I haven't, though, if the room is large to gigantic, the Platinums look like they'd move the air. i don't think you could go wrong with either, though if the room is on the small side, the Aerials probably make more sense.

The Triad Platinums are really not a speaker that I see discussed much. I would like to listen to a pair as the few people I know that have heard them actually speak quite highly of them.

AFAIK, the Triads are meant to be used with a subwoofer, and so (by design) won't go below 80Hz (IIRC).

In other words, these are very, very different speakers. I respect both companies, and I've heard both sound good, but the required setups are going to be rather different.

I'm not sure what to tell you if you can't hear either speaker. Before spending this kind of money, you really, really need to hear the speakers, preferably in your room. Can you drive or even fly somewhere over a weekend to audition speakers?

Good luck,
Drew

Kinda my point, they're just about the world's biggest, most powerful 'bookshelf' speakers. you'd need at least a couple of platinum subs to go with them and a pretty large room for them to make sense. i'd say they're designed for a room that is about 25'x35'x10'.

Ultra, what's your room like?

As stated you are comparing totally different beasts.

My personal preference would be to have the 9s with large amounts of very clean amplification and a pair of SW12s. For me this has a fuller sound without sacrificing any dynamics.

I just listened to the focal utopia micros wow! I have to add them to my short list.

I know that all these speakers are quite different and I know I need to hear them in my room is the best way but i would have to purchase each one of them and and sell off the losers, not possible. the next best thing is to try to hear them in different locations and be wowed. so far the utopias wowed me! but I have not heard the platinums or the aerials.

as far as my room goes its 15w 24 L 7h I plan on using dual triad subs or maybe jl subs

Your room is kinda smallish, no need for something like Triad Platinum. Avoid speakers with dual mids, I'd say, you're going to be too close. Something that has highly matched on-walls or inwalls. I'd suggest Revel Gem2s as a good speaker also. Plenty of flexibility for onwall/nearwall locations. Similar to JMLabs, but even better. More accuracy, dispersion, resolution, soundstaging.
