Crazywoody 11-02-09, 09:07 AM Sorry to jump into you guys thread but we just got Navigator here in Greensboro NC. Boy is it a big improvement over SARA. The con's are it's a bit slower than SARA, we lost the copy to vcr or dvd burner feature. The pro's are huge. First we now have multible bookmarks that you do not lose if tv turns off or someone starts a new recorded shows. So far I got 8 shows bookmarked and all work great. We got the TIVO jump back feature when rewinding it works great. Great news we finially have a true series manager that you can set priorties with and it works great. Also if you have a conflit Navigator will look for a later showing and auto record it. We have a TIVO like 28 day rule that if Navigator has recorded a show it will not record it againfor 24 to 28 days without being told to do so. Shows with improper guide data such as NFL live or news shows on FOX and CNN and Daily show or exceptions. However for this we still have time slot recording. The search engine and theme search blows sara away. Very tivo or passport like. I hear keyword search will be added in next couple of updates. To advance to another day just hit 1 on the keypad and then the right button on the control. I was watching Panthers football yesterday hit 7 and advance and wow was watching what would be on next sunday while watching this sunday. Could ever do that with sara. All in all except for being a bit slower its a big improvement. Also my Navigator is very stable. In the two weeks I have had it I have had no missed recordings or reboot. Guess most stability problems have now been solved. I was not loking forward to Navigator but now I say where have you been. I used to have passport at a small beach cabin I owned and Navigator is now very close to that. Hopes ths helps guys. Don't be afraid. If it works as well for yo as it does for me you will love it. The biggest drawback is learning to use it. TWC does have answeres on demand back that helps. Once you master it I tink you will all be pleased. Oh yea you can still start from beginning while recording without being kicked out. Cheers all.
mikepaul 11-02-09, 03:27 PM So, was Copy To VCR deleted recently or was it never available on Navigator? I sure hope the S-video port still works for the manual workaround...
jrolin1 11-04-09, 12:50 PM I am envious Woody. I hope to have it soon.
neverthesheep 11-05-09, 05:19 AM dvd burner feature? the only feature i ever saw was the record to vcr feature
Crazywoody 11-05-09, 11:52 AM dvd burner feature? the only feature i ever saw was the record to vcr feature
The copy to vcr function worked if connected to dvd burner instead of a vcr. Made perfect copys. It was never a feature in Navigator but I hear it is to be added as a new feature in a future update. Cheers

Good! While I can capture while just playing back, Copy To VCR let me turn off the DVR while it did its thing...
sheppardwk 11-07-09, 03:48 PM Why is channel 951 (ESPN2 HD) broadcasting the same as 953 (ESPN NEWS HD)?
ESPN2 HD should be broadcasting the Penn State vs. Ohio State game. On channel 27, the game is on, but not on 951. Second weekend in a row that Time Warner or ESPN has messed it up.
Is anyone else seeing green bars and a little bit of green tiling just below the bars across the top of the screen on WIS-HD during the SEC Network games? I've noticed this on every game that I can recall this season including Saturday's USC at Arkansas game. It happens throughout except when WIS goes to local commercials so it's definitely something originating from the network side.
I'm on TWC in Lexington using an 8300HDC STB and a Samsung HD set.

Yep, I saw it as well. Wasn't happening on any other channels.
Crazywoody 11-13-09, 11:12 AM Hi guys. Here I am butting into your forum again. Wanted to give you a update on Navigator. The cons first- 1- In the show list useing series manager it is slow but useable. 2- Miss my copy to vcr option but I hear from TWC that it's comeing back. Now the Pros. 1- It has been as stable as SARA. In for weeks not one reboot or missed recording. 2- Loads of new features we always wanted in SARA such as being able to delete one show without deleateing the entire series. 2- multible bookmarks that you do not lose if box is turned off or another recorded show started. 3- able to put you favorite channels first in the guide ( ODN version only I hear) Great search engine that is only going to get better in future updates. Able to control length the banner appers on th screen. While useing guide say you are on channel 3 and want to see channel 150. Instead of scrolling just key in 150 and guide jumps to that channel. Great progamming control. If Navigator records a new show or repeat once ( with the proper episode information in the discription it will not record it again without being asked to for 28 days. Exceptions to this rule or shows with out proper episode guide data such as The Daily Show, News shows ect. For tHis Navigator GIVES YOU TIME SLOT RECORDING AND LETS YOU CHOOSE NEW SHOWS OR ALL EPISODES. Sorry for the caps hit caps key while typeing.. Just take time and explore Navigator there or many many new features. TWC does a very poor job telling you what they are but they are there. Like I say the speed in showlist and series manager needs to improve but besides that it is a very modern and stable guide. I hear the new Samsung boxes will be faster but they are not availble here due to some early bugs in them . Hope this helps guys CHEERS.
jrolin1 11-13-09, 01:14 PM Thanks Woody. I am patiently waiting.. Sara needs to go.
I now have N on my non DVR HD box and it is sloooooooooooooow! Besides that the volume control does not work either on the remote or the cable box. It can be mute or at full volume, no way to adjust it. Hopefully when my DVR gets N it will work! I did go to live chat a few minutes ago and they are going to have a tech guy here between 8 - 10 in the morning so I got that going for me!
We shall see if he/she can fix it! Saturday is a day when we use both sets a lot. I love football and my wife does not so they both get a workout on Saturday and Sunday. :(

If you have one of those old Pioneer boxes Navigator is very slow on those due to a lack of memory. The new Samsung non dvr boxes if you can get one are a lot faster. My 8240hdc runs navigator very well but it.s a newer box. You can reprogram your control to handle the volume on Navigator. The TWC tech will probably do it for you. Cheers
all the tech guy did is get me sound that I can control but told me my external speakers probably will not work with navigator. SARA where did you go?
LexHiDef 11-14-09, 08:41 PM all the tech guy did is get me sound that I can control but told me my external speakers probably will not work with navigator. SARA where did you go?
Speakers won't work? Are you kidding? What kind of "improvement" is that? Ridiculous.
Crazywoody 11-14-09, 10:02 PM That is total BS what he told you. I have a surround sound system hooked up with NAVIGATOR and all my speakers work perfect. You need to get another TWC tech out to your house or someone who knows what that are doing. My brother in law hooked mine up and they I mean all 4 of my speakers work perfect and in perfect sync. That tech just blew you off. What he told you is absolutely 100% not true. CHEERS
I now agree, my speakers do work. I worked on it last night and it is now working fine. That said, Navigator sucks BIG TIME! I change my favorite channels all the time, I am a sports fan so on Saturday I will load them up at noon with those games and then change them as the days goes along. That was very easy to do in SARA, a pain in Navigator. I could go on but you get the idea.
I was able to fix my speakers by going to our other set and seeing what the settings where and doing that to the Navigator set and all worked fine. Seems a tech should know what to do?
PHRoberts 11-15-09, 06:09 PM Does anyone know what happened to the HD on WACH for the Cowboys/Packers game? It flipped over to SD early in the 1st quarter and is still that way in the 3rd. I'm watching on TWC.
Thanks!

I have noticed that on several games this year on the SEC Network too - something with their feed.

One easy solution to your sports problem is to ht the access button go to sports now and switch between any current games you wish. It works great for me. Hope this helps. CHEERS
jrolin1 11-17-09, 06:39 AM I have been gatored! It is about time. So far it looks much better than SARA.
Wow !! Huge difference this morning on my TWC DVR software !!
Is there a post or thread about the new features, and so forth ??

