Gradthrawn 02-22-08, 01:01 PM How can I enable 480p output on my PS2? I have a slightly older Slim system and can't find anything definitive. For DVD playback? Its in the settings (boot the system w/o a disc inserted). IIRC, hit triangle at the root menu, and it should be somewhere from there (its been way too long to recall from memory). For games, it varies from game to game, and not all games support 480p output. For some games, its a combo of buttons you have to hold when the game first boots, for others its in the game's menu. PikachuManZzZ 02-22-08, 01:27 PM There's a list here (http://www.hdtvarcade.com/hdtvforum/index.php?autocom=custom&page=ps2ab) of the games and what resolutions they support. Unfortunately, they don't have info on how to get to those modes. jmystikcfl 02-23-08, 12:34 PM First off, it has to be hooked up with a component cable (obviously) and set up properly in the dashboard (as Y/Pr/Pb, not RGB.) For movies, start it up with a movie inserted. Hit stop twice (so it goes into Stop mode, not Resume mode) and press select. Then pull up the menu and go into Settings. Under the video, there's a Progressive setting. Turn it on, and that should enable 480p for your movies. For games, some support it, some don't. I think you hold down triangle and X while the game's booting for some. Other's have the option in the game's individual settings menu. My memory's a bit spotty. I set up my PS2 a long time ago and haven't touched those settings since then, but if that doesn't work, post again and I'll have another look when I get home tonight. darklordjames 02-23-08, 04:50 PM "For games, some support it, some don't. Also, you have to hold /\ and X every time you want the game to play in 480p and that setting is saved nowhere. For the games that allow 480p through a menu selection, the setting is also normally not saved so you need to reset it every time you start up. They did this so that if you bring your memory card to a PS2 that is hooked up to a 480i TV, things don't break. :) steven975 02-23-08, 06:00 PM also, for the PS3s that support these games, the upscaling should be turned off. pHaZmaTis 02-24-08, 02:06 AM The only game I played that supported 480p asked while loading what resolution I wanted it to play in. I believe it asked if I wanted to play in "progressive scan". The game was Socom, but many won't support it. Anyhow, it should definately give you directions if it supports it. Shadow of the Colossus did this, for instance. darklordjames 02-24-08, 05:25 PM "Shadow of the Colossus" Best game made for the PS2. :) ebackhus 02-25-08, 03:37 PM First off, it has to be hooked up with a component cable (obviously) and set up properly in the dashboard (as Y/Pr/Pb, not RGB.) Right now I'm using the RGB settings. If I switch to Y/Pr/Pb it does nothing. The screen freezes up. Any ideas? bkchurch 02-25-08, 04:03 PM also, for the PS3s that support these games, the upscaling should be turned off. Disagree, just because you're rendering in a progressive buffer all of sudden doesn't mean the TV is gonna scale better than the PS3. As always try with and without scaling and smoothing and see which you prefer, there are no constants. steven975 02-26-08, 04:03 AM well, with the scaling turned ON, 1080i in GT4 and 480p in any other game is rendered in 4:3 but squished. |
