Somehow I think I'll be going for a G25. That thing doesn't look like a step up from the DFP at all.

Most disappointing thing ever. I wonder what it offers over the DFP. It looks like the exact same thing but uglier. I was expecting something a step up from the G25. Oh well, the G25 is amazing as it is.

Dumb questions:

What does the button in the red dial and the red dial do? And the + and - buttons?

Wow, talk about a let down. I read the title and couldn't wait to open the thread. Now I see what looks VERY much like a DFP, which I already have. If I get a new wheel it will be the G25.

02-20-08, 01:55 PM
Yea, why buy a DFP with more buttons when you could spend a lil extra and get the G25?!?!?!?!?! What a rip, you would think next gen racing would include a clutch and 6 speed atleast.

I think I would rather spend the > $100 more for the G25 but its nice to see a Logitech option for those that do not want to go over $150 for wheel.

Very surprised to not see paddle shifters though...

I think that red button is for the nitrous haha

I too was very excited before opening this thread thinking that they would make a G25t(turismo version), but I guess not for prologue. Maybe when the real GT5 comes out they will. I was going to hold out, but with this out, I guess there not going to update the G25 until next year or so. But hasn't the G25 already been out for a year?

I'm kinda hoping thats true, but I just sold my DFP and my DF so I could buy the G25 when I picked up GT5p, and would hate a year later they come out with a gran turismo version... maybe I'll just get both if another comes out and buy 2 BMW shells with interior so I can have the Ultimate Driving Simulation :p

Seeing that the pedal set that comes with this model is identical to the DFP's, it is way more worth it to buy the G25 set. The G25's pedals have a more realistic resistance than any other system on the market. Not counting custom hydralic setups of course :)

It does have paddle shifters. You just can't see them in this pic.

As for being a let down, if they built everything the G25 had, why would they build it? It's a less expensive option and frankly, the one I'd choose to save $150.

*edit: I was wrong. You're right - no shifters. I read an article that said it did. I'd still get this over the twice as expensive G25 though. Over $300 for one game is absurd.

The big button on the right pulls up a menu you that allows you to adjust brake bias, TCS, damping, etc. during a race. The red knob that surrounds it is a 24-position adjustment for that. I'm not sure about the +/- button, but I'm guessing it does something similar.

The lack of paddle shifting is disappointing, but at least the shifter is sequential, so you won't be fumbling for the correct gear.

The official page is up on the Logitech site, and Ars has a brief hands-on from GDC.

Cygnus, I'm not seeing paddle shifters in the image gallery at Logitech…

Excellent point. Not everybody wants or can afford to spend 230 plus bucks on a G25.

I thought the +/- was for shifting gears, but it's probably something to adjust force feedback or something. I just had a look at the logitech press release and read this: I guess it does have paddle shifters, and a stick shift?

"Logitech’s newest force feedback wheel simulates understeer, oversteer, and traction loss with frightening accuracy. While the full-size gas and brake pedals deliver precise throttle and brake response, racers can use either the sequential stick shift or the wheel-mounted paddles to race through gears. The wheel also features a large 27.9 cm (11-inch) wheel with rubber-overmould rim, providing exceptional comfort and control. "

Who said it's only for one game? And if the G25 is $300 now, I'm kicking myself. I could have gotten it not long after it was released for $250. :p

I dunno. The press release does mention paddle shifters, but the product page (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/playstation_3/devices/4172&cl=us,en) doesn't, and I certainly don't see them in the pics.

Someone go buy one and report back. :p

HeadRusch

Its probably got push-button "paddles" on the back of the wheel that aren't easily seen.

It would be pretty silly to not include paddle shifters now that so many high end (and low end) sports cars are incorporating double clutch shifting and doing away with the stick.

It still USB. I still don't like wireless controllers for something like steering wheels. Every wireless version I've used of a steering has been horrible. Is it really that tough to buy a USB extender if you don't want to sit only 6(guessing) feet from the TV?

so how do you guys use the G25? DO you have a mock car made up so you can use the shifter wheel and pedals? It looks a little difficult to just out on the coffee table.

If you're gonna pony up the cash for that kind of wheel you likely have at least a rudimentary racing cabinet set up.

What kills me are the people on Youtube with a $300 wheel setup on a desk against the wall, as they sit in front of a 15" PC monitor :)

Thats just messed up!

I built this for my wheel for Forza 2 out of some pvc pipe and hard board. About $20 for all the parts and I can pull it right up to the couch. The bottom frame is all glued together with plumbing glue and the pipes coming up are not glued down so I can take it apart into 2 pieces and fit it into closets/under beds. Took about 3 hours to make my measurements and put it all together. It works great for me! The wheel doesn't really come up as high and block the screen as the first picture looks like. I was just trying to get the wheel and the whole TV in one straight on shot.

Now thats ingenuity! I really want a wireless wheel for the ps3 though. Bluetooth of course! I'll pay a extra $$$ for that functionality. The only wires i want are the ones for my audio system. Everything else is wireless !!!:D

Same here, the people that want to save money on the difference need to actually try out the wheels. The build quality of the G25 is like decades ahead of the others, except for the flimsy 6-speed shifter.

Just my opinion on wireless- the G25 has two giant FFB motors in it (not sure about the one in the picture.) Wouldn't that suck the life out of any type of battery very quickly? Or for adequate battery life the battery would be so big and heavy that it would weigh a ton?

hehe, the "wireless" 360 wheel still plugs into the wall. If you don't plug it in I don't think you get force feedback.

Yeah, even if they did a lithium ion battery that you could charged up by the ps3 or something, I know people would complain if they felt they died too soon or if the battery wouldn't charge anymore. Then people would would want a changeable battery and they would complain about the price of them

I still prefer wired for steering wheel and pedals.

My concern is the kids running around the house with the cable lying on the floor. If they trip on it, there goes my USB port on the PS3 :(

Ah, i did not know that. That makes sense. And for the tripping concern it eliminates the connection to the PS3. Hmm, might work well that way i guess...... :)

Why you hating on my design??? Just kidding.

I did like my DFP a lot, but I barely used the shifter since it didn't feel like a shifter.

Once I get my own place again, moved back to my hometown and living with the parents till I find a place, I will be building something. It probably will be overkill and give me my 15 minutes of fame :p