Yep. It is called Navigator. I have been waiting on it for a while. SARA was the old software. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=723830
mikepaul 11-17-09, 03:34 PM So maybe Passport is the one I disliked. I guess I'll have to hope for the best...
wdbarnum 11-17-09, 06:43 PM I have the SA 8300HD box from TWC and a Western Digital expansion 500 GB Hard Drive, all was well, we had a bunch of shows recorded from when we were on vacation - like 20 shows - come the conversion to Navagator and now they are all listed (with the exception of The Good Wife from 10/13) as not been able to be recorded - which I know is not true, since I had watched a few shows that my wife had not watched and they were good to go before the conversion to Navagator.
There are a bunch of things missing on the new system - and yes I have rebooted it.
My opinion - I will convert to U-Verse and drop TWC!
I will convert to U-Verse and drop TWC!
Yes we were all waiting to see what you were going to do.
The only thing worse for me is I used to FF 3 times then Skip Back 3 times to get right at the end of commercials. Doesn't seem to work now but overall much improvement.
TechMan 11-18-09, 04:00 AM My external drive on the E-sata port got screwed up too. The new software must be using a new copy protection system. I lost the show but it gave me the DVR function back.

It has an automatic skip back now that I had to get used to. Makes FFing and then stopping a little less precise for me, but oh well.

Tivo also has the skip back after ff. When I had tivo I got used to waiting to see the show to hit play and got the timing down perfect after using it awhile. Once you get used to it on the TWC DVR you may like it better. I know I do.
IrmoGamecoq 11-18-09, 10:13 AM Thanks, I got used to it pretty quickly last night...
Does anyone know how to quickly return back to the currently viewed channel when surfing the program guide? It used to be that if you were watching, say, ch 805 and then pulled up the guide and surfed down to 950, all you had to was press "C" on the remote and it would bring you back up to 805. This doesn't work in Navigator.

Ah. I'm starting to get the hang of it but trying to hit the play button at the right time is raising my blood pressure.

If I understand your question correctly do the following. To return to the last live viewing hit the last button. If you are inthe guide on channel 150 and want to go to say channel 40 all you do is type in 40 and it takes you right to that guide channel. Another trick is if you are viewing the guide on Monday and want to see whats on Friday figue its 4 days til Friday type in 4 and hit the right diagional button with the arrow pointing right it will auto take you to Friday. Just figure out the number of days you want to advance up to 7 and its a easy way to browse the guide. In the guide just type in channel number and it takes you there. CHEERS

That's not quite what I mean, but thanks.
I'm saying if I'm watching 805 and I hit "guide" then the guide displays with 805 as the center. I then scroll down to other channels, but if I want to jump back to 805 (in the guide) again, then I no longer can just press the "C" button as I used to. I now have to key in 805 instead (or exit the guide and then re-enter it).
It's not a big deal, but it is a different functionality.

On the plus side, you no longer have to watch on-screen like a hawk waiting for the actual show to re-appear...it's much more relaxed.
On the minus side, if your past FFing skills call for you to hit it just right (or what used to be "just right") then now you're forced to catch the tail end of the commercial break.

Trip in VA 11-18-09, 06:42 PM It's a crime. To have sold 95% of 19.393 Mbps implies they're left with 0.97 Mbps, not even enough for a single decent SD. I hope everyone stops donating to SCETV.

BTW I find the next time I'll probably tune in a SD channel there's a hurricane coming. :D
Also when you FF/Play does this thing find the beginning of programming automatically? Either that or I'm suddenly pretty good at it.

SCETV licensed additional spectrum it had for distance learning (outside of the TV band). Their broadcast television service will be 100% unaffected by the licensing to Clearwire. This deal has no effect on their ATSC services.
Trip in VA 11-19-09, 09:14 AM Then the article was very, VERY poorly written. It and the article it references both say "broadcast spectrum" which would lead one to believe it's the TV licenses.
- Trip
arwalke 11-19-09, 09:22 AM Yes it was, very few people in the state understood what the auction was for and what was going on (oh the joys of the state Budget and Control Board). If you're interested in the technical details, check out:
http://www.scstatehouse.gov/citizensinterestpage/BroadbandTechnology&CommunicationStudyComm/FinalReport2-6-2008.pdf
Either the state and taxpayers got hosed by letting the licenses go for too little, or Clearwire did the state a favor by taking them off its hands. We'll never know since the state didn't make an adequate effort to value the licenses.
Trip in VA 11-19-09, 09:41 AM Yes, thank you very much. That clears up the confusion greatly.

mikepaul 11-19-09, 10:03 AM So when will TWC start rolling out DVRs with 3Ghz+ processors so the software runs better?
And WHY have the list of recorded shows work so BADLY? I was done with one, said delete it right after stopping it, then still found it in the List when I went back. I wasn't offered a delete confirmation step like I get when I List them then select one to delete. Testing should have shaken that out a lot earlier...
Charles Goldman 11-21-09, 11:44 AM I just started using the new Navigator and have LOST a lot of DVR function I had before. Mainly, I no longer have the option of recording a SERIES for many shows (The Daily Show, SNL, Survivor). What am I doing wrong?
Also, looking at the Scheduled Recordings list, there is no way to modify a Series recording (such as switching from first run only, to recording all occurrences of a show). There is also no way to review the settings for a Series recording. Help!
Welcome to the world of N -- TW makes more money and their customers get screwed again. N is the worst thing I have ever seen. We don't have it on our DVR box yet - I can't wait to see how badly it screws that up. A tech guy was here yesterday and said that the DVR boxes he had on the truck are all programmed to N but no one wants them!

Incorrect. You now have more options in series recording. Press the list button on the cotrol. Scroll over to series manager. This will list the series you have chosen to record. Press enter on the series name this will enter you ito the series manager. You can then set the series to record new and repeats or just new. You can select if it can be recorded at all times. This means if time slot changes Navigator follows series like SARA used to. You can also select a specific time slot. This is good for shows like the Daily Show, NFL LIve. Sports Center ect that have non specific guide data to let Navigator know that they are new or not. Time Slot recording avoids numerious copies of these type shows. Otherwise the new first run option works geat. You can also set the shows to record earlier or to run later and the time stamps stick and do not vanish like they did in sara. After you set your recording options accept them but hiting the yellow key on your control. Next key on your series again and then press series priority in th series manager. This lets you set your series to a higher or lower priority in case of a recording conflict. Navigator will record the series with the higher priority. Also if you record cable shows like Stargate Universe or Monk set those shows at a lower priority than network shows. The reason behind that is because these shows have numerious reruns of a new episode. Navigator just like tivo will find the next recording of that episode that does not conflict and record it for you. Also once you have set a show in the series manager and it has been recorded (time slot shows are excetions to this due to lack of proper guide data) Navigator will not record any reruns of that episode without being told to do so for 28 days of the orginial recording. Hopes this info helps. CHEERS
Charles Goldman 11-21-09, 11:44 PM That is helpful, but I am still not sure how to get a show into the Series Manager. Many shows do not give that option in the Guide. Also, some shows let you set a reminder, but do not offer a recording option. Some shows, when set to record a series, show the symbol for that in the guide, some do not. Please expand your helpful response. Thank you.

