed to increase their digital signal from 0.7 kW (!) to 500 kW when they move to a new transmitter closer to Columbia. I have no idea what kind of progress they're making on that new transmitter, though.

Big Ten Network

Has anyone heard anything about Time Warner adding the Big Ten Network? I've heard the only provider offering it so far is D*. I emailed TWCSC and of course got a canned reponse basically saying a national agreement could not be made until the BTN had reached a national agreement with D*. The email provided me with some links to follow for more information on the channel, and wouldn't you know it, the first link was to an article stating the BTN has reached an agreement with D*. I responded by pointing out that their canned response must be a little old because the agreement had been reached, and then asked when they planned to add the BTN. No response back yet, but I'm not holding my breath.

In the past I've subscribed to Gameplan for the football season, but the Big Ten won't have any more games on it. Any of the smaller games not on national TV I won't get to see.

Has anyone heard anything?

As one who lived in the BT footprint for 40 years I have used ESPN Game Plan for the last several years to keep up with the football I care about. This fall GP will not carry any Big Ten games unless the Big Ten team is away and the team they are playing is televised by an ESPN provider. Those games will be very few, maybe 2 or 3 all season. So I will no longer buy GP.

The BTN has effectively taken the BT away from us. I really don't understand it. We will see games on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 but BTN has a pick too so a game like UM/OSU would be on ABC but UM/MSU for example might be on the BTN.

IF TW carries it in this are we still have another problem. The first Saturday the BTN will show 4 games on a regional basis in the Big Ten footprint. In this area IF we have the BTN we would get one of those and not be able to get the other 3 at all.

The only real choice at this point is a dish, I cannot have one where I live so -- no luck! With Directv you will get all the games the BTN shows.

The BTN in Chicago told me when I called to talk to them -- just go to a sports bar and watch it there. I am sure that will work if SC or Clemson is playing at the same time. I also have about $5000 worth of TV equipment that they want me to leave to go to a smoky sports bar and not be able to see the game I want.

If you want to keep up I have used Google NEWS and typed in Big Ten Network.

These sites are pretty good about what game is on what network.

Is anyone else having problems with ESPN2HD??
Mine on TWC has been horrible for about a week. It has been unwatchable with major pixelation..

Yes, me too. In fact, right now all I see is a channel unavailable message. I'm on hold with TWC as I type.

Update - after an hour of rebooting, powering off and on, the rep sending hit signals, a tech is coming tomorrow sometime between 8am and 8pm lol too funny. Anyway, I guess it is just me but I have several HD channels that say "No available and try back later" Also, Discovery is unwatchable due to pix. Sorry, I thought maybe it was more widespread.

kjpjr - thanks for the helpful post. Like you, I've subscribed to Gameplan the past few seasons to see the games I'm interested in. It appears as though even if TW reaches an agreement with the BTN we won't see those regional games if there are multiple ones on simultaneously. Also, like you, I'd be stuck leaving my home to find a place that is broadcasting the game I want to see. I'd much rather be kicking back in my living room to watch it, enjoying my entertainment setup. There will still be a lot of games on ABC/ESPN, but I can think of a few instances during the first half of the season where the game I want to see would be on the BTN.

4runner,
I am now having the same problems. I have 5 or 6 HD channels that are not coming in at all now and say channel unavailable. This is rediculous.
4 days before they can send someone out... 8 am to 8pm..
Screw that, time to switch..

Try rebooting the box, unplug it for a minute and plug it back in. I was having the same problem and TW finally agreed it was a head end problem. I called a friend who live about 12 miles from me and he was having the same problem.

So, does anyone have any update from TWC regarding new HD channels? DirectTV and Dish are both announcing a bunch of channels, but its more of a "I'll believe it when I see it."

I'm pretty happy with TWC, (well, I would love to get the long promised DVR upgrade to Navigator), but if I can get something better from Direct TV, I'll switch.

