Greetings,
I am working on a fundraiser event for a local charity, and had a couple of questions for the group.

My situation:
We will be showing the Oscars Awards program during this fundraiser. During the commercials, we will switch to a live auction at the stage.
In the past we have just shown standard def video from an analog signal.
This year, we are attempting to keep the signal HD all the way down the line.

The Layout:
The coax feed will be into a digital receiver from Comcast, and come out component into an Extron SGS408 seamless graphics switcher. I will use 5 wire RGBHV cable into a Extron 1x4 RGBHV D/A, then to the projectors.
Projection will be from two DPI Titan HD-500 projectors onto two Dalite 12'x16' (masked to 16'x9') rear screens. Each screen is about 100 meters from the control table.

The Questions:
1. Will this work? Will this layout keep the signal Hi Def all the way down the line?
Thanks in advance.

Any suggestions

it will. However the 100 metre distance is a little too long. make sure you put something like an RGB 203 after the switcher to boost and peak the signal. Although the SGS will not look as good as native HD. So you may wand to look for an alternative.

I am assuming you are using Canare V53C or equivalent, so you will need the voltage and peaking boost the 203 can give you. the better way to do it if you have the tools is using the Extron Twisted pair transmitters and receivers.

BTW, i do know what i am talking about, i was the main training guy at extron for 8 years. And spent ten years at a staging company before that.

Dizzman,
Thanks so much for the info.
My main problem was that I didn't have access to a digital TV box. (My home setup is still standard cable).
After my intial post, I contacted my local cable company marketing dept. They loaned us a box for the event.
I did a mock up of the system in my living room, and all worked quite well.
You're right that the SGS didn't keep the image as well as I would have liked, but since this is more of a social event (with much alcohol), the image isn't super critical.
One correction is that the cable runs are about 100 feet. We use Extron's 24 AWG 100' runs, and DA them inline with an IN3254.

A DA does not boost signal in any major way. this has always been a misconception. it would make no sense to boost signal since we have no idea how long the cable run is going to be. DA's are designed to give you multiple copies of the original.

THey will sometimes give a bit of a current boost.

Glad you got it sorted out.