When you are in the guide and want to record a series press select when you highlight the series in the guide. A series of optins will come up. One option says to record series the other option says to record series with options. I find it better to press record series. This sets it to record and puts it in the series manager. Then when you wish you can go set your recording specs. When you set it to record in guide it is set to new and repeats but in series manager you can set it to new episodes only. Be sure you set the series priority while you are in series manager because the newest addd show gets first priority until you set the priority you want for it. Do not get alarmed if the red record flag does ot show up as soon as the next guide data shows up after a year of Navigator experience I find Navigator always sets it before the next recording date. Navigator can be confuseing at first. Go to the keyboard search and type in answers on demand and it will take you to a channel that will explain a lot about Navigator. A lot of complaints from early Navigator folk are those who do not learn how to use it and get flustered and angry. Once you master it you will find it is a fluid feature rich guide. Hope I have helped a bit. CHEERS

Is anyone using Moxi on TWC Columbia?
mikepaul 12-01-09, 09:27 AM Did anyone else lose scheduled recordings? Stuff that had been working like Big Bang Theory is gone. SNL, NCIS, and The Mentalist survived, but now it's every show instead of just new ones.

IrmoGamecoq 12-01-09, 09:58 AM Yeah, I noticed mine didn't pick up Heroes last night. I had to re-set it to record. I wasn't sure if it was a new ep or not, but the program guide had it flagged as "new."
I also don't like how we've lost the ability to FF at quadruple speed (at least AFAIK). I haven't seen that mentioned yet, but it's annoying when FFing through large chunks of recordings.

You can ff in 15 minute chunks though. from twc
"Just press and hold the FF button for about 2 seconds and it will move ahead in 15-minute increments. The same technique works for rewinding."

Yes I discovered this when I could not record the Carolina-Clemson game.
My external drive on the E-sata port got screwed up too. The new software must be using a new copy protection system. Now all show on that drive won't play and it was disabling my DVR feature until I hooked it to a PC formated it NTFS then hook it back to the DVR and it asked to format the drive again. I lost the show but it gave me the DVR function back.
Aha !!
So I only need to format my external HD in Windows as NTFS, then reconnect it to the DVR and it will reformat it, and then it will work perfectly again ??
TechMan 12-03-09, 01:57 AM It worked for me. You can check your drive storage size before/after the formating to confirm if it's working for you. Just turn off the box press and hold the SELECT key and when the flashing envelope appears in the left of the front display press the DOWN key for the diagnostic screen.
IrmoGamecoq 12-03-09, 09:55 AM Anybody notice that last night's USC-WKU game was blacked out on SportSouth? The commercials came on fine, but everytime they returned to the game, it was a black screen with full audio.
fiteclub 12-03-09, 11:40 PM i had the pos tuning adapter, and it only works(almost) with series 3 tivos. they are free but you must have a tivo.
MS has announced that Windows 7 will support SDV and I know of at least one cablecard manufacturer that intends to support SDV using the SDV tuning adapter.
wdbarnum 12-09-09, 04:29 PM Is anybody else having trouble with TWC sending down old downloads - like the ones that won't let you rewind in a show you are watching? I am ending doing two or three reboots a day - to get it to the right operating system. Also, half of the time the new download does not recognize my eSATA drive - and I will see my recorded space go to zero - then reboot and it comes back - and even sometimes I can play the shows and not go to a black screen.
If nobody else is having these issues - I may take my SA8300 in and swap it - but I really don't want to do that.
Everybody was saying that TWC went to Navagator from SARA to make more money - how is that - is their license fee less?
IrmoGamecoq 12-10-09, 11:38 AM No, but the constant hard-drive "whirring" sounds from my bedroom SA8000HD has me also considering a return. It never was that way prior to the Navigator upgrade.
TW owns N so there are no fees they have to pay for that piece of crap

I have not experienced that with mine.
wdbarnum 12-11-09, 06:51 AM Thanks for your replies - last night was even worse - I could not get the machine to come up with the schedule and even the Select button would not work - even when I hit select on the 8300 itself! Plus of course no recording and no playback of any previously recorded show.
I'll take it back to TWC today and get a new box.
Also, thanks for the ownership of Navigator reply - now it makes a lot more sense as to why we got this piece of c**p.
mikepaul 12-14-09, 08:30 AM The last several months with SARA were also bad here. If the existing settings had been kept the changeover would have been acceptable, but if they KEEP losing my recordings the score will keep dropping...
jrolin1 12-14-09, 10:29 AM SARA was terrible. No keyword search and so on. The only problem I have had with Navigator was some of my recordings had to be set up again. I think that is more due to the program guide changes (names etc.) than Navigator. I do like the extra information displayed about a program now.
mikepaul 12-18-09, 03:22 PM I'm still worried about lost recordings. I have few missing for next week due to holiday reruns, but Navigator doesn't have the fake-date placeholder for the ones not actually going to be recorded that SARA had.
If the missing do show up for the week after that's fine, but now I have to WATCH for them and that's no fun.

Thats the beauty of Navigator. We no longer have the SARA placeholders but a real series manager. Check your series manager when the shows are next new. You should get them and the SM will show they are scheduled. CHEERS

With Sara the place holder was blank if no show was new or were scheduled to be recorded. Check the scheduled recordings list in Navigator to get the same information. Same result just a different way of doing it. CHEERS

Neither did SARA. All you got was a blank place holder that gave you absolutely zero information. For my money the series manager along with scheduled recordings list is much better in manageing shows and takes up less disk space. Everyone can have their on opinion but TIVO, Direct tv, Passport Echo, Moxi and Replay tv use the series manager rather than place holders. Not saying it is better but it is the majority way DVR interfaces are going. CHEERS and Merry Christmas:)
mikepaul 12-25-09, 02:57 PM Series Manager, which I finally noticed like it hadn't been there before, is what I needed. Now my mom is rid of Dr. Oz without it popping up on the recoding schedule over and over. Darned if I know how it went without notice...

Glad you found the Series Manager in Navigator. Navigator series manager is very close to the season pass manager TIVO uses. Navigator is much more TIVo like than SARA ever was. When we get Keyword search next year we will then have a wishlist like TIVO. Maybe not as extensive as TIVO.s bu very close to PASSPORT. Time Warner is slowly getting there. CHEERS
Anybody using an external HD that is working OK ??
If so, make and model please ??
Thx !!
wdbarnum 01-01-10, 07:57 AM My external drive - Western Digital "My DVR Expander" - was working perfectly for over a year with SARA - however once the change to Navigator - I started having trouble - my SA8300HD had to be swapped out, and that solved the DVR issues I was having, but still the external hard drive is not recognized by the Navigator software. I contacted WD regarding how to make the unit reformat itself and got no help other than to try installing it again and if that failed to return it as defective.
I have tried at least a dozen times to do a fresh install - having the DVR reboot with the external drive connected and running - nope - no luck on getting the software to see the new drive.
One person that posted to this board said they had reformatted the drive using their PC and then hooked it up and it worked, but my PC does not have an eSATA port and the connector cable from the WD drive is only for an eSATA connector.
So, final result - I am limping along with the Hard Drive that is in the DVR and am not happy either.

