View Full Version : Best CS:Source replacement
So if my favorite game is still CounterStrike, what is my best option in picking out a PS3 game?
I should add that I'm new to the PS3 and I haven't played console games since Halo2

im still lookin for a game to replace css man and so far its a no go
I've played the COD line of games on PC and it's a cool shooter but it doesn't quite compare... everything just ends up being deathmatch. I like the strategic intent of CS and the penalty of having to sit out the rest of the round if you are foolish enough to run out with guns blazing. Of course, I'm strange that way!

I've never played CS:Source. I gave up on CS just about the time they sold out. It was my all time favorite game at the time, and in many ways I still regard it as my top favorite game of all time.
That being said, I really like COD4 alot. I like it better in some ways and not quite as much in others. I have to say, it is almost equal to what I remember and loved about CS. If it weren't for some of the lag and hit detection issues, it would probably surpass CS for my favorite multiplayer shooter ever.
If you are looking to try something new, and it sounds like you are, I highly suggest you take a look at COD4. And give it a chance with the controller, because you are probably used to the k&m with CS, but you can get very good with the controller too, and have a lot of fun.
Try Rainbow Six Vegas. It should remind you of counterstrike, and it has a Great cover system! There are game modes that are very similar, and yes there are modes where you don't respawn.
Not to mention... Vegas 2 should be out soon ;)

I get like that from time to time. Play Search and destroy in COD4. It really makes you value your life :D

yep, S&D remnds me of CS quite a bit... that's possibly why im hooked
Protopet 02-22-08, 12:30 PM Right now COD4, no question.
Around summer time, Socom should come out. That will probably be the closest. In addition, if you die in that game, you have to wait until the next round to respawn.
Thanks for all the feedback! I was actually ready to get flamed a bit for not wanting to go after COD4... but after you comments I'll give it a try.
I actually went to Best Buy a bit ago to pick up COD4 but they were sold out. So instead I pre-ordered Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and bought NBA2K8 to loosen up my thumbs ;)
If I find COD4 this weekend, I'll pick it up. Thanks again.
ust03mm 02-22-08, 02:51 PM I hated dual analog and loved CS:source. COD4 is the first fps on a console I've thought was as good (if not better) than CS. I know it's hard to believe but with the advancement leveling stuff and the maps and weapons and customization. It really beats CS in all of those areas. You won't be disappointed.
I think alot of ppl like COD4 cause of the sense of pride you get from unlocking stuff... but what alot fail to realize is the playing field is even once you get so high in level because you only play people that high in level as well...
There really is no CS replacement. If you like CS, then play it. if you like COD4... play it... They arent really comparable at all.
CDRACING 02-22-08, 05:00 PM Summer time Socom confrontation and then later in the year the Real SOCOM developed by zipper will be out. When ever my bud at work talks about CSS I'm like dang thats socom lol. I've tried CSS and couldn't get in to it but loved Socom but definitly alot of similarities (hope thats right lol). And also possibly Rainbow six not really for sure on that one maybe drawing straws, but possibly.
DubBucket 02-22-08, 09:04 PM I'm a long time CS player as well, and COD4 has very similar characteristics. The run-and-gun with the jump-and-crouch tactics all still apply. But, tbh, I like the RB6 series a little better.
assasyn 02-22-08, 09:14 PM CSS will come.
csgamer 02-22-08, 10:10 PM The best cs source replacement is cs 1.6

I agree. I have been a long time CS/CSS player and COD4 is the first thing I have found on a console that even comes close. Give it a try.
