Well, since you already have a Sammy and like it why not just stay with them to make your decision easier? Pannys are solid, but again.... Sammy worked for you once so go with them again.

The PX77U is only 720p, so the 5084 is more what you are looking for. The PX77U has the anti-glare screen, so if glare is an issue then maybe check out the PZ77U which is the 1080p version of the PX77U.

Go with the 50pz700u or the 50pz77u if you have alot of windows/light in daytime. Better yet wait for the 2008 panasonic plasmas with the deeper blacks & 3 hdmi imputs. In any case Im sure you'd be happy with either the panny or the sammy. They are both good sets. I generlly feel panasonic is the best plasma after a pioneer kuro.

Panasonic has a slight edge over the Samsungs.

I'd get the Panasonic TH-50PZ700U, or the Pioneer PDP-5010FD myself.....

i didnt wanna go through the 120 page thread for the samsung and the 170 page thread for the panny!

I'm buying the 50" 700U today :D

I was going to purchase the 58", but since the new lineup is coming out I think I'll "settle" for the 50" now, buy the 58" 800U when it comes out and move the 50" to my room :)

If you like workmanship control issues then get the 5084. EVERY set has a thinner left side border. Some care about this, some don't. Other than that it was a good display but I decided to take it back and get an Elite. Of course I couldn't be happier. I would say go with the Panny from your choices.

I bought my 50" 700U from Costco for $2,300. It also comes with a 90-day no questions asked return policy; so if Costco starts carrying the new Pannys, I know what I'm doin ;)

I remain unimpressed with the panny's... I have a Samsung and it is absolutely perfect and the most beautiful display I've ever seen.

And as far as the 2 pixel misalignment, I can't see it from the couch and I honestly have never gone up to it with a magnifying glass to see if mine is misaligned or not. And I probably never will. Honestly, if you can't see it from even closeup viewing distances, who cares?

Sammy's have a 2 pixel misalignment, panny's blow up. Take your pic.

Word. The Panny's are dim, soft and grainy to me. Compare side-by-side without bias of Consumer Reports and most will pick the Samsung

It is a lot cheaper. At Big River anyway. I like Panasonic better as a brand as they have a great track record of reliability, but the 5084 has fantastic reviews and looks great in every envirnoment I've seen it in. The extra HDMI port is a nice bonus too. You can't go wrong either way. It is just a matter of whether you want to pay more for the brand with a track record of superior reliabilty. I have to say that the only thing that has kept me from buying a 5084 is my fears of burn in/IR. I have read that it is more common on Samsung plasmas.

Good luck and have fun. Won't go wrong with any of them. I came down to the Panny 700u and Sammy 5084 as well. Can't say I could notice a pic quality diff. Consumer Reports love affair with the 700u was a factor for me.