I tried what that guy said, reformatting my external HD and it does not work for me. I even tried reformatting it several different ways and nothing works.
I REALLY miss having extra capacity because these HighDef shows chew up a lot of HDisc space.

southpawsc 01-25-10, 03:55 PM Setting up my Windows Media Center to do OTA recording/viewing. WIS/WLTX/WOLO all come in beautifully and signal strength is close to max(5 out of 6, or 6 out 7, whichever); but WACH has a signal strength of 1 and thus isn't viewable at all. From looking at antennaweb.org I'm assuming that all the antennas are in the same location, all are showing same direction from me, and all are the same mileage, between 12.0(wach) and 12.5(wis).
Is there something about the WACH signal that its just a much weaker signal?
I'm not using a great antenna, just $3 from big lots with rabbit ears and a loop in one base, but if it picks up the others fine, shouldn't it pick up WACH also?
I don't want to buy one of the $50 antennas if it want do me any good(ie: wach signal is that weak and better antenna wouldn't help)
kevinivey 01-25-10, 05:36 PM It is weaker by far. I still get it locked in ,but I know of others who have had issues. Most likely you will need a better antenna.
WACH has just about half the power of WLTX (520 versus 1000 kW). WIS and WOLO are VHF so their power levels aren't directly comparable. The frequency (channel 48 for WACH versus 17 for WLTX) can make a difference all by itself, because it affects multipath interference from reflections which can be strong indoors. Have you tried moving the antenna around to various locations and orientations?

have you tried just connecting your cable connection (if you have TWC) into your tuner card and getting the ClearQAM channels? That's what I do in Huntsville now through Comcast, and what I will probably try to do with TWC when I return to Columbia in August.
That way, you wouldn't have to worry about antenna positions or anything :)
mikepaul 01-27-10, 09:09 AM Does anyone know how a 'new' episode is identified?
"White Collar" on 853 was supposed to be new last night, but Navigator didn't have it scheduled even though all I wanted was new episodes. I checked it like three times, and while it said NEW in the description I ended up having to set that episode for manual recording.
Is it something besides the description that Navigator is supposed to use to know what's new?...
Ours recorded as a series like it is supposed to do. That being said -- Navigator is the worst thing TWC has ever done ever period! An example, I use my favorite places all the time for sports programming. It is a real pain to set up and delete channels. SARA was very simple to do, now you have to do each channel one at a time. Whoever designed Navigator must have done it as a prank and TWC bought it.

Just a suggestion but check your series manager under series priority. Since White Collar is a cable show set it at a lower priority than the network shows. If their is a conflict Navigator will auto record a later showing based on the priority list in series manager. Always set cable shows at a lower priority than network shows as they usually have mulitble showings where etwork shows have only one. Check series manager is White Collar is to high in the priority list change it to a lower one and that shoud solve the problem. CHEERS

I'm a TWC susbcriber and have an HD DVR in our main viewing room, a normal HD box in our living room and no box at all (coming straight out of the wall into the tv) in the bedroom. I can't seem to locate ABC HD in the bedroom with this setup. I know they're not the same channel numbers without a box, meaning NBC HD is 805 with the box, but is 10.1 coming straight out of the wall, CBS is 810 vs 19.1, etc. In our previous house I was able to locate ABC HD on channel 89.4, but it doesn't show up at the new house. My inlaws are just a few miles away and they pick up ABC HD at 25.0 also using TWC w/out a cable box. It seems strange to me that they pick it up on a different channel than we used to at our old house, and that we can't find it at all at the new house.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
So you did a scan? QAM channels can change since cable companies provide them while kicking and screaming.

So you did a scan? QAM channels can change since cable companies provide them while kicking and screaming.
Yes, I let the internal tuner do an auto scan, which is the same process I used in our old house. The other locals are on the same channels they were previously and have been there for some time. It would be a weird coincidence that they changed the location of ABCHD at the same time we moved from one house to another.
The reason I'm going this route is that we're already paying for 2 boxes a month and figured we wouldn't be watching a ton of TV in the bedroom. But it's frustrating not being able to locate ABCHD when we have no problem getting the others.
Anyone else in Columbia going this same route to get their HD locals? What channels do the HD locals show up on?

I had that a couple days ago and then this morning when I got up, all I got when I turned the TV and cable box on was a blank white screen. And the HDMI source was pretty much gone from the selectable list on the TV.
I had to unplug and reboot the box and after it finally rebooted (which took forever as usual) I then had to unplug and replug the HDMI cable on the cable box end in order to get the HDMI source to show up on the TV list again.
Very irritating...I'm seriously considering switching from TWC to something else...either satellite or U-verse.

bdfox18doe 02-05-10, 08:25 AM Yep. And I have the details as to why but I won't share them here. Happy now?
Yes. And the details are with ubiquitous HD they are irrelevant. :)
oceangrace24 02-05-10, 10:37 AM U-verse is available in Columbia. I have a couple of friends that currently have U-verse. Unfortunately it is only available in a couple of Neighborhoods.
ATT has to install a VRAD in the neighborhoods where they offer U-Verse. Each VRAD can supplies access to 300 or so homes via fiber.
There are VRADs in Quail Hollow in West Columbia, Coldstream, Murraywood and on Kennerly Road in Irmo. There may be a couple more, but that is about it. So if you are not in one of those neighborhoods, you are SOL at this time.
wdbarnum 02-05-10, 10:50 AM We are in NE and U-Verse is available here. I was so frustrated with Navigator I actually signed up for the U-Verse service based upon the info from the sales rep - then as I did some internet research - things I had been told were called into question - so I called and got their tech support folks - long story short the rep did not know what she was talking about when it came to how the service works when it was sold to me - the way it actually works is not what I wanted - nor ATT digging in all my walls to run new wire. So, I am still stuck with TWC and Navigator. And yes, I have been getting lots of Service not available and also - I'll have the TV on for a while and then try to back up and it will tell me that is not available either. Stupid system - and so so slow.
I would like to talk to someone who is using a Tivo HD with cable cards on Time Warner Cable. I just wanted to have a two way conversation about how and if it works. I know they do switching and there is an adapter available. I am thinking of upgrading my Series 2 to an HD and dumping my converter box. Does it work? What are the downsides? I don't really care about on demand stuff.
If someone doesn't mind talking to me, please send me a private message either with your phone number, or just let me know you're willing to talk and I'll PM you my phone number.
Thanks,
Roy

Here's an idea: tie SDV into the billing system and issue a 25 cent rebate each time a channel isn't working when it gets tuned in. Consider the system working when no credits are issued, and improve it every day until then...

mikepaul 03-29-10, 03:59 PM I guess it's a system-wide issue, since yesterday I unplugged the DVR in hopes the sound gremlins would go away. I didn't notice the dropouts after that, but I didn't watch it a lot...