Sorry, I forgot to post my results. This is for "Channel Unavailable" (even though you should be receiving it" as well as some pixel issues on other channels. My signal from the main feed was bad. The tech made it sound like my SA8300 was trying to correct this issue and when it couldn’t for a particular channel, it would display the “Channel Unavailable” message. Other channels are apparently unaffected. Also, on the channels that it could correct, but not all the way, I’m getting the pixel issue. So, he placed a work order for the “Line Crew” and they are supposed to track down the issue and correct. No idea when they are coming and I get no notification. If I’m still having the problem next week, I just call TWC and ask if the work has been completed or not. How is that for service? Lol

Oh yea, my ESPN2HD comes and goes. Sometimes I get the channel unavailable message and others it is pixel issue. Discovery is good again. Weird. I’ll post resolution later.

Drop the TWC DVR and get TiVo. Man, the only reason I switched from DTV to TWC is for locals in HD (not offered by DTV). I thought I could live with the TWC DVR but coming from the DTV with TiVo, no way. Switched out those boxes last week or so. Nice to have TiVo back!

from cruising this thread, is it safe to say that a QAM tuner is near useless for TWCSC? Seems like folks aren't receiving anything.

I can get two HD locals, but that's about it. They are used to be clear last year.

Sounds like there are a lot of people having issues with their HD channels.
I had a buddy e-mail today asking me what was up with TWC and the HD channels.

All this started when the temperature got hot last week..

In my case, my neighbor is fine. We tested it the other day. I would get the dreaded "Channel Unavailable" for ESPN2HD and he was fine. I was fine til we hit those 100+ degree days as well....not sure if that played a factor or not.

Now I’m starting to wonder about my issue…the tech stated the problem was with the feed signal off the main line (not sure what the proper term is), so it wasn't anything within my house; however, my neighbor is fine and both our lines are running from the same point. I wonder how he is getting a good signal and mine is problematic? Just have to wait and see if things clear up for me next
week.

I'd love to, but I had issues getting my locals from Direct TV as well. Even with an OTA antenna I never had any luck consistently. Since the majority of TV we watch is network based, it made no sense to have a fancy HDTV and not be able to watch in HD. Thats the entire reason we switched to TWC to begin with.

If DTV said that locals would be available tomorrow, I'd probably switch back. I hate having to pay an extra $10 a month for two TVs that are rarely used, but its nice to have them when we need them.

Can we get some postings of what HD channels the cable card users are receiving? I just upgraded to a TiVo HD and am trying to get my HD channels straightened out with TWC.

Right now I can get:
ABC
NBC
CBS
Fox
ETV
TNT
Discovery
ESPN
HDNet
HDNet Movies

I have a tech coming Friday to see why I cannot get:
A&E
ESPN2
MOJO
Universal HD
Golf/Versus
MHD

At first I was only getting ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, ETV. The first tech added the HD Tier and it freed up some of the channels. I did not necessarily want the HD Tier, I just wanted the free HD channels. For now I am leaving it until we can get things straight since it is helping. Now if they would just get multi-stream cards I would be in good shape. As a side note, anyone else have problems with a cable card installed in the TV wiping out the user settings (brightness, picture, color) of that TV every few days?

They are probably are Switched Digital Video channels which you will not be able to get as explained in the table on this (http://www.timewarnercable.com/SouthCarolina/products/CableCard.html) page.

All but MOJO ARE Switched Digital. Cannot be viewed with a Cablecard TV or TIVO. Reading the postings from TIVO owners on another Forum, it is questionable whether I would consider TIVO an upgrade now. I had considered buying one until I read some of the stories at the link below. Good luck with it. ;)

That is weird, because the channels that you listed as not being able to get, are the ones that I can not get to come in on my 8300.. These are the "Channel Unavaliable" channels.

The ones that you say you can get are the ones I get also

Using the diagnostic screens on my converter, MOJO comes up on 603MHz. All the channels I cannot get on my Cablecard set come up between 723 and 765 on the HD converter, ESPN2HD, UniversalHD, MHD, as well as the MLB channels. It appears to me the regular digital and HD channels are on the lower frequencies. Not guaranteeing my speculations are correct, just seems to work out that way and I have not found any channels I can't get on the card show up below 723.

Not sure what you have going on there. I have also seen the channel not available screen, but it has gone away on it's own. There have been times it has gone away when I switched off the channel and back but there have been other times it has been on a particular channel for a few hours. I would think if you are seeing this all the time, you need to call TW and get it checked out.
