View Full Version : Harmony One - Like it enough to buy it again?
ovrrdrive 02-20-08, 12:17 PM If you already have one, do you like it enough to buy it again?
I'm probably going to buy one anyway, but I'd like to hear the one word answer from some of you.
Absolutely! The ONLY thing I would wish for would be dedicated color buttons (Red, Green, Blue and Yellow) for the 360, and HD-DVR's.
The button layout is great, far superior to the indistinguishable keys of the 880 IMO.
I've been loving it and would definitely buy it again.
I suggested it to a friend who bought one, and then later picked up a second one for another room!
mx711yam 02-20-08, 12:54 PM Does anybody else's have a delayed reaction? Like I can try to turn the volume up on my denon reciever and it goes VERY slowly and will keep going after I stop hitting the buttons. Like it has a hard time catching up. Is this normal? It does the same thing onmy directtv menus.
RadYOacTve 02-20-08, 12:57 PM I would buy it again. For the price compared to my MX-950, i can get the One to do pretty much the same thing. The URC responds better to my components, no delays in changing channels, strong IR, RF compatibility, but again for the difference in price, there are some things I could live with.
girdnerg 02-20-08, 02:30 PM Yes, I would buy the One again.

See the sticky about slow harmony response at the top of this forum. Sounds like you have a repeat or delay setting issue.

You definitely need to change the Repeats setting. If you look a tthe last page of the Harmony One thread, there i s an explanation right now on how to change it. Edit: here is the post. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13171391#post13171391
I would buy it again and again. In fact, we were planning on moving the Pronto to another room, but will probably get another One instead.
Junkhead 02-20-08, 06:10 PM just got mine today, i knew it wouldnt offer much more than my previous 880 but the ergo feel of it along with the touchscreen is worth it alone , so yes
ovrrdrive 02-20-08, 08:30 PM Yeah I went ahead and bit the bullet and got one today too...
From what I've read it just seems like the perfect solution. Sure feels nice in the hand.
More_HD_Please 02-23-08, 04:20 PM This remote is great. I went from balancing seven remotes while I watch TV and associated components down to one. And its always charged and ready to go :)
leitweight 02-23-08, 04:34 PM Definitely! After going through several Harmonys (659, 880), they finally got the buttons and their positions right. Although I don't usually care for touch screens, they really work for me in the context of the One, considering that it's still mostly real buttons. Programming is great, as Harmonys always have been. It can be as simple or complex as you want, depending on how tricked out you want it to be. And with the support I've found on this forum, I have my One exactly like I want my remote to be! Buy it!
sahlomonic 02-23-08, 06:11 PM I've owned three Harmony remotes over the past year (520, 880, ONE), and I've returned or sold them all because of the same delay issues. I've set input delays to 0ms, and reduced repeating anywhere from 2 to 0, but still very slow response (or sometimes none at all if signal does not repeat enough times) compared to dedicated remotes. I also hated logging in to their servers just to make quick changes. If servers are down or some chance you don't have an internet connection, you're SOL. Other than that, they're great remotes; just not able to be customized to my personal tastes. The ONE felt great in the hands, loved the look, feel, and touch screen. It does help if your HT system utilizes all or nearly all discrete coding though, where as my old Plasma did not (PITA!!). My new Sony 60A3000 is a dream for custom remotes - discrete inputs really make activites and macros a breeze. Ultimately I returned my Harmony One because the battery life lasted 2 days, sometimes the backlight would stay on permanately. I bought an MX-3000 after that, and that suits my customization well.
I did like it enough to buy a second one to use in the bedroom.
I received mine Friday and It is the best remote I ever had!
Primetime316 02-24-08, 11:42 PM Bought mine from Best Buy yesterday and I would buy it again.
Bunga99 02-25-08, 12:16 AM I got mine about 2-3 weeks back at CC when it rang up for 150.00. I am pretty cheap on certain things but I would pay 150 for it again easy :)
I personally do not think the 880 was ever worth 250.00 (more like 150.00) but the Harmony One is a decent deal at 250.00.
vancouver 02-25-08, 12:29 AM With the experience I had from the 1000 I will never buy a harmony product again.
My vote is for avoid Harmony at all cost.

I hated the 550 and almost didn't touch this one. I'm glad I did get this one though. This one is worlds better. The 1000 has been getting mixed reviews at best. The One is getting great reviews all across the board. Don't judge them all by your bad experience with one.
RadYOacTve 02-25-08, 11:24 AM With some of the talk about maybe adding RF, I would probably spend the extra money for a ONE with RF!

$250 for 880???
I paid $99 each for both of mine during an Amazon special.

Different timing I would presume.
As much as I like mine, the touchscreen seems a bit superfluous to me. From what I've seen everything could've been done the same with soft keys instead. It's a bit too easy to touch something you don't mean to with a touchscreen.
Fresh Fish 02-25-08, 05:56 PM Short answer: NO. I had my 890 for two months, and it drove me crazy with those tiny buttons and Forrest Gump logic (stupid is as stupid does). I actually went back to using my Dish remote because it's ergonomically superior, and I programmed it's AUX setting to run other commands with my system. The only part of the 890 that I miss is the Z-Wave controls.

Im with you on this one. Im going to step back and wait for the ONE with RF when this happens im in. I like my gadgets so its going to be hard to wait, but I would rather wait for a superior product than get one with IR only.
I was thinking maybe the 1000, but I have an older touch screen Sony and I went back to using the standard remotes with my equipment because they were easier to hold/handle/use. Just a thought.
RadYOacTve 02-25-08, 08:51 PM I have the ONE now and I have no regrets and would purchase an RF version when and if it ever becomes available.

jimbosmithy 03-26-08, 10:52 AM I'm also having that delay issue that has nothing to do with repeat or time settings. They can all be set to 0 or anything for that matter and there is still almost a second after each button push where it continues to send a signal. During this time any other button pushes are buffered and transmitted after the initial one. If you hit down 5 times it will queue them all up so after about a second each time the device will respond with a down. During this whole time anything else you press only gets queued up.
It basically makes it so only an extremely few buttons are worth using.
For some reason it transmits to two other devices perfectly but when the one I use most often is the one I'm having the most problems with it's a deal breaker.
I am not recommending this device to anybody unless Logitech announces a fix. If anybody is going to buy it, maybe it'll work out but prepare to be able to return the item if it doesn't. It's hit or miss right now.
Fit2Run 03-26-08, 11:24 AM I have one now controlling 3 components and it is working perfectly. I do not have any delays. I will be purchasing another one for my HT which will have around 5-6 components. At that point I will see how well it functions.
unbiased 03-26-08, 02:04 PM Because I have both an 890 Pro and the One, which contrasts the IR signal strength weakness of the One and makes it less reliable (thus less enjoyable) to use than the 890 Pro, I would not buy the One again. However the One is by far the better remote for ergonomic feel and button locations. The 890 and 890 Pro style buttons are a disaster really. But they work reliably and without fail no matter which direction I have the remote pointed to. The One however does not always reach my equipment and turn them on or off nor switch inputs settings, etc.
I would buy the Harmony One with RF if and when they come out with it.
Quickstrike 03-30-08, 03:37 AM I am also waiting for the RF version to be released (I assume it will be at some point).
Bothers me that they didn't release both versions at the same time or just made the One remote RF capable from the beginning.
I could really use a Universal Remote right now Logitech! Please release this RF capable remote ASAP!