It takes an unplug and reboot to get it back. ...Just called TWC and they want my PIN number before they can help; heck, I have no idea what the number is. So, no help! Very frustating indeed!!!!
Well no clues given as to your equipment, connections, DVR settings, had your signal level checked, etc. so no help here either!
Last night I picked up WOLO for the first time. I'm 120 miles north of the tower. I never had a chance of getting it while WGHP was still broadcasting on ch8, but the weather cooperated enough for me to tune it in.
WOLO has a great signal! It's the only reliable Columbia signal down here in Barnwell.
bdfox18doe 03-31-10, 07:35 PM WOLO has a great signal! It's the only reliable Columbia signal down here in Barnwell.
And, as soon as we get FCC approval, we at WOLO-DT will be increasing our ERP (transmitted power) by about 50%.
The FCC data database lists WOLO's LIC and APP as both 43.7 kW. Typo?
mjb2002 04-02-10, 05:02 AM WLTX is the main reliable station from Columbia here in Williston, although I get WRLK and WACH from time to time as well.
I have never seen WRJA due to interference from WTGS in Savannah.
I have seen WZRB and WKTC exactly once. Both of those channels have interference from multiple channels. WZRB has interference from WJZY in Rock Hill and WCSC in Charleston. WKTC has interference from WMYT in Belmont, N.C. and WSAV in Savannah, respectively.
Looks like WIS is going to add This TV as a subchannel soon. Weather Plus on 10.2 is running a crawl advising OTA viewers to re-scan their channels on Monday becuase WP is moving to 10.3. Also, thistv.com lists 10.2 as their channel for Columbia.
kevinivey 04-02-10, 10:45 AM Not surprised, they can barely broadcast HD for an entire program. Worst of the bunch.
Yes, WIS used to be the "Tiffany" station in the entire state dominated by their (then) tall tower and strong VHF analog signal. Now their tower is the shortest one in the Columbia market (except for UPN affiliate WZRB) and reception down here is sporadic at best.
Growing up in the days when WOLO was a distant third in the ratings and no ability to receive their signal this far south, it really pleases me that they now have the Columbia market's best signal as well as good local newscasts.
And, as soon as we get FCC approval, we at WOLO-DT will be increasing our ERP (transmitted power) by about 50%.
Thanks Bob, that's great to hear for those of us in the deep fringe areas!
Player2 04-02-10, 07:04 PM Does anyone here use a Tivo box with TWC? If so what are your impressoins of it?
I think the biggest draw back is having to use a cable card and missing out on the on-demand stuff.
stevohdftmill 04-03-10, 09:37 AM And, as soon as we get FCC approval, we at WOLO-DT will be increasing our ERP (transmitted power) by about 50%.
I look forward to watching WOLO go from 80% to 100% in Ft. Mill. ;)
mjb2002 04-03-10, 09:54 AM What is it with This TV and Raycom owned stations???
Where I am, WFXG has this tv on its 54.2. Raycom owns WFXG. From what I know, WTOC in Savannah has This TV as one of its digital subchannels -- and you guessed it, WTOC is owned by Raycom.
Now, WIS (another Raycom-owned station) will get This TV. I wonder if there are any stations in this region NOT owned by Raycom that has This TV.
mjb2002 04-03-10, 09:55 AM Now, one wonders if Charleston will get a weak signal instead of no signal from WOLO with this increase.
Trip in VA 04-03-10, 12:07 PM This TV affils not owned by Raycom in NC/SC/GA:

Hey, when did WACH go widescreen with their 10pm news? I stumbled on it just now while channel surfing. Not HD, but it looks better than what they had before.
This TV started up on schedule this morning. 10.2 cut over from Weather Plus to This TV at 10:00. About 10-15 minutes later the new subchannel 10.3 appeared with Weather Plus.
WIS has the following announcement on their Web site:
http://www.wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S=12250940
The online program guide seems to be screwed up, hopefully only temporarily. The first movie (which is playing as I write this) is "Disaster on the Coastliner" which started at 10:00 by the looks of it. When I went to http://columbia.thistv.com as directed by the WIS announcement, on the home page I saw "On Now: 9:00am - 11:00am Disaster on the Coastliner". But under the "Schedule" tab it listed this movie as starting as 12:30pm.
However, the OTA PSIP guide data is in place and correct (as of right now), so if you have a converter box or tuner that displays a PSIP guide, you're in luck. (Up in Spartanburg, WSPA has had Retro TV on 7.2 for several months but still doesn't have PSIP guide data in place.)
bdfox18doe 04-05-10, 08:10 PM Hey, when did WACH go widescreen with their 10pm news?
IIRC, about a week AFTER WOLO went widescreen (from downtown) with HD weather and now HD field packages.
D-rock0030 04-12-10, 05:00 PM We are in NE and U-Verse is available here.
I'm not sure who told you they'd have to run new lines in your home but thats wrong. I have U-verse and they ran it in the home on the same coax cables as TWC was on. They did put a new box on the outside and just rerouted the coax from the TWC box to the AT&T box, that was it.
U-verse blows away TWC. The Cisco DVR's they use absolutely kill the crap TWC uses. They are so small and quiet and there is zero lag from when you push a button to when it actually responds to it. Plus you can record 2HD's and 2SD's at the same time, pretty soon itll be 3HD's and 1 SD. I never realized how terrible the TWC DVR was until using this one (I've never had a Tivo). Also with U-verse you get the east/west coast feeds of USA, TNT, TBS, etc. Although only the east coast feed is in HD here.
IIRC, about a week AFTER WOLO went widescreen (from downtown) with HD weather and now HD field packages.
I guess I just didn't notice it when WACH switched to widescreen because I so seldom used to tune to them for news. Very soft and with muddy colors, yuck. They look a lot better now.
I knew WOLO was using HD for weather, but didn't notice the HD field cams until a week or two ago when I tuned in during a segment from the
Statehouse and thought, "wow, that looks good!" I suppose now it's a matter of waiting for the studio equipment to reach the end of its life cycle before upgrading it.
mjb2002 04-13-10, 11:20 PM I saw WACH's morning news before and I saw it in widescreen (4:3 Pan & Scan). I always use the 4:3 PS for viewing. I can tell if something is in HD or in SD by using that view.
I can feel something unexpected happening this fall at my locale when WOLO revamps its equipment and gets the power increase. I say that it will be unexpected because of the kind of antenna I am currently using.

