I was thinking of buying the 890 because I have an 880 that I really like. Here is my setup:

65" Panny - wall mounted
denon reciever - behind the wall
dvd/bluray player - behind the wall

Will I need to wire one of the emitters for the TV or does the remote use RF/IR combo? I am trying for a really atheistic look here and don't want anything hanging off of the TV. What remote should I be thinking of?

The remote is RF/IR... The 890 remote comes with the RF extender which allows you to hide it back with your receiver and dvd/blu-ray player.

I sold my 880 to get an 890. I did run an emitter to the TV, because I wanted to make sure that my macros would work perfectly even if the remote wasn't pointing directly at the TV (the biggest advantage of RF in my opinion). I have two Tivos and an HD DVR (as well as a DVD player) connected to the TV, so it was important for me to make sure that when I call up an activity, the TV is on the right input. The 890 emitters also come with stick on covers (about 1" square with a "bump out" for the emitter head) that keep the emitter in place. I have the emitter wire taped in place (behind the TV) so that the wire isn't hanging down at all, and the emitter cover is barely noticeable. Aesthetically, having nothing stuck to the TV would be optimal, but the setup I have is the next best thing. The small concession in form is more than made up for by the gain in function.
