I know it's not a built in feature on the pro panels, but is there a way to add subtitle (Closed Caption) capability to a Panasonic TH-PWD6UY - for SD viewing? Some blade you could plug in...?

Thanks

No, this is usually a function of the tuning device or STB.

You might try this item:

The new FCC-mandated 2009 ATSC OTA tuners will all have CC too.

Thanks for your responses.
Randy - yes, I believe my DVR has CC, but unless the TV or monitor is capabale of decoding it, it will not display it. In my case, the Panasonic broadcast model does not have a tuner, nor the capability of decoding it, so I was hoping to be able to remedy that. What's confusing to me is that the Subtitles or CC on a DVD displays on the plasma monitor...doesn't that mean that if the DirecTV box has CC...it should be able to project it to the plasma monitor?

Techniwizard - so if I get this TV decoder, does it decode the CC from the DirecTivo box so the TV/Plasma monitor doesn't have to (since it can't) - but displays it on the monitor?

Thanks

I used this box a couple years back for an install only providing an RF channel 3 signal. The Plasma of course has no RF input and a full tuner would be a waste. So I used this box as a demod from RF to video/audio.

The source was cable through an RF distribution amp and although it was not the actual purpose for using this box, the CC did decode and display properly when selected. I never used it with a Sat. receiver but the concept is the same. The box has either RF ch.3 or composite video input and output so it is fairly flexible.

Seems worth the fifty bucks to find out if it solves the problem for you.