I'm hesitant to consider U-Verse unless there's like zero impact on TV viewing when I want to do something Internet-intensive like stream a video. How does that work for you?
When the AT&T rep dropped by last year to tout the first install in my neighborhood, 16
Mbps downloads were mentioned as an upgrade option but I'd hate to pay whatever the extra cost is then find out that the TV picture quality starts to degrade the more you do other things through the one connection...
Another AT&T rep dropped by yesterday. Apparently the No Soliciting signs need explaiining. Anyway, the downloads are up to 24Mbps per her, and the wires were buried like 5 years ago that support U-Verse so all they need to do is run a fiber-and-copper-entwined (her description) cable to the house. I'm not in a position to jump on the limited-time before-the-regular-public deal she described but it's interesting that they are walking around again to push it...
neverthesheep 04-23-10, 08:44 AM are any of you guys using a tivo box in columbia?
i am thinking about getting one for my bedroom (currently there is only basic cable in there and no hd) so i could get the obvious features +netflix.
i just got off the phone with TWC and they told me that a cable card and tuner adapter is required for digital cable, and i told the lady i dont have digital cable for the tv i want to hook the tivo up to. She said i did have it because it is showing on my account and i told her that i have it in my living room b/c thats where the time warner cable box and is and also because its a hdtv. i told her that i have hd channels. In the bedroom i only get to like channel 70 or something.
she put me on hold and then came back and told me that i would still need a tuner adapter and a cable card to receive analog channels and guide data.
does anyone who has the same setup have any information to share with me?
ncxcstud 04-24-10, 10:46 PM If the channels you receive in your bedroom are digital, and the TIVO has a digital tuner/receiver you'll get the guide data regardless and won't need to worry about TWC.
I think that's right, but I could be wrong.
Also, if the Tivo's have a digital tuner (QAM or something) than you'll get (or should get) cleared QAM channels to your bedroom and those more than likely will have guide data attached to them.
neverthesheep 04-25-10, 10:40 PM another question what is this crap about a tuner costing 15 bucks a month from time warner plus a cable card just to get tivo to work for basic cable?
mikepaul 06-10-10, 12:03 PM Waaaay too long with no posts.
G4-HD would be nice. Anyone know if it's coming to TWC soon, or can't come because they need to work on capacity?...
Oooooh, this got an Old Thread Warning. I hope I'm not the last...
kevinivey 06-10-10, 09:55 PM Not sure what G4 HD has to do with local HD, but I get the channel on my box.;)
mikepaul 06-11-10, 12:12 PM "Local HDTV Info" always seemed to me to be about HDTV in my area, not just stuff produced in downtown Columbia.
So where's the HD version of G4 that you get? G4 is on 311 but 1311 is not G4-HD...
Google says it's on Cablevision and U-Verse. Also satellite right next to the Watching-Paint-Dry channel.
mikepaul 06-11-10, 04:03 PM Ah. Left off TWC on my original post. Sorry for any confusion...
mjb2002 06-24-10, 09:00 PM On June 4, I got WOLO to come in -- with an old Magnavox indoor antenna that we had since circa 2003.
This past Sunday morning, WIS magically appeared on my Sansonic with the same antenna.
bdfox18doe 06-25-10, 07:19 AM On June 4, I got WOLO to come in -
Well, since you don't list where you are.....that tells us nothing..:)
Thanks again to WOLO for providing such a quality reliable signal to the Barnwell area - the ONLY Columbia signal to do so. It amazes me that WIS which is essentially on the same frequency (Ch. 10 vs. Ch 8 for WOLO - both high band VHF) is the least reliable of the Columbia signals. How times have changed!
mjb2002 07-01-10, 04:18 PM Well, since you don't list where you are.....that tells us nothing..:)
I am in Williston -- which is in northwestern Barnwell County.
mjb2002 07-10-10, 11:38 PM The high VHF wars is on now.
WIS has now applied for a CP at 57,000 watts, several months after WOLO got an increase in power.
Trip in VA 07-11-10, 01:08 AM Um, WIS has had a permit for that power level since March of 2009. In fact, I don't think they ever operated at any power level but 57 kW.
- Trip
WIS has more ERP than WOLO (57 kW versus 43.7 kW), but WOLO's antenna is higher (613 m versus 561 m above sea level). The net result (service area) is almost identical for the two stations:
FCC service area map for WIS (http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=DT1298130.html)
FCC service area map for WOLO (http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=DT1352441.html)
Put those two maps on separate tabs in your browser and click between them to see how similar they are!
mjb2002 07-14-10, 03:52 AM I use Google Earth. And I got a good comparison of the two stations on the most recent transmitter download that I put up (from June 1 on TV Fool).
WOLO has a bit more cyan in Elko, Blackville, Denmark and Bamberg than WIS does. Another common denominator is that each of these four cities have clear line of sight to WOLO if the antenna is 22 feet above ground level (the default height on the AntennaWeb page), and not WIS.
tylerSC 07-14-10, 01:05 PM Do WIS-10 and WOLO-25 still have future power increases planned or requested?

WOLO's taller tower must be what makes all the difference in the world for our reception in Barnwell. WIS is mostly unwatchable except when weather conditions allow, while WOLO's signal is there 24/7 with no dropouts. I have a VHF Yagi cut for Ch. 8-10 (both WOLO and WIS) aimed at the Elgin towers. A WIS engineer told me they have been at full power since the digital transition and one reason we might be having difficulties is that (Back in Feb. '09) the digital antenna was side mounted on the north side of the tower to try and reach Charlotte and that could result in signal loss in our direction. All I know is I find it interesting that the two stations broadcast on similar frequencies with supposedly the same coverage area but WIS is not a reliable signal here.
Go to My Services
Go to Remote DVR Manager
Schedule a recording
Start PIP
At the scheduled time watch your DVR record light come on and your PIP channel change to the recording channel
Very Cool! :cool::cool::cool:
fiteclub 08-07-10, 08:16 PM I get WOLO DT over Time Warner Cable here in Columbia. For at least the last several weeks the audio has been in Dolby Digital 1/0; i.e. mono. Is anyone else seeing this? What are OTA viewers getting? Maybe its a TW issue.
Thanks for any feedback
Do any of you folks still have any ESPN-HD recordings of the CWS games involving USC ???
I guess that is a "No" ... :D
Hey everyone,
I'm new to antenna tv. I lost my cable recently and can't afford it anymore, so I bought a $10 RCA antenna from best buy, put it in the window, connected it to the converter box, which is connected to the analog TV, and boom--I have a great signal on:
WIS and their subchannels
This Columbia
ETV
PBS
CBS
Fox
But no ABC.
The antenna registers that there is something coming from the tower, I think, because it stops on 25.1 and 25.3, but the screen is black.
Any tips on how to get this channel?
Thanks
ETA: I'm in downtown columbia, near USC.
bdfox18doe 09-06-10, 03:00 PM WOLO (ABC) broadcasts on VHF-8...(and WIS on VHF-10)..most of those cheap antennas have poor performance at VHF..so you may need a better antenna..or move the one you have around to try different locations as possible. And dependent on your location downtown, you may get some signal blockage by buildings. But in general you should not have any issues getting ABC Columbia.

Not sure it's sad to see so little activity. It used to be a lot about the hideous job TWC was doing back in the day. I was a critic but must admit they have gotten it better.
IrmoGamecoq 10-12-10, 08:41 AM Since this got bumped back up it reminds me...
I had a 19" HDTV out at the game this past saturday. I tuned it to the Digital Broadcast of Channel 10 showing the UT-UGA game. It was locked on and looking beautiful, then I stepped away for a while and when I came back I couldn't get the channel anymore. I tried reaquiring the signal several times...moving the antenna around, etc. Very strange that I couldn't pick up 10-1 in basically downtown Columbia. We all joked that the CBS stage that was nearby had decided to block our signal but I can't think of anything else that would've caused it. Anybody got any ideas?
bdfox18doe 10-12-10, 09:53 AM Most likely interference from a wireless mic on or near WIS VHF frequency.
IrmoGamecoq 10-13-10, 02:10 PM Thanks, I guess our paranoia wasn't that far off-base.
I also suspect I just need to get a bigger antenna. Anybody recommend any good ones that are reasonably portable?
Does anyone here have the new TWC HD 3D channel ?
LexHiDef 10-19-10, 09:14 PM Does anyone else have issues with ESPN and several other HD channels being very "pixelated" looking these days, especially during movement? Seems like this has happened in the past couple of weeks at my house.
Player2 10-21-10, 11:32 AM What is up with the USC-Vandy game not being on the HD FSN Channel?
They need to fix that. Watching football in non-HD now is awful.
As for the above poster, I have not noticed some pixelation and what appears to be lower quality in some ESPN games. However, to me it seems to be the lesser important games. I wondered if it had to do with the quality of camera.
IrmoGamecoq 10-25-10, 01:16 PM What is up with the USC-Vandy game not being on the HD FSN Channel?

YES! i sure do, i thought i was the only one who noticed this. do you guys also have time warner? i am thinking this noise is coming in from time warner compressing the crap out the video signal to cram more channels into the same bandwidth.

ESPN has never been one of the best looking HD channels, but I wouldn't say it's been overly pixelated, or really looked any different than ever. I'm watching on a 120" HD Projector.
Anyone signed up for ESPN3?

I have Time Warner. I agree with the other poster it's never been fantastic like TBSHD but I compared Saturday nite....a couple of the football games on stations like ABC and even ESPN 2. ESPN was noticably worse.

Mark Paquette 11-02-10, 02:39 PM I'd like to hear from some TWC subscribers in the Columbia area. How has service been lately? Any issues with channels disappearing for days, crappy service etc? How is the TWC HD-DVR, is it reliable?
I'm a current Directv subscriber considering a switch to TWC.

My Brother had TWC & said the Locals [WLTX,WOLO, WIS & etc] looked blurry & nasty. He said what they call hd is compressed. He said he the antenna is soooo much better. But what he likes even better is the extra channel sub that you get off the antenna. Also he likes getting Augusta Channels as an extra.

Huh, I missed that. It happens I hadn't looked at WIS news since election night. I finally took a look this morning. It definitely does look good. Even the one field clip I saw looked like it was HD.
Does TWC have HD 3D Channels yet???

neverthesheep 11-20-10, 07:25 PM for all those who are wondering what is going on with the terrible pq on hd digital channels.....
this past wednesday time warner came out to my apartments and replaced all wiring. The tech told me that the wiring hasnt been replaced in over 14 years. I asked him if this was normal, and he told me he would be willing to bet that the majority of columbia has not been updated in over a decade. He also said that all a customer has to do is call and ask when the last time the wiring was replaced and if its been a few years to request to have them replace it because of the terrible pq.
another thing he told me was not to worry about time warner saying no. they wouldnt do that unless the wiring is pretty recent. Just tell them that you are willing to go else where if this is best pq you are going to get with them (he said thats what his neighbor did)
but anyway, back on point. After wednesday my pq looks great, i mean crystal clear. Another thing i have noticed is that my internet speed has also gone up. Before i was looking at 4.2-4.8 mbps. After wednesday i am between 6.2-6.7
hope that helps you guys. Very satisfied after the replaced wiring
Does Fox only broadcast its football games in Dolby 2.0? That's what my receiver reads. Isn't that unusual? Don't most stations broadcast 5.1?

Player2, yes, they were definitely having problems Saturday evening. I'm in the Lexington area. I tried calling into customer service to report the issue, but the estimated hold time was 20-25 minutes so I opted for the on-line chat where I got a response almost immediately. (Internet seemed to be working fine)
The recording that plays before you are put on hold said that WLTX was experiencing issues, but that it was on WLTX's end and their engineers were working to correct the problem. I'm not sure if WLTX was having specific problems earlier, but the issue was on all channels when I called in around 8, I believe. The problems cleared up shortly after that.
Hello. I'm in the Irmo area. U-Verse guy came by and has offered a very good deal as compared to TWC. I'm thinking about switching, but wonder if the U-V HD is any better than TWC's? Also, Internet speeds vs. Road Runner? I know this is a vague question, but thoughts or experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am in the Irmo area as well and have Uverse U200 package plus Internet next to highest dwn load one.
I am very happy with the Internet. It faster than TWC and have had no problems.
Tv area is great except for high speed tv shows (mostly sports where the High Def may show some blockiness when, football players are running fast in a closeup. For the rest it is just about as good as time Warner but I have a 73 in screen and notice imperfections a little faster than on my 32 in set.
The boxes and Dvr are much better thaan TWC. They are easier to use and allow for tv recording to be set and changed easily even using the internet to do it.
I have had it for about 6 months and would not give it up.

We switched to U-Verse about 2.5 years ago from TWC. To me the video HD is great (46 inch 120hz) TV. Sometimes we have freezing (not a lot, but some). The issue I have is with the price. It is higher than TWC and the price just went up by 3.00 or so. Funny thing is they lost about 5 channels a month or so ago due to contract issues for about 5 days. They reported they were fighting us to keep our prices low. After 5 days they came back on, but now we get a 3.00 increase in cost. Maybe it would have been higher...
Another note.. Not sure if you care or not.. But you don't get local on 8's from the weather channel on U-Verse. They have a app they use can use to get local radar and stuff, but I would prefer to have local on the 8's.
As with all things after the first year or so the price goes up and from what I can tell they are little higher apples to apples with TWC. But the internet speed is great. I have 24 Mbps down and 3 up compared to RR top speed of 10 down with turbo boost for 55.00 a month We don't use their phone service since they charge 35.00 plus tax a month. We use vonage 31.xx after tax.
If you like sports AT&T has access to espn3.com, not sure about TWC. I know in the past they did not.
If you don't mind me asking what was the deal he offered?
I decided to remain with TWC since we are under contract. However, AT&T guy said they would take care of the contract penalty for canceling "early" by giving us a VISA card worth ??? that could be used as cash. I say ??? because we never got to the specifics. He was quoting me prices and I didn't write them down but it seems the price was about what I am currently paying with TWC. I didn't pin him down on if this was an introductory price (I'm sure it was) and what the real price would be after the introduction price. My two year deal with TWC is for one DVR box, 2 regular boxes, HD and Digital. No premium channels such as HBO. Internet is through Mindspring/Earthlink running as if it is Road Runner and billed through TWC. The package for everything is about $144 a month including taxes.
IrmoGamecoq 12-17-10, 08:22 AM Hi,
We switched to U-Verse about 2.5 years ago from TWC.
Thanks for chiming in and sharing your info. It's nice to hear some facts about the service amid all the speculation that I usually hear.
I'm pretty disgusted with TWC in a number of ways (Ch 1622 - AMCHD - will not tune in EVER - technician did not know what to do about it), but I'm hesitant to leave them in at least an equal number of reason.
stevohdftmill 12-17-10, 09:22 PM Bob, Gotta say the updated WOLO weather station looks good!
neverthesheep 12-24-10, 10:29 AM nothing to important to contribute just wanted to throw this in there again....
will the CW ever go hd for us or what....im beginning to think not
We have TWC in the Lexington area and I noticed yesterday that some of the channels had suddenly either jumped locations or were on the same channel number, but were listing with different call letters.
Specifically I'm talking about the HD and multicast channels of the local stations that are available in clear QAM just using a digital tuner on the TV (no cable box).
Here's what I've found:
WIS:
Was 10-1 as WIS-HD
Is now 10-1 at WIS_HD
10-2 is now WIS THI. Used to be something slightly different that I don't remember.
10-3 is now WIS Wea. Same here. Was something else (WIS-WX maybe)
WACH:
Was 57-1 as WACH-HD
Now 57-1 as WACH_HD
Now the ones that have moved:
WOLO:
Was 25-0 (which admittedly always presented problems on my TV when trying to direct tune).
Now the HD shows up on 89-1 with no call letters or anything listed in the info.
Weather was on 25-3 and is now 89-2 also with no call letters or anything.
WLTX:
Was 19-1. Now 89-4 with no call letters or info.
Radar was 19-2. Now 89-5 with no call letters or info.
Weather was 19-3. Now 89-6 with no call letters or info.
WRLK:
I don't remember where the HD was, but it was something bizarre before. 89-4 or something like that. Now it's moved to the more logical place of 35-1 as "WRLK_HD" The multicast channels are now 99-52 and 99-53.
I've also noticed that none of the channels seem to be getting PSIP anymore. My TV says "No Title" and "No Detailed Information" on all digital channels now where it used to get information at least on the HD majors.
I've also noticed that TWC appears to be sending some signal that is showing up on 4-1, 36-1, and I believe 5-1 with some out of market call letters in the info, but no picture.
Anyone else notice the same thing or has my TV gone haywire? I only have the one digital tuner in the house so I can't compare.

It is NOT "YOUR" Tv.
It's the QAM Shuffle. They do it once in a while because they can.
stevohdftmill 01-22-11, 09:26 PM MeTv Coming Soon...
Everyone, MeTv is coming soon to Columbia on WOLO's sub channel 25-4!!! Did a re-scan tonight and they have the coming soon graphic up. If you have an OTA tuner, do ya a quick re-scan.

Interestingly enough when I was at my parents house out in Chapin, the channels had NOT swapped around there so it must be something that only affected the Lexington TWC hub (or at least did not affect the Chapin hub).

TWC tells us they are looking into the issue.
fiteclub 01-26-11, 07:46 PM Anyone seeing (hearing) brief audio dropouts on TWC WOLO HD channel? Watching Jeopardy and it is very annoying. Video is fine.
shahram72 01-27-11, 07:09 PM It's been a long time since I posted in this topic, I have been enjoying TWC, but honestly, it's for my wife and kids, I can do without cable (except internet). I can get most of my content online(legally, through netflix and other sites) I don't watch much regular "TV". I would like to applaud TWC's addition of Russian Television (RT), however. It's nice to have a different point of view that is not corporate MIC controlled. I love it. This is one of the channels that I watch on my TV computer, looks like TWC is paying attention and adding content that people like myself want. Not ready to dump TWC yet, always need the internet, and now they are adding channels I used to have to jump through hoops to get. And I love that the analog signal is still there for the 3 old TV's I have in my house.
But my question is this, and yes I searched, can I use some kind of digital tuner to tune into the unscrambled digital channels on my other TV's (need RT in the bedroom)? My cheap $50 ATSC (SDTV) tuner won't do it. Does TWC use a proprietary digital standard? If I buy a new digital TV, will it get the digital channels WITHOUT a box or cablecard? Bottom line, do I have any other options other than renting another box from TWC, my other TV's are watched too seldom to warrant the extra cost.
I assume this question also applies to a tuner card that I am looking into for one of my spare PC's that has MCE on it. If a tuner card can't tune digital cable, it's useless to me.
You need -
1. A QAM tuner. Look for it included in the specs of a digital TV. Will only get you the local channels and maybe a couple of others TWC chooses to include though.
2. Or a solution like Google TV. Basically this adds an internet connection to your TV and you can watch any video being streamed anywhere without a computer being tied up or even turned on. You might be surprised what you can find - basically any channel you watch on TWC (as you have found with Russian TV). Picture quality runs the gamut from poor to excellent (like ESPN3).
TWC tells us they are looking into the issue.
Looks like things returned back to normal sometime last week. Still no PSIP on any of the channels as far as I have noticed. The other out of market call letters still show up on a few of the channels when doing a scan, but no video or audio on them.
I'm thinking of going back to TWC. Basically, what I want is HD locals/CableCard in a Tivo box. I'm trying to cut expenses way back. My antenna is unreliable when the trees around the house put their leaves back out.
I guess I'm a bit slow, but I don't see how to price this on the TWC web site.
Any of you guys doing this? And if so, how much does it cost?
Thanks,
David

Does anyone know what HD Channels TWC puts through the regular cable for HDTV with QAM?
MeTV has arrived on WOLO's 25-4 subchannel.
TWCs new iPad app. Very cool :D

Down at the bottom of the page, right side, are channel changes --- click on it and it will take you to the page.

I was surprised to see NY1 HD channel added. It seems to be a 24 hour New York news channel. It was added in the middle of the local HD channels not in the HD news section.
AndThenScottSays 09-07-11, 12:07 PM That's very odd... Never seen that carried outside of NYC.
gail2magic 09-07-11, 12:13 PM I agree...odd. In Florence, SC...it is channel 1115 between CBSHD and NBCHD.
It's a TWC owned channel. Hope it leaves bandwidth for NFL Network and Red Zone. ;)

I'm sure the folks in SC are thrilled over getting that one. :D
AndThenScottSays 09-07-11, 01:32 PM I can see the case for national appeal of that channel in certain regions but I'm not really sure Florence is at the top of that list...
I am thrilled. Finally I can keep up with the crime against korean grocery stores in the Bronx!

What a joke. Just get rid of the highlights show.
mikepaul 12-20-11, 06:30 PM Hate to bump, but I was wondering if anyone using TWC in Columbia still has an 8300HD like I do. The programming used to be the same as for the Samsung DVR they gave me a while back, but now the 8300 is different and BAD.
When I push the Favorite button for the Samsung, it moves to the next favorite. The same button on the 8300 now pops up a list of ALL my favorites, highlighting the first one every time. It requires a lot of scrolling to find the current channel then click on the next one to get the same job done as the Samsung. Even just popping up with the current channel selected would make this OK but no deal so far. No amount of rebooting causes a refresh that makes the two DVRs work alike.
I keep the 8300 because the Samsung has no s-video out to allow capturing of any shows I want to save. Moving up to component capture is not an option right now. So did all the 8300's get this 'fix'?...
OK, when I went into the Favorites list to add a new channel, there was a new entry on the menu to control the popup. You can turn it on and off, and the default is apparently on. There is no such menu item on the Samsung so I guess the 8300HD is where the popup is being beta tested. I'd say that if they refuse to center the popup on or near the current channel, it should be pulled...

I know this is an old post but feel the need to post in here, I'm up near Chapin, just cut off TWC last month and we are so happy!
We get all the major network stations, many interesting secondary stations including true local weather channels. But without question, by far, we love the superior HD reception of our attic mounted antenna!!!
There are many sites where you can plug in your address and get the correct compass heading for all the network stations. I am about 30 miles max. - straight line, not road miles, from all network stations and get Beautiful HD picture superior to TWC and better sound too. Being we are at most 30 miles away, we bought a antenna with a stated 65 mile range in Lowes. I think that is the biggest mistake people make, getting to small of an antenna. If you mount in the attic and have multiple TVs (I have 6) go at least double the range stated for the antenna and you should be fine. I would have mail ordered an 80 mile range for my home but didn't want to wait. The 65 mile RCA from Lowes does the job perfectly at my 30 mile distance. I love saving over 100 dollars a month not paying TWC and getting a better picture! We also have Ruko boxes with Hulu Plus for the kids. At 8 dollars a months the kids are happy and don't miss TWC either.
kevinivey 01-09-12, 06:31 PM I've got a big antenna as well, but I still can't get ESPN HD.:D
bdfox18doe 01-09-12, 06:44 PM I've got a big antenna as well, but I still can't get ESPN HD.:D
I have the same problem with FOX News HD, Science, History, and Discovery HD! and WeatherNation beats The Weather Channel any day!
we love the superior HD reception of our attic mounted antenna!!!
Wait until you see Blu-ray! I bet the "true local weather channels" are awesome though.
J/K. It's a good way to go for cheap!
